  • Anything better than a landscape photography road trip in the Canadian Rockies? Today I pushed farther west here in Canada!

    On today's photography vlog, I made it to a place called Wells Gray Provincial Park. It's a landscape photographer's dream with all these beautiful waterfalls. And, it's usually pretty empty. It's definitely one of those "off the beaten path" photo locations you can still find here in Western Canada.

    Volcanic activity formed the underlying rock (basalt), not the waterfall. The waterfall and the canyon both lend their existence to massive floods at the end of the last ice age as the North American ice sheet retreated. (You're welcome! 😉) Awesome locations in your beautiful homeland!

    Great video! As far as sky replacements go, there is no right or wrong as far as being a purist or artist. As long as you’re being transparent about your work, to many people out lying about what their doing. I do appreciate all the planing that goes into a shot when it all works out, but I’m also an artist and if I can’t get back to that spot for many years to come I have no issues with replacing a sky. It’s seems like there’s always an ongoing battle going on between the two sides.. at the end of the day just do what makes you happy. Have a great day, dude!

    Definitely looks like some lava flows at Spahat. The vertical cracks that make up some of the layers are from contracting when the lava cooled. --your friendly geologist

    Drink coffee, eat a little beef or chicken or fish and then take a twenty minute nap. I like geology. So, lateral layers of land grabs me(before B. mentioned geology). There's a name for that. Strata. Huge rock layers extending into the sky is impressive. Pierced, is a great description. Gives you some idea how big the world is. As the strata rises there has to be an outlet for the water. That's how the Grand Canyon got made. You can spend all day watching, but you won't witness much erosion. We are here for a short time.

    Mount Robson is awesome. When I arrived there (back in 1997 when it already was 3954m ;)), it was blue afternoon skies with just a few clouds. I stayed at the campground there for the night before hiking up Berg Lake trail the next day and camped right above Emperor Falls. While the weather wasn‘t really good on that day and even worse on the next - I couldn‘t see much of Mount Robson on those two days -, that hike was among the best I ever did.

    • @BrendanvanSon
      @BrendanvanSon  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really wanted to get to Emperor Falls on this trip but the trail was closed beyond a certain point. I guess because they couldn't maintain it during the pandemic?

    • @haraldselke
      @haraldselke 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrendanvanSon That might be, Back then, there was a booking system as they only have limited numbers of campsites along the trail. You could always go on a day hike, but it would be a long day if you wanted to make it to Emperor Falls and back on the same day.

    I drove through the Rockies years ago 1994 I think I was traveling from Vancouver to Kelowna and it was amazing. It was April ... or maybe May ... lol it was my honeymoon for my first marriage ... so I can't remember! 😂 The weather was crazy I swear I saw all three seasons in one day from the warmth of Vancouver through to a raging blizzard through the Rockies. I saw massive Elk but no bears! I would love to return to actually shoot photographs now!

    Great video. I've only seen Helmecken Falls once, although it's only 2 hours from where I live. I flew over the falls in a helicopter for work and regardless of the other things I saw that day it was the flight of a lifetime. I do plan to get up there again soon and get my own pictures.

    Hey Brendan… what is that device that you are using to charge your Canon R battery with. I could see the Canon battery charger in the vid; which usually plugs into a wall outlet. You got me curious about using it in the car. Thanks! 👍👍👍

    Probably a blessing in disguise that you weren't able to fly your drone. The laws concerning drones have changed a LOT since you were home last including that you need a license to fly a drone now.
