I think that a game can be realistic without losing the stylization of past games. For me, Rift Apart is literal proof that it is possible. I still feel like Jak and Daxter is the most original piece of work that Naughty Dog has created. I love The Last of Us and Uncharted, but they don't come close to the originality of Jak and Daxter's world-building. Hopefully Naughty Dog will return to it at some point.

seeing a new jak game with the stunning visuals of the scene mixed with the timeless animation style of the older jak games would be a dream... i can only hope that this and a continuation of the sly series come back to me as they were both one of the first like 5 video games i ever played and really established my love for gaming that has only grown over the years

You miss the fact that the developer team was completely changed for Uncharted, this new team wasn't familiar with the style of Jak so they tired to push it to the realistic side but failed. That's the reason they didn't make Jak 4. I'd love to see Insomniac's take on Jak or the Jak&Daxter fan project finished.
Yeah I remember the concepts i saw. Making ultra realistic kinda rebooting making daxter just an animal that doesn't talk all that stuff. If I'm honest I'm glad it didn't get to go. It wouldn't be recognizable as a jak game.

There's also probably so much about eco we don't know about. There's lots of potential in this series world. I think a true 4th game you'd have to do a hell of a lot of work. Yes fan games could do whatever they want but if anything else I'd like them to bring these back with a next gen esthetic or PS5 quality stuff. Contradictory to what, myself? The creators of Jak left. Almost all the staff from the old days has moved on. It's essentially a different company. and I don't want them putting a 'modern spin' on it just because they have the name. Give it to a company who's proved they can handle the genre.

The game cinematics look soooo good. They could've easily took, no take, inspiration from that approach. I was a bigger fan of Jax 2 & 3 over Ratchet and Clank games. I'd love a new Jax game of equal quality to Rift Apart

I just want to see jak and dax back in a new adventure you don't have to change how they look just give us a new mainline enemy like something ancient with the same stuff that we fell in love with before give us something fresh with better graphics that's all I was asking for I don't know about anybody else you can even throw modes in from Jack X if you wanted to really make it pop but you don't have to reboot the whole series just up your graphics sometimes I wish I was with game designer I make a fan game for Jak and Daxter 😢
@@Sol-Amar in Jak 3 they were at war with the Dark-makers which were revealed to be precursors who touched dark eco again after already being turned to otsels like Daxter. contrast that with in the lost frontier where daxter gets dark eco powers.
I think so, too. Might take an organic, fan-generated movement to get studios interested, e.g. open goal mods go viral like a cartoony minecraft or something.. But it'll happen. Too many talented people love the series, and will keep it alive in the meantime.

I'd like to see them try a Rift Apart approach. Sure, modern Naughty Dog is known for their realism and heavy narrative driven games, but that doesn't necessarily mean they couldn't pull it off. As long as they know to emulate the original games and not take their modern approach, while still using the knowledge they've gained over the past 15 years, they could really come out with an absolute banger of a Jak game. And I believe they are smart enough to do so, if they choose to make it.
If they can't even make the games they specialize in well, what makes you think they can emulate what they did before with a completely different team than before? What knowledge have they gained, exactly? Because their games only seem to get worse and worse. Also, poor choice of words because the ps4 rereleases were literally emulated, and if was poor emulation.
As a long time fan of the Jak and Daxter series, I would rather see a new Jak 4 even if it takes a whole new turn than to not have the game because the old games still exist, so even if it is like a whole new game it still continues the plot and would give a new experience. If they did a new one that was like the old style then it would just be like old times but expanded. So a new Jak 4 would be appreciated.
Jak 4 would've flopped hard if it looked similar to the concept art. If you *completely* alienate a fanbase of an established franchise but also don't interest enough new people a project is just dead in the water. Also if you consider the rough early years of the PS3 (2006-2008) a misfire like that could've done serious damage to ND as a studio (not in the TLoU 2 way either much worse than that). Jak 2 worked well enough because it was a new IP at the time so despite the changes nothing was fully established yet. So considering how long it's been if the franchise ever came back it'd have to rely on nostalgia to have any chance at success.
We may have dodged a bullet. That steampunk aesthetic was a terrible direction, especially considering all of the stylized Precursor architecture that came to define the feel of the game's environments. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, or chase passing trends...
As someone who has never EVEN seen Jak being played in front of me irl or even a copy of it I would have played every jak game to its MINUTE DETAILS to get to Jak 4 (I have a weird addiction to franchises that have a pre established feel being utterly changed to a darker tone)
Beloved childhood franchise. I'm happy that i played them on newer consoles as they were remastered. And be glad that they didnt release anything new just to sell a title and change everything about the game. If there are no new good ideas it's better for this game to stay as it is.
i would say i wouldn't mind a realistic jak 4 but i would like to thank them for thinking about the audience that brought them up. no game company does this these days.

