Geri Halliwell andmdash; known to many as 'Ginger Spice' andmdash; comments on a recent Twitter apology she sent to her followers nearly 19 years after abruptly leaving the Spice Girls, and further explains why she said goodbye to the smash girl group all those years ago.

I've just converted to be Geri's fan, She's just lovely and adorable at the same time funny lol
i read her book cover to cover and it explains pretty much everything that led up to getting in the group, which she was already not in a good head space then the pressure of fame and running a girl band was weighing heavy on her. i always think if she stuck it out and had that 2 week break in between the European and american leg and just rested that she would have come to the usa with a refreshed spirit.
I think she does regret about the way she left them (On Mel B's birthday, right before the USA tour and not saying anything). I think she was in a complete identity crisis back then. Being viewed as the sexy loud mouth that couldn't really sing or dance according to the media while she had massive artistic input with writing the songs. I think when the other girls showed they could handle a tough long world tour and also started taking the creative force from Geri she had enough (had nothing more she could offer in her mind).
She had raging eating disorders as well, there was friction with Mel B, she was depressed, her dad died etc.

It was said when they had a manager they would fight but then he would smooth the situation . But when they fired him . They really came head on and were burned out !
Geri was depressed when she left. But I'm so glad she's happy, healthy and herself again.
I feel for her... It's too bad that the other girls couldn't have picked up on it and they all could have worked something out.. they all knew they had 2 weeks off in between the 2 legs of that tour... Maybe let her take a week off and then come back fresh and new.. easier said then done but when there's a will there is a way.

I can understand why she left the way she did. Imagine having to go to work daily and work with people you dislike, or having to work on things that you no longer have an interest in. And at some point you realise money isn’t everything and leave really abruptly because you just want to be free. You later sit back and think, maybe I could have dealt with it differently.
happened to me at my job, every single day i felt trapped. I was depressed because of how the schedule was done, i expressed to them how I would like my schedule to be. They said over and over again that they would change it, but they never did, and I was stuck night after night after night after night closing shifts with one other employee and it was so busy, I put in many complaints that we need more people at night. they wouldn't listen, I got severely sick during my shift and said- yeah I can't do this anymore & I left. my manager told me to take a week off to get better but during that week I decided not to go back, and this manager fought for me to come back for almost 2 months because she really liked me (she sent me many emails, letters in the mail). Plus, i was well liked by the customers and gave everybody great customer service.
when you're burnt out to the point where you feel trapped at a job, and you feel as if you can't leave, it's a horrible horrible feeling.
@@sounds0fmeows I know exactly where you're coming from and yes, it's a horrible place to be mentally. I used to work for a corporate company in London which used to link to Heathrow Airport. Early starts and coming home with a laptop to only continue in the evening. I remember I called in sick, and just never went back. I couldn't care less if I got paid or not- I just wanted out. I totally get where you're coming from! It's nice if you have a supportive manager which you did. I hope you were able to find a career that you later enjoyed x
Yea I remember during the summer when she apologized, I think on Twitter. So when I saw this and how long ago it was I had to see it. Not knowing that she'd actually site her apology on Twitter.
I will always speak my mind no matter what, Geri left the group because she had a thing with Mel B LOL!

That thing is Geri and Mel B had a big fight, big argument. As you can see Mel b bullied them all. After Geri, it's Mel C that's the time they really end up. And now it's Victoria Mel B saying a lot of bad things bout her, that's why Victoria doesn't want to join them. IMO Geri is the one that can make a right decision as its always been since the beginning.
I agree, that might be part of the problem. They had a great great relationship and at the same time, Geri was going through a lot. I think her relationship with Mel B changed her. All those who cannot admit this that's fine. But there are many clips and quotes and interviews that both Geri and Mel B said about each other that made all of us thought that it was more than friendship. Looking back I think they broke up and it probably triggered Geri to make that decision but at the same time we were not there. I think girls in the group all knew the real reason. Even when Geri returned, you can see Geri's attraction to Mel B increased. It was always there from the beginning. But anyways, I do agree with you, considering the pictures, tour video clips, interviews, even quotes they wrote about each other in their memoir. When we see Geri speaks on Mel B, you can see in her eyes that she loves her and respect her. Same with Mel B. But a lot of people who like to be naive and just think this is friendship, let them be. This cannot be just a friendship because we don't see the with Geri and the rest of the members of the group. Geri is a Leo and Mel B is a Gemini, they clash and their chemistry are fire. I am happy that Geri and Mel B made peace and regained their friendship again. Those two are obviously soulmates.
It doesn't matter now she left and she rejoined them for the first reunion and she's back again, I don't think she would ever leave again. But the Spice Girls won't continue forever, make the most out of it now.

