I love that you are making separate videos for each type of craft supply. I think that we are all guilty of the "I've got to have that" and then not using it syndrome. I get up every morning, grab my coffee and get on my computer/you tube to see if you have a new video posted. Watching you always starts my day off with a smile. Thanks for all your time spent making them for us!!

Nostalgia!!! When I first started stamping 50 years ago there were only wood mounted stamps and I actually built my own shelf just like the one on your wall for my stamps.

My daughter in law got me a BUNCH of wood mounted stamps at a yard sale!!! My husband put little narrow shelves up high in my craft room. I store them up there in full view and I can pick what I want. I keep a little step stool in there to grab them. They look really cute up there, too. The only draw back is that once in a while, you have to get up there and dust the shelf! lol I love all your wonderful ideas and I love your craft room, and enthusiasm.

Ho Lindsay, I know this is an older video but I'm so glad that you have offered up so many options to store stamps. I have unmounted about 90% of my stamps to save space. There are some foam sets and wood mount stamps I just can't part with but, your binder idea is what I'm following. Thank you for sharing your wonderful ideas.

I store my clear stamps the same as you - in binders. I am not brave enough to cut or break up the set. I keep up with my stamps by saving the image to my computer and taging them with keywords - it really helps me to keep up with them and easily see similar stamps.
I love all your videos. Tfs.

I would LOVE that big shelf you got for 5 bucks. Right now I'm depressed because I want something for my stamps but have no wall space :( I don't have a lot anyway but the ones I do, I want them out and displayed. But also within reach because I'm short. I don't have one little shelf, it's narrow and long, but the shelves are too far apart for storing most anything i have. I don't know what to use it for, also can't put anything my kids will get to since I craft in the living room and they are 1 & 2. Ps. I love watching you because you are always happy and also very willing to give so many tips and advice. Even on one topic, you give different suggestions. And alternatives if we don't have some of the supplies you are using.thanks so much

For my small alphabet sets like those you build the origami boxes for, I run a medium strength double-stick tape in rows across the bottom of the box and that way it grips the stamp enough to keep them in the box.

I use pringle cans to store the round roller stamps. Also I have a binder of just pictures of the stamps. The unmounted stamps are in file folders in a file cabinet. I am planning on taking the stamps off the wood blocks. I will take a plastic shoe container and file the unmounted stamps in CD cases. Now I have to find the wide CD cases. I plan to do just the HB, thanks, get well stamps like that until I decide if I like it. I took over our master bedroom for a stamp room. Thank for all the hints. Anita

All such great ideas! Love the printer trays but expensive to get in my neck of the woods...also, I don't have wall space (very open area). I love seeing all your wood-mounted stamps...I love wood mount stamps and have quite a collection, mostly PSX! I live where they were made, so come across them quite often at thrift stores and flea markets. I didn't live here when it was all the rage in the mid-90's (I think). These are great ideas! I am currently trying to get my craft room reorganized. My friend and I work together at my house and we have acquired a lot of items and everything has gotten to be a mess! So I am sorting things out and putting them in photo boxes and plan to sort by type of item and then sort them by theme. We have more Christmas stamps than anything else so all of that is going into a storage container for now and I will organize it before starting to make Christmas cards again. I really like your videos and I stay up at night and watch and make notes. I need my computer in my craft room, but there is no room for it. It is in my office, which is just across the hall. I may have to move some of my crafts back into my office space, but I really want all my crafting products in one room. I have tole painting, oil painting, water coloring, card making, etc. in there. I had everything sorted and in containers, but we decided to empty those boxes and put that stuff elsewhere in the craft room. Now I can's get to my acrylics, oils, etc. So I am reorganizing the reorganization. It is just not working for me. I will keep checking your videos for more help as I tackle my messy craft room.
Happy New Year and Happy Crafting!!!

this is a good idea, dividing up stamp sets. I have Gorjuss girl stamps, and I need to divide up the little girls and then all the little element/animal stamps, it takes forever going through 40 little packs of stamps looking for a 'moon'. Using the binder would make it so much easier also. Thanks for the tour, I love your basement setup.

Oh yeah, I know about buyer's remorse :P But that's ok. Just ask your husband to build a similar one of those wall mount stamp racks. Boy I love that thing. I have a small space too, so I use the Binder method for my acrylic stamps and have some wood mounted stamps in plastic drawer containers. Sentiments I use often like 'to/from' 'happy birthday' 'thank you' and 'handmade by' I have on a tiny shelf in front of me. The large wood mounted stamps I have on other small shelves throughout my room because - for me - they are beautiful pieces of art in themselves. This also makes them easily accessible. You know what they say - 'out of sight, out of mind,' so they have to be where I can see them or i'll forget I have them and won't use them. I love creating my own background papers with my own stamps. Thanks for sharing, Lindsay! God bless you and yours always.

