I had an opportunity to sail laser bahia last Sunday. The weather was 3-4 with quite strong gusts. It was my first time on such a small boat. I was exhausted after 2 hours of sailing first as a sheet-man and after that as a helmsman...Probably next time I will make some tacks...it was both quite challenging for me. If there are frequent wind changes in the area, it was where I was, you have to be very focused on sailing and work hard with tiller and mainsail sheet...Twice we were about to capsize but we manage to avoid it. It just looks very easy but it needs some practice, lot of skills and dedication. Therefore I do respect your efforts . Best regards!
yep, the bahia is a little shaky and you always need to pay attention when the crew moves around. when the wind is not too strong you can sail the bahia alone but it's not too much fun since you won't be able to use the gennaker or trapeze. i have a mast floatation but don't use it because you cannot at the same time fix the fly to show the wind direction. i brought the boat up from complete inversion before but it get's harder and harder when the water is cold and you get tired :-)
lol! :) that was some real capsizing.. completely inverted. i'm thinking of getting a bahia too. I've sailed small laser and hobie cats. is it hard to solo sail a bahia? i would probably opt for the mast floatation to avoid complete inversion upon capsizing.. it'd be quite disasterous esp. if solo-sailing
I constructed something similar to the official Bahia engine bracket and fixed a metal rod of 1 meter length to it. I can send a few photos if you share an email adress.
I respect people who are not afraid of your mistakes !