I wouldn't have liked the change to the realistic art style as the cartoony look the games had is one of the reasons why they were interesting. Luckily the Ratchet & Clank series has shown that games can look good while still being cartoonish and if Naughty Dog ever decided to work on Jak and Daxter again they should keep the cartoony look or something similar to its since they are out of practice.
I ain't tryna hate on tlou but the fact that a franchise that's barely a decade old gets a remaster/ remake while Jak gathers dust is an insult to the Jak and Daxter franchise imo.
What Naughty dog should do is to give the jak games rights to Insomniac games if its to makes either a rebooted jak game or a proper jak 4 game. Insomniac Games proved themselves to be great devs for making excellent gameplay and stories. For example: Rac rift apart, Spider-man and Miles Morales Spider-man. On top of that everyone is hype for the new Spider-man 2 game coming this year. I am sure Insomniac Games will be able to revive the essence of the jak games both in graphics, gameplay and story. They are the only ones who could bring back our jak and daxter
Naughty dog made the jak games, but it's not up to them to hand over the rights to the jak games, Sony owns the IP so it's ultimately up to them to hand over the rights to Insomniac games
the games that were made before lost front, were supposed to be the last games they ever made, and now its.our turn, to rebulid what was lost, to gather all those eho are left, and hopefully there is more left to find to have.
Honestly I think a very interesting thing would be if they let Insomniac make a Jak game. The two companies have been buddy buddy for years and I'm sure they'd do a fantastic job and check in with Naughty Dog to get their input on it.
They should have just used the visuals as seen in the Jak X promo and manual art, this would have worked perfectly for a Jak and Daxter game on the PS3.
Instead of Jak 4 Naughty Dog should have done a prequel trilogy taking place before the events of Jak II and called this series "Haven City" Torn could have been the playable character along with Ashlyn

all they need to do is make the characters look like the final fantasy remake. Those graphics looked good and still retained some anime art style. Something like that couldve easily worked.
I never played Lost Frontier but from the clips I've watched, it kinda disgusted me thinking about how cheesy the characters looked, and then when I saw the flight gameplay, I was just dead inside.. Personally, I think the whole premise of having to "fix the incomplete world" and the whole Brink area with the edge of the world, but the art style, world size and gameplay just looked like utter crap. If I had to suggest a reboot, I'd suggest setting the plot along the Brink and even beyond it, getting rid of airplanes completely and instead introducing "solar sails" that can ride the waves, and the sky beyond the Brink, similarly to what you might see on the movie "Planet Treasure". Considering we were introduced to the Jak & Daxter series by our beloved characters boarding a boat, what better way to end it than with them on another boat?
Am I the only one that gets like... spiritual Jak and Daxter vibes from the latest Zelda? Like, they are cartoonish open-worlds, fantasy, post-ancient civilization, post-apocalypse, elemental magic, prophecy, time travel, and on and on. I think Naughty Dog skipping Jak for the whole hyper-realistic 4k resolution 120 fps phase of gaming was extremely wise. If Jak 2 became the way it was because of the popularity of GTA and Tony Hawk, maybe the Jak reboot might gain traction because of the popularity of TOTK? Probably wishful thinking, but hey, I'm watching Jak videos in 2023.
@@night6724 True to a point, but you saying they're not homo sapiens is why I referred to Jack's species as being different from our world's modern humans (h.sapeins). By "human" I mean the redesign looks more akin to "real world humans" as we know them to be today. I feel like the redesign should still stay true to the OG series species' morphology and phenotype. They might be termed "human" but most people would probably think jak is an elf or, at the very least, a different *species* under the genus Homo like Neanderthal or Habilis. It's just a matter of semantics.