well even tho i was very sad when she left, it was right for her to heal her mind and body. those last few months of the 98 tour probably felt like an eternity to her. she mentioned to the girls that at the end of the tour she would leave in sept 99 after they did wembley stadium back in britian. she just couldnt hang on anymore. this may sound like a shallow observation but i knew something was up with her when she cut her hair into a bob and it wasnt red anymore.
the R&B album is low-ley their best one tbh, Holler is so good

that album was atrocious, hence why it tanked and left the charts very quickly. Holler was the worst song they ever released as a single, hence why it was their least successful and critically panned. Only tasteless R&B heads think that album was good 😂

if i were in a group where all of us were managing the group i would give that person in my group the time she needed especially if we had a 2 week break coming up.
All that I can say to that is very good her for trying something different

The producers who worked in Spice and Spiceworld stayed with Geri for her 1999 debut. She kept the 90s pop sound and that album is AMAZING. Geri was also the one who more gave ideas to songs.
I still haven't forgiven her and I doubt I ever will. It broke my heart as I was a massive fan and I only saw all 5 of them live in concert just a month before Geri quit!
Geri didn't like Holler?? lol. That music was the wave of the early 2000's though. I cant see her on that video. Shes too rebellious to be smooth and hip.

Alessandra Reátegui her vocals couldn’t sing holler. She’s got that raspy snouty voice.
They had to go in a different direction. Geri and her ideas were irreplaceable.
@@alessandrareategui_ It's more she never saw herself or the Spice Girls as R&B. She wrote in her book, she's more about melodies than grooves. She likes R&B to listen to but she doesnt really see herself or the group when she was in it as an R&B group. She saw them as a Pop group who dabbled into R&B on one or two tracks per album but she never wanted to do as an R&B album as she found it funny to convince the world that Geri from Watford was really an R&B diva. She's so right. The album bombed and no one took them seriously as R&B. She knew way better who she was and what her image was. Her first pop album was brilliant and way more personal and with alot more personality than the third Spice album
If she was unhappy and wanted to leave, thats fine. It’s just the way she did it that left a bad taste in everyones mouth. It’s like when you quit your job you give some kind of notice. In this case the most respectful thing would have been to leave after completing the world tour. It sucks that they had to continue a massive world tour with a key member missing. They had to edit the show and distribute Geri’s part between the other members, what a nightmare it must have been at the time.

The other girls knew that she will leave the band, but no one thought that she left sooner

@@damdaung8369 Well Geri and Mel had a relationship and Mel didnt mind hooking up in front of Geri with Jimmy every single day for her to see. That must have hurt alot so i dont blame her when she left when and how she did. She told them she was gonna leave in September after the tour anyway, it just came to a head before because they did not get along anymore at the time and judging by how the others but especially Mel B treated her in interviews in May before she left, i dont blame her for one second.
I am glad she said in another video that when you meet your idol it can be like ummmmm. :/ As in your disappointed. Well i am very sad and hurt. I am a huge spice girls fan, think of them as family, as role models, think of them every day, waited patiently for promised things, shelved projects and most of all unreleased songs. The girls all have solo real verified fb pages but still don't talk or answer or get anything released when they are very known for being independent and packed with girl power. The girls have thousands of likes on Facebook but only a few comments and etc on the pages so they are not overwhelmed at all with too many messages or comments to reply to. They can answer mail and comment here and there but don't. So i just post online in places like this for them to see. I love you. Please don't be stuck up and only talk to celebrities. We made you rich not them. They just like you because your rich and famous. We loved you for who you are, what you do and we put the cash in your pockets. We put you in mansions and we lead you into some of your marriages and families. I mean that all in a very kind way. In a sweet kind way you owe us all the unreleased songs especially the song W. O. M. A. N. You performed it once and promised us that it will be on the forever album. There were a few pop songs on there like if you wanna have some fun so there was no excuse to leave the best pop songs out. Mel B promised us all that the song will be ours on that cd. You have lovers and haters. Yes some people will think the unreleased songs suck and the GEM trio group songs suck... Who cares??? It is normal to have great and bad reviews. Release the songs for your fans who love you, love all of your songs and need them please . They really help keep us going. I feel happy and it lowers my deep depression to be honest. Just because mel c may not like C.U.N.T does not mean we will all hate it. It is our right to hear these songs and decide if we simply want to not listen to them or enjoy the songs. Almost every other artist on this planet has unreleased songs, demos, instrumentals and more but the spice girls things are a pain in the ass to get. You are not lame or are baby music. We can handle it and really love raunchy sexy bad girl songs. If Its loving on your mind is naughty and it rocks! Pain proof is awesome. A day in your life is beautiful. We love these unreleased songs. Please give us a chance. Release them all please in 320 kbps quality. We will buy them all. Itunes is great. Plus release cds as well. We love unusual cds and songs. Please also release gems songs. Song for her is a great song. All of these spice girls and gem solo songs can be appreciated by the right people. Sitting on the shelves is not right or helpful at all. It is unappreciative to be honest. You are my heros and i need all of these please. We need these. I am counting on my one strong voice being granted my wish. It is to help everyone who cares and there are millions. Please come through. I am looking forward to Woman, Feed your love, Perfect vision, Melody of life, C.u.n.t and many many others! :) Imagine if the b-side song Outer space girls was not released or the b-side One of these girls. That would suck. If the pepsi song Step to me was not released that would have been horrible because it rocks! You released spice invaders as a b-side and that one is funny but pointless. Jasmine Woww being the fact that they are the artists that wrote them, they obviously decided they weren't good enough to release to market, both for the album and again after. You may just have to like the songs you have