But I love being down there and creating. So I don't seem to care. Do you use the rolling inkers for cards or canvas ??? Maybe you can do a tutorial on the use of them! Happy crafting!

I have solid floors so no basement and have started to use my spare room as a craft room. I took the doors off my airing cupboard and placed them on two drawer units and my computer, printer and home made paper storage are on the top with my sewing machine and craft magazines in the space underneath. I also have a wooden shelf unit that is a total jumble (still trying to work out the best way to store everything cheaply). I store a lot of my stamps in empty CD cases and then put them in a shoe box that my sister donated. I then have a wooden dressing table which is under the window acting as a desk that holds my die cutting machine. Oh, I also have to share my space with a large bookcase and my chest freezer lol.

I was going to store my wooden stamps similar to your method cuze I wanted to look at them for inspiration. But...last year when developing my craft room we had a minor (3.5) earthquake and .... So my neighbor but out a 6' cabinet out with "Free" sign. I was out in minutes. Only had 2 adjustable shelves so I found free wood from lumber store scraps perfect sized. Then painted it. Separated stamps into categories best for me and started saving plastic containers from Costco that I bought lettuce, tomatoes, fruit, etc in. I do store mounted and u mounted/acrylic together but I have about 1/4 what u have. Stampin ip sets R stored in their original containers. House Mouse stored separately. Now am looking for something small--maybe 24" wide 2-3 shelfs that can be mounted on wall just to put my House Mouse stamps on so I actually have some pretty stamps to decorate my room by not many so not a mess to clean after a quake. U r so lucky to find great yard sale items!!

Hello Lindsay, I just love watching your videos, and love your positive, kind spirit.
I was wondering if you have ever had problems with the stamps you leave out going dry and cracking. I am just starting a huge re-organization of my craft room and am putting my stamps in theme order too instead of organizing my manufacturer which they are now. I found a couple of cling stamps that are on acetate and both had been left outside any kind of packaging and both stamps have dried out and are starting to crack which concern me, because I have LOTS of stamps!!! Any suggestions? My crafting space is in my den off my living room/dining room in a 2-bedroom condo. My stamps are either in binders or containers or some kind and a lot are still in their original packaging, hmmm....
My goal is to put all of my clear and cling stamps (except those already in a binder system--I totally agree that some don't need to be moved if what they are in works, will have to reorganize by theme though) in binders by theme, but I am having trouble finding clear sheets with pockets that have a covered protector tab. Bought some years ago by Martha Stewart, but those aren't made anymore and they could have been sturdier for this purpose.
I purchased magnetic sheets from a magnetic sheet manufacturer with the help of a good friend--much cheaper and the quality of these magnetic sheets is superior for sure!!! So that will be for my metal dies, have some on those same sheets already, and I plan to keep the dies that go with those stamps together... But again I want to have these dies covered if possible, although if I had to choose it would be my stamps over my dies, but this way there's no dust on my dies.
Any suggestions for a good and reasonably priced source for clear sheets to put my stamps in 3-ring binders? I saw you have some cling rubber stamps on sheets that are not covered and after my experience with my 2 cling rubber stamps, I am concerned about just leaving these out in the air. I have some now on laminated sheets that are too large to fit into regular-sized cover sheets, so they are in storage boxes I bought at Joann Fabric, but I'd rather find another solution but don't want to waste these great laminated sheets!!!
I know this is long and I'm asking several questions and I apologize, but clearly you have a ton of expertise and I do not!!! Especially in organizing, I LOVE things to be organized, but after a car accident that left m disabled, I find it very tough to organize, hmmm... Anyway I need a good system for sure!!! And I am always looking outside the box for reasonable priced solutions that will be sturdy and work well!!!
CAN'T WAIT to have an organized space again, I do remember what that was like--a few years ago!!! :)
I'd appreciate any help/advice you can give to me, Lindsay. Also I have a good friend who is new to stamping and cardmaking but who has painted in the past, and she discovered you and has really gotten back into painting and is having a blast, all because of you, and I thank you!!! Like me, she is disabled (we've known each other since we were tiny, family friends), and painting is giving her such joy, and that makes me SO happy for her--so thanks for the joy you bring to her life and to so many. I am fairly new to your channel, can't wait to watch lots more!!! When I can't do much due to intense pain, I watch crafting TH-cams to distract me from the pain, so I will watch yours... :)
Sorry again this is SO long!!! I am SO keen to get my craft room very organized!!!
    Thanks so much,
    Joanne

Nice Lindsay! I'm just finishing up splitting up my stamps by theme....boy it's a tedious job but worth it! I have the smallest stuff in cd cases, medium sets in dvd cases and largest themes on cling sheets, put into these cool file folders that are like a sleeve so none of my stamps will fall off and get lost. Didn't like the binder idea as all the sheets stuck together n stamps would fall off and get lost. Thanks for sharing!