It's a shame about not getting a proper Jak 4, but the Uncharted series was gold. I wish they would have just scrapped it altogether than pump out the Last Frontier.
It probably didn’t help that Jak and Daxter 4 was being developed in the time where everyone’s trying to push ultra realistic graphics, so when they tried making it realistic, it lost that style that made it Jak and Daxter. I’m still annoyed that ND is doing TLOU Part 2 Remaster instead of remaking Jak and Daxter Trilogy. I’m sure when they see how much the fans still love Jak and Daxter they’ll finally make a sequel. It’s a shame that out of the “Big Three”, Ratchet and Clank was the only one that made it to PS5 while Jak and Daxter got an “emulation port” on PS4 and Sly Cooper had an mediocre sequel for PS3.
The problem when people think 'realistic' is that they think real life, you can make things look realistic to a point, but still retain its original identity. If Naughty Dog doesn't feel comfortable stepping into those shoes again, maybe see if Insomniac is willing to take the torch and give it a go.
Jak and Daxter teaming up with the guardians of the Galaxy, that would be an interesting crossover imagine the conversations Daxter and rocket would have I imagine they would get into a fight as much as Daxter would with pecker.

If they every take up this IP again, do NOT! Make it photo realistic. Keep it in the cartoony style. Sure make it look modern, but keep the essence of the style. I also feel like the lore is a mess, with Mar and time traveling. So it might be a good idea to start over, or really focus on making the previous entries make sense. Personally I would love to be able to go between Heaven, Spargus and Kras city. I always wished to be able to walk around the rebuild Heaven in Jax X!
Regardless of whether or not Naughty Dog actually completed Jak 4, I feel some of Naughty Dog's concern might have been warranted. Given the reception Crash & Spyro got with their reboots (Titans & Legend), I could see how they were worried about alienating long time fans. And with Ratchet & Clank enduring with it's visual style for various generations, and not breaking from it. Aside from generational upgrades. I think a modern day Jak & Daxter (likely from anyone that's not Naughty Dog), would be perfect! Which Rift Apart has shown, but I'd imagibe more detail might be added to the duo. But...that's entirely if/when Sony actually decides to do anything with the series outside the upcoming film.

Different people, different games. It really matters based on who/what you get. That said: lost frontier was more mid than sly 4. Even for a side-game for the psp.
I don't think I'd want modern Naughty Dog to work on another Jak and Daxter game unless the found a group of passionate creators/developers who love the J&D series and would want to make another one. That way they could keep the style and story of the characters feeling the same while bringing it to modern audiences. I've been seeing a rise recently of people playing some of the older PS2 era games, so maybe game devs will start looking at their older IPs to consider remastering, remaking, or continuing where the games left off.
It's the modern audiences part i'm afraid of, look at games like the new Saints Row Reboot and how it failed, it was one of those made for modern audiences games

Fantasy based games don’t have to be realistic. The reason I play these games are to escape reality. I’d rather Naughty Dog keep the cartoony and playful nature of the game. The character design is great the way it is. Let insomniac games make the next game if there’s every a next game. And listen to the fans as well!
Just give the characters some improved texturing especially if we keep the style we got in Jak X cause that was perfect & peak but not too much and keep the realistic parts for objects, vehicles, substances, particle effects, environments and other things. It wouldn't feel like J&D if everything and everyone were realistic.
I think it's best that the Jak and Daxter games didn't take the realism fantasy approach. It destroys the whole appeal of a serious yet cartoony mascot platformer that won over people like myself in the first place. Sure it might of built up a newer fan-base but like the latest God of War games, it likely would've discarded it's original appeal in exchange for a generic "Triple-A experience". It would have been cool to get a fully realised Jak 4 game but at this point, with big Studio's not being what they used to be anymore, I'd just be happy to see the main trilogy make it to pc. We recently got the first two games - unofficially yet amazingly - ported via OpenGOAL. One more to go and I'd say I'm fulfilled.
Were this "Jak 4" to be made, I think it would've spelled the death of the franchise. At best, we'd get a DmC Reboot situation where the game came out, people saw it for the inferior product it was, and Capcom would bring the series back in earnest years later. The thing is though, Jak has struggled with its identity for the longest time. Where Ratchet & Clank quickly found its niche, and Sly's stealth-platforming was set up as early as the first game, Jak's drastic shifts in genres has led to a very uneven and divisive experience. Jak 1 is one of my all-time favourite platformers, and easily one of the best collectathon platforms out there, but Jak 2 would take the controls of that game and hop on to the GTA bandwagon. And Jak 3's rushed development and obvious homages to Mad Max and Judge Dredd, or just its overreliance on minigames separate from the core gameplay, drove an even greater wedge between its playerbase. I enjoyed all three games, and there's a lot to love about each, but the Jak franchise didn't have much staying power, especially when compared to the three other Sony platformers. It's not impossible to make a banger Jak 4, but what would it even look like, all these years later? They'd update a lot of mechanics from the Jak games, like manual aiming, but how much of these changes would it take before it ceases to be Jak and becomes nigh indistinguishable from every other triple-A third-person shooter on the market, or compared to the Ratchet games that already focus on the fusion between platforming and shooting? Would they then lean on the vehicular combat aspect? But the industry's already saturated with vehicular sandbox games as is, so what would Naughty Dog do to differenciate themselves from those types of games, aside from hover cars carried over from past games? I'm happy we got Jak X, and later Daxter, but I think the series should've ended there. As far as I'm concerned, it did. Nobody acknowledges The Lost Frontier, and with good reason. It was a bland, soulless, mediocre game, trying to squeeze blood from the stone of an already-concluded franchise. So I think Jak should just be preserved from now on. Sony should preserve the 5 good games in the franchise, but other than that, leave it well enough alone.
What if they were to figure out this identity? Find the right balance as to not stray away from what makes Jak well, Jak. TPL for sure feels so much more different than the others, what if they somehow, one day find the right formula?
The concept art for the characters was bad. If they aren't interested in making stylized games anymore, it's best for Jak to be left behind. I wish the series did continue, though.
OR they could just reboot the game like Ratchet & Clank redo the entire first game add new systems improve on combat a little, way better graphics that were amazing for the time but now remade completely, more content etc. With that they could remake the 2nd & 3rd just like this as formula THEN! Finally make a Jak 4 I mean is that so hard? Maybe it is idk I need to speak to a Naughty Dog employee they have an easy way to do this!
I don't believe current Naughty Dog can make a fun game like Crash or Jak anymore, thanks to Druckmann they are too deep in the "we don't do fun here" mode.