still that R'n'b album was their worst and they didn't last long after her departure...so yes, geri's departure has a lot on impact on the band's future!
I dont think was the worst for me it was a grown up spice, and like very much, different style , different vibe. But yeah it's true, geri left and they went down but not it's all her fault the other girls wanted to do solo too.
She should had longer tho...3 album and then split... maybe retract and do a 4 album right now

Geri only had a hand in one of the singles, and some of the other songs (Tell Me Why, If You Wanna Have Some Fun, Wasting My Time) were all great! But I do agree that I prefer the first two albums.

@@galegorgeous8857 If You Wanna Have Some Fun was the only great non single imo. Tell Me Why, Wasting My Time, Get Down With Me all sounded the same to me. They had way more variety in the songs on the first two albums. It wasnt like there wasnt R&B but they mixed it with other styles. Geri clearly had a huge impact on their music and writing. TBh they seemed a bit bland without her.

Their third album wasn’t so great. Wish Geri was there to go nyeehh! They could’ve taken over the world forever had she stayed.
The rnb album was good but yes if geri stayed the third album songs would have been best and the girls sexy more unique looks would have been done instead of the toned down look. The spice was not strong and they looked like they were blended in to fit with destinys child and tlc. By the album cover alone. When your number 1 and have all the white people on your side plus many other types of people and the remaining african Americans who only support tlc and destinys child for their all black singers and different type of music well you do not do that big of a difference. If they kept the pop rock songs and added in some rnb and hip hop plus surprised us all with like 17 songs instead of the predictable amount plus released Woman as single one then holler, then pain proof and let love lead the way with a day in your life as the two for one single well that would have guaranteed a number one album plus gained new fans and made the big fans happy :) Geri leaving screwed up everything. They had to drop all plans and many projects of the spice girls that we are sincerely owed. Stannard sucks and screwed up big time. I told him this in a very polite way on Facebook on his post if him being cruel about lady gaga and i went over what should have happened with the spice girls and how gaga's cd Joanne is a good album. Not her best but he was just mean. I stayed very friendly but then noticed he blocked me. Some hidden hero he turned out to be. If you don't like an opinion and suggestion by a paying customer and huge fan then get a life. We made you who you are. I helped by paying and paying and supporting the spice girls. Geri even said it. The rnb album was not my thing. My opinion is that forever is a good album but it was thrown together. Mel c did not even sing with the girls. She did all vocals later. The music makers said they rarely made that type of music so why do it? If the music makers are not spiders in their web of expertise then stick with who is. Maybe the ones who made the huge hit albums!? I believe it was done on purpose. It was a fun gamble to slowly get toned down and move out to do solos and be moms. At least give us all the spice girls projects that were shelved and ALL UNRELEASED SONGS AND DEMOS PLEASE. LARRY PLEASE HELP. We are counting on you. Stannard is a cold bitch and greedy loser. He posts teasing clips of songs we cannot have and he sings during the chinsey 20 seconds if that even and then smiles like look what i got and what you can't have. I keep asking for the spice girls to help. They have their own real solo pages with not too much activity but still don't talk or answer mail or requests it breaks my heart. Mel b sold a tape at auction with unreleased songs. One leaked in low quality called strong enough. Where are the rest??? Is the person going to do the right thing and get the songs all perfect in sound and quality by a professional and then hopefully get them out to us all before the tape is broken and everything is lost completely? I hate this mess. Everything was going to be great until Geri left. It was to do breast cancer but she did the solo music right away so this whole thing is bull crap. If she did solo music a few years later it would make more sense. I still love her though. I just am saying that we are owed big time. Please release all the spice girls projects and all the unreleased songs and demos now before we all die. The Supremes had unreleased songs and a 1960s album released from the 90's into 2005 i believe it was. I don't wanna be old finally getting to hear these songs!!!!!!
Seriously? These ladies don't owe anybody anything. By the way, I'm pretty sure that their old record company owns the rights to their songs.
When you put it like that, you may be right about them owing us. As for the other part, I am just saying that they probably aren't the only ones that can make those types of decisions. They were probably under a contract at that time that would prevent them from releasing the songs. By the way, I have been a huge fan of the spice girls since the 90s and would love to hear new/ unreleased songs from them. I am also still waiting on that reunion tour dvd that was supposedly made, but never released.