Idea for storing larger sentiment stamps with your other sentiments in the printer boxes. Pull the boxes apart and make very narrow but taller shelves in between. Same depth but more space. Not sure how to mount since I don't know what your wall is made of. Or store them in box near big alphabets and stamp samples and put with other sentiments to remind and inspire. Love your craft space!!!

Hi Lindsay, I have been thinking about moving my craft space down into my cellar but was worried about lighting as obviously there is no natural light also I really need the space and would be nice to give the dining room back to my family lol as that is where I craft right now. I am also worried that I would be less inclined to spend much time down there. It seems to work for you really well though so will definitely give it a go I think.. Kelsprettys I got a bunch of cheap aluminum clamp lights from Home Depot and put the daylight 100 watt equivalent CFLs in them and I get the long daylight fluorescent ballast lights for my other fixture. It is not bad and worth it to keep the mess all in one place. The onlythink I don't care for is the cold but all in all it is a small price to pay:)

thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich I have 4 long fluorescent lights over each of my tables and they're very bright. And have a vent-less gas heater in the basement that keeps it warm and toasty. We have carpet on the floors and paneling on the walls, plus a Bose CD player and a TV if I'm doing something and want to watch TV a little. My husband uses the upstairs TV for sports and more sports, so I spend a lot of time in the basement and love it. When I'm done, can just turn off the heater and lights and shut the door. Edna

    Hi
Love your stamps especially the wood ones they are beautiful just to look at. I dont have much room but cant bear to unmount mine even if it would save so much space you have the perfect display. I was wondering when you put your unmounted or clear stamps in the binders how do you mark them or remember which company they came from. I know most angel policies ask that you put were the stamp came from on anything that you sell...without the original packaging I would never remember. Also I seem to be getting more lately that have matching dies do you store yours with the stamp set? ..
Thanks for all the great ideas.

Deanna Maxwell many times I slide the whole set in it's package in the page protector so the info is there. I don't have too many oddballs and many companies keep their stamps constant or a different color rubber so it is easy to tell them apart. Hi Lindsey, thanks for the very helpful video - I have collected a lot of unmounted stamps and am struggling to store the sentiments. I tend to separate the images and store them in themes and then collect all the sentiments together as most can be used with a variety of themes. But all my unmounted ones are stuck in small boxes and I cant sort through them easily. It can take me ages to find an appropriate word or sentiment. :( If I mount them on little wooden blocks, do I need to put them on a foam backing of some sort first or can I just stick them straight on the wood?

Hey Lindsay, great video. But I do have a question, about 10 yrs ago I got some stamp sets, that were rubber but mounted on thick foam. I always kept my stamps in a tote with a lid, but it wasn't air tight. This year, thanks to your great tutorials, I got out my stamps and found that some of the thick foam mounted ones had completely dried out and had cracked. :( . The rubber wood mounted stamps were fine. But....I have very little room for alot of the wood mounted stamps, and I could never get them lined up, so I didn't use them all that much. When I learned about removing the stamp from the wood block and used them with the clear blocks I was hooked. My question is that I am keeping them stored in zip lock freezer bags, it's a little awkward, but I can deal with that. Will my stamps be sealed enough to not dry out, and could I just have gotten a bad quality stamp set? Sorry this is so long, looking forward to your excellent stamping advice. Thanks Alice

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Alice Clark hmmm, it could be a bad quality stamp but I have not had this problem. If you have a hard dry stamp you can coat it is glycerin and it will soften up, you don't even need to wash it off before use. Infact anytime I use glycerin/clear embossing ink, I leave it on the stamp, it helps keep the rubber soft:)

  • @angelhelp

All my art/crafting supplies are stored in my room at school, including the rubber stamps. I recently added some rolling carts with wire basket drawers for the stamps and stamp pads. The school is very dry in the winter, great for my nose but bad for rubber, so I was glad to learn about glycerin from your gly101 video; it saves me from keeping all the stamps in a zipped plastic bag. What do you suggest for unmounted rubber in a dry area? I had a little fun shopping at artneko. I really don't want to increase my classroom's humidity level since winter is the only time I'm comfortable, but I can't let the rubber suffer. Should I mount the rubber on foam, stamp a little glycerin, and just put them away? Should I continue using the plastic bags? Your binder solution isn't something I can copy since my bookshelves are all occupied.

Kim Miller Ahhhh, OK I want you to keep your eyes peeled for something to use as a guide, it should be 1/4"-1/2" thick, transparent would be good but it does not have to be. Look in the junk drawer, toy box, hubbys workshop etc. You need a guide to line up and stamp strait. If you quilt a couple quilter's rulers would work too!

I have the modern rubber stamps that you put on a acrylic block to stamp and I've kind of figured a solution for now to store those in like a file display I don't have as many of those.