It wouldn't even make sense to release a jak and daxter game like this. It looks more "try -hard" than Jak 2 did honestly. How do you fix something that was broken by it's second game?
Personally, I am skeptical that Jak has any future with nd, and even if it did, I am skeptical that it would be the same Jak from the previous titles, in terms of gameplay, character, story and artstyle. Plus, nd has a history of disrespecting its customer base, characters, and stories, (Joel) so even if they did make a new Jak, I doubt that I would want it. I think the only future Jak has is through openGOAL, assuming some corpo dickhead doesn't get any bright ideas, and community passion projects. Honestly, I am terrified that sony is gonna try something and end up killing openGOAL in the process.

Simply in 2009 they were at their best with Uncharted 2, they knew that Jak and Daxter fans were cry babies, they were not going to harm the company's reputation. The Lost Frontier was well received by the gaming media, but the Nostalfags caused ND to leave the franchise. They were afraid of receiving those insults if they created something that the fans would not like, ironically the script of The Lost Frontier was done by Daniel Arey (The creative director of the trilogy)

That Jak and Daxter model in RA is flawless. Updated, fine-tuned, more life-like, but hasn't lost any of the character.

Rift apart is literally a prime example of making your characters look real while keeping the style of the series
The game cinematics look soooo good. They could've easily took, no take, inspiration from that approach. I was a bigger fan of Jax 2 & 3 over Ratchet and Clank games. I'd love a new Jax game of equal quality to Rift Apart

This is a pretty thorough explanation as to way we won't be seeing anymore Jak. Sometimes things end and it's best that things happen the way they did.
I just want to see jak and dax back in a new adventure you don't have to change how they look just give us a new mainline enemy like something ancient with the same stuff that we fell in love with before give us something fresh with better graphics that's all I was asking for I don't know about anybody else you can even throw modes in from Jack X if you wanted to really make it pop but you don't have to reboot the whole series just up your graphics sometimes I wish I was with game designer I make a fan game for Jak and Daxter 😢

@@Sol-Amar in Jak 3 they were at war with the Dark-makers which were revealed to be precursors who touched dark eco again after already being turned to otsels like Daxter. contrast that with in the lost frontier where daxter gets dark eco powers.

I think so, too. Might take an organic, fan-generated movement to get studios interested, e.g. open goal mods go viral like a cartoony minecraft or something.. But it'll happen. Too many talented people love the series, and will keep it alive in the meantime.

