Hey Holly I love your content:) Enjoy your trip😇 But I guess it’s quite important to mention that the 9€ is not only supposed to increase the attractive of tubs etc. Because of the ongoing war (increase of gas prices) and inflation many people are going to suffer financially. Therefor the government brought the idea of a 9€ ticket up. Because the costs of the whole tub system etc. are far more expensive the government covers up more than 2 Billion €. Due to the 9€ traveling is more stressful than ever before. Especially in July and August because of the Holidays.
I know it has its cons but the idea of traveling the entire country on train for such a low price is incredible! I love all the memories you’re creating this summer. You inspire me to travel 💛
No German person would ever speak positively about Deutsche Bahn, its app, tickets or system in general 😅 I think hating Deutsche Bahn is as German as it gets!
Though I really love the 9 euro ticket and pray they keep something similar after the current crisis. Public transportation is mad expensive in Germany...

Hey there. Even though I’m a bit late I just wanted to say that I absolutely loved the video as Heidelberg is the city I recognized the most of so far. Keep it up Holly!
Wow all of Heidelberg is just so picturesque, really beautiful city! Everywhere you go I see gingerbread houses 😅 its like you're wandering through a fairytale!
I remember once my friend and I were supposed to stay at a female hostel room in Paris. When we arrived, it was a mixed dorm room and the area wasn’t the best. Luckily we found another place to stay in. I completely agree with you on having an emergency fund!
i've also had a nightmare situation with A&O but you did the right thing....i wouldn't be happy if they expetected me to share a double bed. Always try to travel early during the day so you get check in first in the afternoon so can deal with these issues whereas if you checked in late at night you would be stuck. You also deserve to ball out on some nice accommodation as the 9 euro deal is saving you a fortune. I did some calculations for my research and if i were to travel around the country for august it would have cost me over a thousand in fares and also the hassle of buying tickets each time at the station queueing up each time whereas with the 9 euro you are set to go with no worries and can rock up get on and off as you please and can use everything.
I‘m German so it’s really interesting to see you exploring my country through your “british“ eyes😅 I have the 9€ ticket too, I‘ll use it to get to the Bodensee this summer, I highly recommend going there! It‘s a beautiful lake between Germany, Austria and Switzerland so you can visit all three countries at once 😬
It is kinda strange to see Heidelberg in your vlog! I was born there and now I'm studying there for almost 10 years. Of course I know that it is such a beautiful city, but seeing it almost every day has made me so custom to it (I hope this makes sense:D). Seeing it in your vlogs makes me appreciate it again! Would have loved to meet you there and say hello:)
Hi Holly, loving the travel content from Germany :D You asked about the trams being called S-Bahn: they are actually called Straßen-Bahn, where as the S-Bahn stands for "Schnell-Bahn" (I think the difference is just that they cover a bit longer distances and can be above and/or below ground, but are not directly on the streets like the trams are) And I have to say your pronounciation of REWE ist very funy to me (no offense at all), when I first realised what you meant it made my day 😅
I loveeee your travel vlogs. I'm finally watching the Thailand ones whilst watching these ones 🥰 I loved Köln although I only stayed for 1 day, had no reception on my phone and the trains were a nightmare 😅 still enjoyed it so much! And I met travelling girls on the train on my way to Luxemburg
Hey Holly! Loving the vlogs, especially as I’m back in Berlin in August and all the travel info is so helpful. Just so you know, REWE is pronounced RAY-VA, bc W is a V sound in German. This is how my German mother in law says it x
Love your videos! Are you planning meetups like in Australia? I'm from Stuttgart, so if you visit I would love a little picnic or something like that hihi
I’ve had a hostel disaster this month when travelling to Budapest w my friend. We booked it for 2 nights, and inly only stayed for one. The vibes were SO sketchy, during the night one of the men in the 8 people room stole money from a girl and a guy, later we were told he’s not even staying there but he has a stolen key or sth, it was honesty SO bizarre the whole situation, the lockers were broken and everything was so dirty, the shower was only behind a wooden door with 0 space to put clothes anywhere, the sheets were so worn and dirty already upon arrival, we ended up going to a different hostel thankfully 🙏 but yeah I was so surprised because the initial hostel was presented so nicely online and the pics looked totally normal but when u walked in the actual building it was soooooo bad
my advise regarding the full trains would actually be to not get the super early ones (6-8am) because those will be full with people commuting to work etc. In my experience, at least mondays to fridays and on the connections I usually get, it's more relaxed from around 10am on until obviously it gets busier again in the afternoon😇
what did you do for a sim card as i know there are charges for certain networks in the UK whilst being in Europe. Also what network did you have if you kept it whilst travelling in Germany?
