  • DISCLAIMER: Due the issues with ISO (I ripped this straight from PSN), I couldn't get the music working so I'm using Arcade OST as placeholder till I get this figured out for the next playthrough.
    Played on level 8 (Hardest) difficulty.
    Battle Arena Toshinden 2 Plus is Japanese-only release, released back in August 1996. It is pretty much BAT2, except with minor difference and gameplay changes (i.e. memory card support and special move hotkeys being usable when the difficulty level is 4 or more), and some balance tweaks (i.e. Fo's HS Don Pappa and Mondo's desperation attack comes out much faster.). This game is also available on Japanese PSN Store.
    As for Tracy herself, she's rather one tough powerhouse: her far WK has quite range, and her Honey Moon (Right, down, down+right WK/HK) is one of the fastest performing attacks in the game, delivering quite a punch.

    Interesting. I'd never knew that the arcade OST had different remixes of the PS tracks. I own the disc copy of this, and the music restarting after each round always drove me nuts. :D
    Well, I remember that still being the case in Plus. It's been a while... but you're saying it's on Japanese PSN? And backwards compatible? Gonna have to go check it out!

      Yeah, as far as I know, it is still in the Japanese PSN store, although you need a PS3 (maybe Vita works as well, tho I can't check because I don't own it) to access it. That's where I bought the copy. There's also Battle Arena Toshinden 1 and 3 as well.
      The reason why I used Arcade OST was because I couldn't rip the game properly from PSP (it's long story), so the Redbook audio didn't carry over, haha. I did record and upload Kayin playthrough on PS3 once I got a capture card, so I have playthrough with proper music, too.

      @@Raivop Appreciate the info! I do have a PS3 lying around so that's an option, though I'd have to scrub my profile on Vita and switch to Japan to use that which I'm not too keen on.
      Couldn't see it on the web store, but I'll take another look soon. Be nice if there's an easier way to access them than digging out their original machines.Thanks again!

      @@KayinGD You're welcome. And yeah, unfortunately the web store doesn't show PS3, PSP or PS1/PS2 (that run on PS3, PSP and Vita) Classic titles anymore ever since the redesign, and it is annoying as hell, given how slow and crash-happy the PS Store is on PS3.
      Let know if the games are still in the store; I kind of forgot my old JPN PSN account details, let alone the email, so I can't double check myself, haha.

      @@Raivop Ha, I forgot my login details too! Haven't used my JP login since fairly early in the PS4 generation.
      If I get in I'll report back, but I also have to see if the console's working first. The original disc version died on me, but I think the sliding door slim one's still okay.
      Bad news is that if the PS3 and Vita stuff's gone from the web store, doesn't sound likely it'll work with backwards compatibility on PS4 or PS5. Convenience between generations isn't their thing.
      Ah, man. We'll see how it goes!

      @@KayinGD Yeah, it is unfortunate that older PS1/PS2 Classics didn't carry over to PS4/PS5, let alone PS3/PSP titles not showing up in the Web Store, which makes finding specific titles pain in the ass.
      And now that I remember, I solely made the Japanese PSN account just to buy the Battle Arena Toshinden games around 2019; thank god for PlayAsia and its PSN Wallet codes! And sorry to hear about disc version no longer working.

    Is it me or is it that this version of Battle Arena Toshinden 2 looks like it runs faster then the original. Also I thinking about getting into the series which game should I start with I was thinking about getting toshinden 3. Anyway nice playthrough

    • @Raivop
      @Raivop  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason why BAT2 Plus seems to run faster is because it is NTSC/60hz Japan-only release, and my normal BAT2 playthroughs were played on PAL version (which I happen to own), which runs in 50hz, hence 17% slower gameplay speed.
      And yeah, I still would recommend Toshinden 3. In fact, I started from that game; bought it from an auction site in 2016. The game itself is fun, even it might seem rather really clunky at first, but the combo/juggling system makes the game pretty exciting to play.

      Raivop would you say 3 is the best one in the series?

    • @Raivop
      @Raivop  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ssasuke125 Personally, for me it is, because I find juggling and combos pretty exciting, and the OST is still quite a kicker.
      But it really depends who you are asking, as some people really didn't like how Tamsoft pretty much overhauled the combo system and overall feeling of the game instead on improving the BAT2 fighting system. Then again, I also thought BAT4 isn't nearly as bad as people claimed it to be, because there was certainly effort put it in, and the combo/string system was pretty much my favorite in whole series, but the movement is waaaaayyy too clunky.

      @@Raivop Also is it me or is it that the AI level in these games are quite bugged/can use combos faster than a regular player especially in the first two games. I will say despite that the series not aging well I did enjoy toshinden 2 more then the first on a gameplay level but still didn't bother to fix the ai being cheap at times no matter what difficulty settings is set to granted it's not that bad but it is still noticeable and man some of the lightweight are just broken in a sense of how fast they can be a stringing together combos and blocking. I'm just hoping that if I get the third game that the ai isn't as screwed up and maybe they did fix some of the hitbox detection. Overall thanks for helping me get into the series and can't wait to try out number 3 soon.

    • @Raivop
      @Raivop  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ssasuke125 Yeah, the AI, especially in second game, play their own rules at times, which usually means they can cancel attacks in unnatural manner (i.e. Kayin chaining three close HS in a row which is impossible in normal conditions) Otherwise, I don't see much difference with AI on harder difficulties; the biggest change I think is that they are more aggressive, but fortunately they don't still pull out stupid tricks like frame-perfect counters or something.
      And thanks, no problemo.

    Not sure how they continued to go so out of place after BAT2 makes no sense to buff Traceys hitstun and straighten all her on hit movement literally buffed one of the most insane characters for no reason in plus. Anyway nice run mate

      Tracey is always high but when it comes to BAT2 she is top tier right next to Uranus without a doubt. Eiji in BAT2 & 3 is low nigh on bottom tier