I'd like to see them try a Rift Apart approach. Sure, modern Naughty Dog is known for their realism and heavy narrative driven games, but that doesn't necessarily mean they couldn't pull it off. As long as they know to emulate the original games and not take their modern approach, while still using the knowledge they've gained over the past 15 years, they could really come out with an absolute banger of a Jak game. And I believe they are smart enough to do so, if they choose to make it.
If they can't even make the games they specialize in well, what makes you think they can emulate what they did before with a completely different team than before? What knowledge have they gained, exactly? Because their games only seem to get worse and worse.

This weird looking Jak fits more for Final Fantasy then our Jak 3 and Frontier version
As a long time fan of the Jak and Daxter series, I would rather see a new Jak 4 even if it takes a whole new turn than to not have the game because the old games still exist, so even if it is like a whole new game it still continues the plot and would give a new experience. If they did a new one that was like the old style then it would just be like old times but expanded. So a new Jak 4 would be appreciated.
Jak 4 would've flopped hard if it looked similar to the concept art. If you *completely* alienate a fanbase of an established franchise but also don't interest enough new people a project is just dead in the water. Also if you consider the rough early years of the PS3 (2006-2008) a misfire like that could've done serious damage to ND as a studio (not in the TLoU 2 way either much worse than that).
Jak 2 worked well enough because it was a new IP at the time so despite the changes nothing was fully established yet. So considering how long it's been if the franchise ever came back it'd have to rely on nostalgia to have any chance at success.
We may have dodged a bullet. That steampunk aesthetic was a terrible direction, especially considering all of the stylized Precursor architecture that came to define the feel of the game's environments. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, or chase passing trends...

As someone who has never EVEN seen Jak being played in front of me irl or even a copy of it I would have played every jak game to its MINUTE DETAILS to get to Jak 4 (I have a weird addiction to franchises that have a pre established feel being utterly changed to a darker tone)
Beloved childhood franchise. I'm happy that i played them on newer consoles as they were remastered. And be glad that they didnt release anything new just to sell a title and change everything about the game. If there are no new good ideas it's better for this game to stay as it is.

I wouldn't have liked the change to the realistic art style as the cartoony look the games had is one of the reasons why they were interesting. Luckily the Ratchet & Clank series has shown that games can look good while still being cartoonish and if Naughty Dog ever decided to work on Jak and Daxter again they should keep the cartoony look or something similar to its since they are out of practice.

What Naughty dog should do is to give the jak games rights to Insomniac games if its to makes either a rebooted jak game or a proper jak 4 game.
Insomniac Games proved themselves to be great devs for making excellent gameplay and stories. For example: Rac rift apart, Spider-man and Miles Morales Spider-man. On top of that everyone is hype for the new Spider-man 2 game coming this year.
I am sure Insomniac Games will be able to revive the essence of the jak games both in graphics, gameplay and story. They are the only ones who could bring back our jak and daxter

Naughty dog made the jak games, but it's not up to them to hand over the rights to the jak games, Sony owns the IP so it's ultimately up to them to hand over the rights to Insomniac games
the games that were made before lost front, were supposed to be the last games they ever made, and now its.our turn, to rebulid what was lost, to gather all those eho are left, and hopefully there is more left to find to have.
Honestly I think a very interesting thing would be if they let Insomniac make a Jak game. The two companies have been buddy buddy for years and I'm sure they'd do a fantastic job and check in with Naughty Dog to get their input on it.
They should have just used the visuals as seen in the Jak X promo and manual art, this would have worked perfectly for a Jak and Daxter game on the PS3.

all they need to do is make the characters look like the final fantasy remake. Those graphics looked good and still retained some anime art style. Something like that couldve easily worked.
I never played Lost Frontier but from the clips I've watched, it kinda disgusted me thinking about how cheesy the characters looked, and then when I saw the flight gameplay, I was just dead inside.. Personally, I think the whole premise of having to "fix the incomplete world" and the whole Brink area with the edge of the world, but the art style, world size and gameplay just looked like utter crap.
If I had to suggest a reboot, I'd suggest setting the plot along the Brink and even beyond it, getting rid of airplanes completely and instead introducing "solar sails" that can ride the waves, and the sky beyond the Brink, similarly to what you might see on the movie "Planet Treasure". Considering we were introduced to the Jak & Daxter series by our beloved characters boarding a boat, what better way to end it than with them on another boat?
Am I the only one that gets like... spiritual Jak and Daxter vibes from the latest Zelda? Like, they are cartoonish open-worlds, fantasy, post-ancient civilization, post-apocalypse, elemental magic, prophecy, time travel, and on and on. I think Naughty Dog skipping Jak for the whole hyper-realistic 4k resolution 120 fps phase of gaming was extremely wise. If Jak 2 became the way it was because of the popularity of GTA and Tony Hawk, maybe the Jak reboot might gain traction because of the popularity of TOTK? Probably wishful thinking, but hey, I'm watching Jak videos in 2023.
I think Rift Apart's balance in visuals and platforming could inspire Jak today.

