Thank you very much! With the natural radio receiver, you can pick up 3 types of sounds from lightning discharges: sferics ( in day, night ); tweeks ( evry night ); whistlers. In the morning, you can hear the dawn electromagnetic chorus - the sounds of birds and frogs from the earth's magnetosphere. ( VLF dawn chorus ). I was never curious about this type of radio in the past, but now I am slowly getting addicted to it. Lots to hear even though as most would say "but you hear nothing" and still you hear everything )). 73, YO6DXE
Kitty!! We could hear the static from kitty kat. I don’t know what is used. I think it was something alike. Also fldigi for fsk . Job well done buddy! 👌🏻
Ohhh I am doing research now into the software part. I tried now the ones that most people into VLF / ELF recommended. I am sure there must be some really nice ones out there to use them as well. 73, YO6DXE
Always watching your channel, great stuff you do! Wondering how ended last give-away I remember was one for receiver with pcb announced in your channel, but seems that I missed draw of winners...
No you didn't. This is the one.. I am just late as I waited to also finish the Charles Kitchin receiver PCB board and I was never happy with the way it performed with the toroid coil. And since I had no time to work more on it I kept delaying the giveaway. But its been too long so I will do it now with the boards I have available and to one more a bit later maybe after new year with some new PCB board designs as I will have time to prepare a few.
Interesting stuff. That's a good improvement on the previous version. You should be able to receive the transmissions from SAQ using that and Spectrum Lab. I have some recordings I made years ago using a similar receiver that have the old soviet Alpha VLF navigation beacons chirping away.
I will finish installing the final version of the MiniWhip antenna this coming week so I will enjoy some VLF using that SAQrx inside where is nice and warm, no need to freeze outside 😅😅. 73
Nice improvement. If I might add a 47uf or higher to pin 7 to gnd and a 100nf from pin 5 to gnd and increase C4 to 1000uf. Afrotech Mods explains in his 386 amp video.
I tried using the LM386 at first as it's meant to be and the results were not so great. So I kept the schematic as it was designed by K8TND as it seems to do a good job so far. 73, YO6DXE ( P.S. I can also use the preamp part only and there is no need for the AF amp if using a sound recorder that has high gain input settings.
Yeeeees THANK YOU so much. That is one I just could not remember when I made the video 😅. Now I can download and test it. Thank you so much one more time. 73, YO6DXE
Congratulation on hearing "Tweeks"! Next you should listen for "Whistlers", perhaps in the early morning. Whistlers can be very strong and are fascinating. The secret is to improve your LPF so that the VLF noise doesn't mask the wanted ELF (eg the Sferics). The better the LPF (eg more ELF), the more obvious is the frequency dispersal (eg chirp) in the Tweeks.
If I listen into the headphones it sounds a lot better than when I put it trough the audio recorder. I think its because from my experience so far RC filters are great when used directly on speakers or headphones, but not so effective when taking the audio into an external recorder. I had the same thing happening when I tried using the RC filter in the audio amp of the Sputnik Regen Receiver. So maybe in the future I will try to play around with some LC filtering instead. I just didn't had such big values on hand at the moment for what I needed and calculated ))). Thanks so much for all the tips. 73, YO6DXE
@prabhakarv4193 Sadly no as only use Whassapp for family. Maybe just the notifications here on TH-cam and I am working on bringing back the newsletter on the dxexplorer.com website so people can subscribe and receive newsletters every time I post new articles on the blog or videos on TH-cam.
I have no exploration experience with static antenna but thankfully i can hear how static antenna performs and i it has likely more signal to noise ratio. Sadly autumn and other seasons with low Sun activity isnt good for VLF.If you have more copper than VLF receiver will take it as much as you have, resistors are noisy bastards
They are noisy indeed hahaha. I want sometime later in the future to play more with LC instead of RC. But for a first experiment I am happy with the results so far. Nature seems magical when you listen to it too... in a different way. Love it. 73, YO6DXE
Bro. Cyril, please try regenerative receivers from B.kainka and Raymond Haigh. I hope you come out with these receivers with necessary permission ofcourse. 73 and bye for now. (I am not a ham operator but a ardent fan of ham radio, with much love from India)
I've never heard of them but I will search. Thanks so much. Do not worry.. I am a ham operator and I do not have the time to turn on the transceiver 😅😅. 73, YO6DXE

Nicely done! N
And now i have another project to start. Thanks!
😅😅 on the 11th the PCB boards arrive and I am excited to build the final version.

A very nice Job you did. Have a great Weekend. 73 de Uncle Günter 💯👍🙋♂
Thank you so much 😁. I love it now with no more AM broadcast band stuff in my ears hehe. 73, YO6DXE
Audacity is a great audio recorder and manipulator. It has many modes of viewing , including spectrograph viewing.

@dxexplorer you are very much welcome!
@kb9mtd-aaronwebb works like a charm. I am testing it now. I just need to find the waveform setting somewhere and is all set 😁😁

There is a good explanation on matching the very high impedance of the whip at:

@@dxexplorer thank you sir
@prabhakarv4193 always a pleasure.. with one condition... we skip the "sir" part 😅😅