Jasmine Woww As an rnb music lover, I have to say Forever was my favorite Spice Girls album out of the 3. I totally agree w/ your point of comparison to tlc, destiny's child. I really think that was intentional for them to do. But lyrically, the 3rd album was also well-written.. and I actually thought the remaining 4 girls showcased more of their talents when Geri left. They were able to sing more lines, and dance or have more complex choreopraphy..
yes good points too, but geri sung very few lines like victoria did while mel c, emma and mel b always were the best singers and had the majorities of the vocals that were heard in solo parts in the songs so posh victoria does have more vocal solos now yes. The songs in the first two albums were perfect though and memorable and catchy, geri made them more interesting because of her wild side and personality, some of forever's songs come off thrown together because of mel c coming in later to record her vocals and some needed to be redone imo. Yes the album is great but it was too risky and did not grab many previous fans to buy it plus tlc and destiny child fans who may have not liked their sound did not know to pay attention in time of the sales and all for it to chart as high as spice and spice world. It is a shame and as i always say if they did release Woman as promised and did that as single 1 then holler well it would have hit number 1 and pleased all fans and then holler would be interesting and grab tlc and destinys child type of fans and then they should have released let love lead the way, then pain proof or give you what you want (if it's loving on your mind) and last should have been A day in your life or pain proof to keep it going in a strong way. I think they did this on purpose to do solos and do the family things

This is not the real reason why Geri left. Its clear they were approached and they refused to join the elites in the evil music industry.
Notice when Geri left, they started to have pyramids in their videos with symbolism and when they became a four they had this weird Egyptian cheography even when they performed right back at ya pop version in 99.
Geri thought if they sack their management it will stop but it didn't.
If you look at the Stop lyrics it's clear, and also Mel C Northern Star lyrics they give hints.
Geri was the oldest so it had to be her to walk away. This industry is run by evil industry and very satanic. People can turn a blind eye to it but its the truth.
This is why most groups don't last after two albums or something happens when it comes to the third album with most artists.
Look how many British artists tour America then problems happen or they split up.
Example Sugababes, Miss-Teeq, beatles and Spice Girls and more.
I can't believe she's still talking about this as if somebody cares. Her departure from the group happened 20 years ago and it gave her some publicity which wasn't enough to make her a respected solo artist. She was a little bug compared to the Spice Girls and her name on her own lasted less than a snowflake in summer. It didn't work Geri, take notes from your bandmates and turn the page.

@@charlycomments Ginger's short catalog is mediocre, terribly dated and way more than "forgettable" aka it's forgotten! She had a decent album at best period. Why bringing up Mel C to this? I see why, cause Mel C has done the best music quality wise so far and had the most success hands down. Clearly the most appreciated. Numbers don't lie: She's had the best selling hits and albums, the most versatile lyrical/music content and she's the most streamed too, in fact her last album reached the UK Top 10, every song exceeded the 1 million views on YT and she has more than 1 million listeners per month on Spotify. Hardly forgettable.