@@night6724 True to a point, but you saying they're not homo sapiens is why I referred to Jack's species as being different from our world's modern humans (h.sapeins). By "human" I mean the redesign looks more akin to "real world humans" as we know them to be today. I feel like the redesign should still stay true to the OG series species' morphology and phenotype. They might be termed "human" but most people would probably think jak is an elf or, at the very least, a different *species* under the genus Homo like Neanderthal or Habilis. It's just a matter of semantics.

It's a shame about not getting a proper Jak 4, but the Uncharted series was gold. I wish they would have just scrapped it altogether than pump out the Last Frontier.

It probably didn’t help that Jak and Daxter 4 was being developed in the time where everyone’s trying to push ultra realistic graphics, so when they tried making it realistic, it lost that style that made it Jak and Daxter. I’m still annoyed that ND is doing TLOU Part 2 Remaster instead of remaking Jak and Daxter Trilogy. I’m sure when they see how much the fans still love Jak and Daxter they’ll finally make a sequel. It’s a shame that out of the “Big Three”, Ratchet and Clank was the only one that made it to PS5 while Jak and Daxter got an “emulation port” on PS4 and Sly Cooper had an mediocre sequel for PS3.

The problem when people think 'realistic' is that they think real life, you can make things look realistic to a point, but still retain its original identity. If Naughty Dog doesn't feel comfortable stepping into those shoes again, maybe see if Insomniac is willing to take the torch and give it a go.

If they every take up this IP again, do NOT! Make it photo realistic. Keep it in the cartoony style. Sure make it look modern, but keep the essence of the style.
I also feel like the lore is a mess, with Mar and time traveling. So it might be a good idea to start over, or really focus on making the previous entries make sense. Personally I would love to be able to go between Heaven, Spargus and Kras city. I always wished to be able to walk around the rebuild Heaven in Jax X!
Regardless of whether or not Naughty Dog actually completed Jak 4, I feel some of Naughty Dog's concern might have been warranted. Given the reception Crash & Spyro got with their reboots (Titans & Legend), I could see how they were worried about alienating long time fans.
And with Ratchet & Clank enduring with it's visual style for various generations, and not breaking from it. Aside from generational upgrades. I think a modern day Jak & Daxter (likely from anyone that's not Naughty Dog), would be perfect! Which Rift Apart has shown, but I'd imagibe more detail might be added to the duo.
But...that's entirely if/when Sony actually decides to do anything with the series outside the upcoming film.
Technically it would be Jak 7 if we count the spinoffs. ;)

OpenGOAL gives me a lot of hope. Here you have the community getting really familiar with the guts of the old Jak games. Maybe this trains up a new generation of people capable of giving us something like what Ratchet and Clank got. If Naughty Dog won’t utilize these people’s talents, then maybe they can band together and make a spiritual successor
I think it could make a new IP. The artwork looks like it would make an interesting world and game. Don't have to give the characters the same names if they are so different. Though it might be necessary to change the species of the ottsel guy to something else.

Pretty disappointing how Naughty Dog did not approve of The Lost Frontier quite as much as Sucker Punch did to Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time.

I don't think I'd want modern Naughty Dog to work on another Jak and Daxter game unless the found a group of passionate creators/developers who love the J&D series and would want to make another one. That way they could keep the style and story of the characters feeling the same while bringing it to modern audiences.
I've been seeing a rise recently of people playing some of the older PS2 era games, so maybe game devs will start looking at their older IPs to consider remastering, remaking, or continuing where the games left off.

Fantasy based games don’t have to be realistic. The reason I play these games are to escape reality. I’d rather Naughty Dog keep the cartoony and playful nature of the game. The character design is great the way it is. Let insomniac games make the next game if there’s every a next game. And listen to the fans as well!

Just give the characters some improved texturing especially if we keep the style we got in Jak X cause that was perfect & peak but not too much and keep the realistic parts for objects, vehicles, substances, particle effects, environments and other things. It wouldn't feel like J&D if everything and everyone were realistic.