Hey! I will soon be interailing through Europe. 🚞I've always wondered what you do with food leftovers when you move places? How do you keep the food (such as milk, cooked vegetables that you have left,...) fresh? And where do you keep food when you sleep in a hostel with bunk beds and you don't have your own mini fridge? 🥑Anyway, I love your travel vlogs, they are full of inspiration! Please keep traveling and being you! 🥰
Wish the state took care of or into consideration to also invest in the bus and train companies... While the 9 € ticket is great for us customers, the companies are struggling to provide enough busses and trains, especially now during summer holidays...Bus drivers in vacation spots are insulted, attacked and the busses are damaged by people because they can't take everyone to their destination.
Your Vlog IS indeed very interesting, no doubt 'bout that. But there is one major thing you're definitly missing on your backpack-trip: german food! I do unverstanden that you're vegan, but all time you're just searching for meals you allready know and which are exactly the same around the globe right now 🙄 Probably it's a great Idea for you, just to go into a regular german Restaurant and ask for a meat-free meal. German Cusine has plenty of them, and they're all delicious! But why are there so many "vegan"-Meals in germany so traditional? 🤔 We'll that's easy to answer: due to two lost worldwars! Meat was veeeerry expensive for several decades, so our citizens became very creative with what mother earth provided our ancestors. 😉 So HOT TIP: don't go for the "fancy" and brandnew vegan-dishes/-restaurants any more. Think outside your own Box and try something regional, I promisse you that you'll be delighted! Think it the other way round: this rather "new" global vegan-hype produced nothing else than a global marketing oppurtunity, and everybody is just copying what's popular elsewhere. In fact: it's the same Story, why McDonalds became such a huge success in Europe an all over the World! All wanted the same food, just because it was kinda "hip" and "fancy". 😉 What you're doing right now reminds me a bit on the song-refrain "allways take the weather with you", only you're stuck on the food you allready know 😉 So: be brave and try some regional food 👍🏻
Love 🥰 this travel vlog Holly. How is the temperatures there? because there's a heatwave throughout Europe. Hopefully it's not too bad. Keep safe & well. Love 💕 Holly.
Omg on which days were you in Frankfurt? I am also using the 9 euro ticket right now to travel for a week with my mom and we were in Frankfurt this past weekend! We are now in Kassel and go to Hannover this weekend and then back to Amsterdam:)
S-Bahn is short for Schnellbahn and U-Bahn is short for Untergrundbahn. Most times the U-Bahn has more stops whereas the S-Bahn has less stops but travels out of the city ring
Loving your vlogs!! I have just got back from Hannover (doing Workaway) and the 9 euro ticket was amazing to get around and between Hamburg and Hannover. I am back to Germany in August and will buy another 9 euro ticket. Have you tried Parkrun in Germany? You can use your UK barcode and run with the locals!! I admire you for travelling solo. I found it so hard and much prefer 'Workway' staying in one place and interacting with locals.
Literally yesterday me and my friend came to Istanbul, to pre-booked hotel from booking com. And guess what?) The sheets were dirty, the room was waaay smaller (just tiny) then in the pictures. But the neighborhood was also awful: more like cheap-cloth market, narrow roads, lot of people, kind of weird people. So we just asked for leaving the place because we are not satisfied with the room 🙃 In the end, using this first hotel wi-fi I super fast found some NICE hotel where only one room was left, which was on the other bank of the city, but almost the same price. The story ended well: my friend managed to describe our problem to manager and there was no fee for late canceling, while I found the hotel and we moved to a really beautiful street, with a lot of tourists, local coffee shops and public transport stops.
Holly, you could visit Bonn, as you were in Cologne 😀 it’s a pretty city too and a former capital of Germany. And I recommend to visit same castles close to the river Rhine! There’re not that far away from Frankfurt and so beautiful! 😍
Not a complete disaster, but I once turned up to a hostel to find that the residents were me (21 at the time, I think) and something like 45 ten-year-olds on a school trip. Definitely not the hostel experience I was going for.
