One thing to keep in mind is that this is a compilation video, so its some of my best clips over period of months. The other thing I would suggest is that you explore new spots often and try to cover a lot of ground during each dive. The highest concentration of fish will not necessarily be right near where you got into the water or the first place you choose to anchor your kayak. Cover ground and you'll soon learn the types of terrain that hold the most fish. Good luck and dive safe.
The artist is Rob Dougan and the song is "Nothing at All (Instrumental)". iTunes doesn't sell this instrumental version for some reason, but I found it elsewhere online. The gun is a Rob Allen 80cm. Great little gun for Northern California.
wow, I could learn a thing or two about better spearfishing watching this vid. Super calm and stealthy movements, slow head movements, you're an awesome diver man.

think of this. you're like a kelp leaf in the water. the more you can be like the kelp leaf, the deeper, longer and more efficient your dives will be.
Depth to bottom is around 55 feet at that spot if I'm not mistaken. Not quite as deep as it looks, maybe. I think having the kelp in the background gives a sense of covering a lot of ground from bottom to surface.
You made some great shots. Of course, compilation of best shots but still good shot stoning them. What's the best way to get into spearfishing in CA? Also, do you need a kayak or can you just spearfish from the surface?
It is. The majority of spearfishermen in California freedive, though, because it's more challenging, it's more athletic and many species (such as white seabass), are shy of the bubbles scuba divers blow.
When the seals show up, do you have to leave? I imagine the fish don't stick around with the seals? Have they ever tried to nab a fish off your stringer?
Nice vermillion and lings! How do you like your Rob Allen? I just got a 70cm RA. Tested it out last week. Landed two lings and made fish and chips. Great vidoes..keep'm coming. Dave
Is this in or near Monterey by any chance? I'm going to be heading up there every spring, and, I know we don't generally give our spots away, but is there a general area you'd recommend to start my hunt? Assuming, of course, you're near monterey area.
My friend I like you video, good shooting, but I don't like you black suit for tha area, with sea lions arounds tha area is white shark hunting zone. God guard you.

Great video. So relaxing. I love your style of diving. No movement seems wasted or hurried. Makes me want to dive NorCal so much!

All perfect head shots! Nice work. I Hunt down in San Diego, and many of our better reefs have been shut down as MLPA zones. Such a bummer. Oh well.

Still one of my favorite norcal spearing vids. Really great footage/editing. I can only hope to get this good with my gopro