I think it's best that the Jak and Daxter games didn't take the realism fantasy approach. It destroys the whole appeal of a serious yet cartoony mascot platformer that won over people like myself in the first place.
Sure it might of built up a newer fan-base but like the latest God of War games, it likely would've discarded it's original appeal in exchange for a generic "Triple-A experience". It would have been cool to get a fully realised Jak 4 game but at this point, with big Studio's not being what they used to be anymore, I'd just be happy to see the main trilogy make it to pc.
We recently got the first two games - unofficially yet amazingly - ported via OpenGOAL. One more to go and I'd say I'm fulfilled.
I can't trust Naughty Dog of today on making another Jak game.
Were this "Jak 4" to be made, I think it would've spelled the death of the franchise. At best, we'd get a DmC Reboot situation where the game came out, people saw it for the inferior product it was, and Capcom would bring the series back in earnest years later.
The thing is though, Jak has struggled with its identity for the longest time. Where Ratchet & Clank quickly found its niche, and Sly's stealth-platforming was set up as early as the first game, Jak's drastic shifts in genres has led to a very uneven and divisive experience. Jak 1 is one of my all-time favourite platformers, and easily one of the best collectathon platforms out there, but Jak 2 would take the controls of that game and hop on to the GTA bandwagon. And Jak 3's rushed development and obvious homages to Mad Max and Judge Dredd, or just its overreliance on minigames separate from the core gameplay, drove an even greater wedge between its playerbase.
I enjoyed all three games, and there's a lot to love about each, but the Jak franchise didn't have much staying power, especially when compared to the three other Sony platformers. It's not impossible to make a banger Jak 4, but what would it even look like, all these years later? They'd update a lot of mechanics from the Jak games, like manual aiming, but how much of these changes would it take before it ceases to be Jak and becomes nigh indistinguishable from every other triple-A third-person shooter on the market, or compared to the Ratchet games that already focus on the fusion between platforming and shooting? Would they then lean on the vehicular combat aspect? But the industry's already saturated with vehicular sandbox games as is, so what would Naughty Dog do to differenciate themselves from those types of games, aside from hover cars carried over from past games?
I'm happy we got Jak X, and later Daxter, but I think the series should've ended there. As far as I'm concerned, it did. Nobody acknowledges The Lost Frontier, and with good reason. It was a bland, soulless, mediocre game, trying to squeeze blood from the stone of an already-concluded franchise.
So I think Jak should just be preserved from now on. Sony should preserve the 5 good games in the franchise, but other than that, leave it well enough alone.
What if they were to figure out this identity? Find the right balance as to not stray away from what makes Jak well, Jak. TPL for sure feels so much more different than the others, what if they somehow, one day find the right formula?

Technically being the 4th and 5th game isn't the samething. Even when games are canon (such as Jak X) it still isn't the case.
The concept art for the characters was bad. If they aren't interested in making stylized games anymore, it's best for Jak to be left behind. I wish the series did continue, though.

OR they could just reboot the game like Ratchet & Clank redo the entire first game add new systems improve on combat a little, way better graphics that were amazing for the time but now remade completely, more content etc. With that they could remake the 2nd & 3rd just like this as formula THEN! I don't believe current Naughty Dog can make a fun game like Crash or Jak anymore, thanks to Druckmann they are too deep in the "we don't do fun here" mode.

It wouldn't even make sense to release a jak and daxter game like this. It looks more "try -hard" than Jak 2 did honestly. How do you fix something that was broken by it's second game?
Personally, I am skeptical that Jak has any future with nd, and even if it did, I am skeptical that it would be the same Jak from the previous titles, in terms of gameplay, character, story and artstyle. Plus, nd has a history of disrespecting its customer base, characters, and stories, (Joel) so even if they did make a new Jak, I doubt that I would want it. I think the only future Jak has is through openGOAL, assuming some corpo dickhead doesn't get any bright ideas, and community passion projects. Honestly, I am terrified that sony is gonna try something and end up killing openGOAL in the process.

Simply in 2009 they were at their best with Uncharted 2, they knew that Jak and Daxter fans were cry babies, they were not going to harm the company's reputation. The Lost Frontier was well received by the gaming media, but the Nostalfags caused ND to leave the franchise. They were afraid of receiving those insults if they created something that the fans would not like, ironically the script of The Lost Frontier was done by Daniel Arey (The creative director of the trilogy)
