  • Episode 6 begins with Boo and I hanging out at French Quarter Festival. We don't move around the festival much. We had front of stage passes but the sun was blaring down when we arrived, so we sat in the shade to the side and listened to George Porter Jr, Little Freddie King and other acts on the nearest stage.
Later with the sun lower in the sky, we used our passes, got up close and personal and checked out Irma Thomas and her amazing band. As always she wowed the crowd and started that "second line" action. You'll see the audience participate.
Then the Chapel Hart Band came on stage, three Black women and their band who rocked the audience with powerful country music performances. That was a lot of fun. The crowd went crazy, jumping up and down and stuff.
Then the Monday evening after French Quarter Fest, 8 of 10 of the Posse members went back to Cafe Instanbul, to hear Sharon Martin again, but this time it was a celebration of her and several other's birthdays. (we celebrate everyone who was born in the same month) As is the custom for "birthday" gigs, every singer and musician in the audience eventually came on stage, giving the birthday girl a chance to enjoy some of the party. Same place, same vocalist, but a completely different show. Sharon is really good at varying the music at her shows.
No, I didn't ask how old she made.
On Saturday evening, Boo and I enjoyed a very different experience, The Music Live Ensemble, a combined Classical and Jazz live music experience was held on the University of New Orleans Campus.
Kid Jordan is now deceased but still is a globally acclaimed Jazz saxophonist and composer. I've been a fan since my high school days of sneaking under aged into Jazz sets at night clubs. In addition to his musical genius, he fathered a family of accomplished musicians, three of whom were featured in the ensemble: Jazz vocalist Stephanie Jordan, Jazz and Classical violinist Rachel and one of their brothers on Jazz trumpet.
Marlon. Stephanie, Rachael and Marlon are so highly accomplished and nationally acclaimed that we don't often get to enjoy them live in New Orleans, much less together on the same stage. The episode runs credits for the entire ensemble at the end, but the Jordan's were the sweetness that attracted Boo and me to the show.

At this stage of life, it really is a blessing to have this social circle of fun loving, really cool people.
