"We wear different costumes till we're dead-/ but if you rip apart the fibers in your head/ you'll find we've all been woven/ from a single thread." -Lucien Zell That's the 'essential thread', in my opinion. And I don't think Brook has ever lost it. Perhaps in some pieces, the thread is more tangled than others. But the thread shines out for those unknotted enough to sense it.
Somewhere . . . at some time . . . Peter Brook somehow lost the essential thread of things. Hard to say now whether he was never really capable of realizing it . . . or whether he betrayed that capability.
@Brianjonestown The "essential thread" is just the nature of what underlies our everyday experience and connects it to its ultimate source, purpose, and meaning. Sometimes in his career . . . Brook seems to be intentionally cultivating that inner source. But other times . . . he seems to be distracted by outer forms that are only superficially & remotely connected to it. He doesn't appear to have the capacity to tell the difference. He doesn't seem to know what he's doing . . .

HAK LEK.
@greenrate Your grammar offends me. Especially when you are trying to sound clever.
@chelios58 Geeez. Why are you so easily offended? Do you go around looking to be offended?
