    Alissa's clean singing was just a matter of time,all fans have been wondering for years-will she actually use her clean voice? Granted,she sang a bit in one song from the previous album but now it seems she is going back to her roots and to the singing style she used while fronting The Agonist.Great stuff! Also,it was a bold move,I suspect that a lot of fans who would like AE to stick to the classic melodic death metal style will complain " it is not a melodic death anymore",etc. I am fucking glad it isn't, we have gotten three new tracks,each one totally different and I have a feeling that those three songs may herald the most diverse album in the entire AE catalog.

      I love tons of the cleans. The bridge was great! It fit the epic mood, the calm. 10/10! The gwen stefani ones in the chorus are without determination, without confidence, without fire (which the instrumentals behind support). I call those moments circle pit killers, and there are three of them. I understand that they're trying to attract a new audience. They sure deserve a larger audience. They did chorus cleans with Avalanche (2014) but Alissa never does them live. Or she did them for a year I think. Anyway 🤗, EVERYTHING else in Handshake is effing perfection! 🤘🔥

From how the singles are different from each other but still are connected, to this very song from how it's constructed but especially the cleans from Alissa. I love the second round of cleans damn near the cherry on top along with the solo. Handshake With Hell is epic, grand and more than worthy to be the album opener with that said I love all the singles equally this being a favorite a little seeing as it just came out and all. I’ve been waiting for her to use more cleans. Arch Enemy hasn’t ever been a band that has used much clean vocals in their songs. I think of a couple where she uses her cleans. But I feel like she is so talented and it is a waste to not use that side of her talent. All 3 of these new songs have some old school 80’s riffage going on. The chords used in the verse is straight up 80’s hard rock/ classic metal like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, skid row, and Motley Crue. It’s pretty fucking sick, I’m 80’s at my core.

      @@mikeh6286 & Fredde Don't know what the majority of metal you listen to these days but most metal before the 90's was clean singing not sure where the hell you guys have been for the last 50 years or so. Also AE has enough Braun in their arsenal in regard to guttural stuff it's time for something new and exciting like the brains (the cleans, different musical inspirations, song structures and lyrics that vary from the past or formula somewhat). It would be doing this song a huge disservice to only do it guttural. What's the point in having all that melody if you never fully utilize it beyond the one trick pony that their known for. I say Fredde here's some food for thought you say you're open to bands evolving but you're objecting AE for doing it and reasoning it for Angela. Which by the way she only does guttural which is why that is and wasn't exactly built for cleans. They have a much more expansive vocalist in their mits it's crime to not take advantage of that. And Mike I see you on very AE reaction comment section a heavier version of this isn't as impactful just holding back and not serving the music. As it is is perfect AE needed this because while I love their heavy stuff too it need some changeup to keep this thing fresh which is why everyone loves and holds nothing but the upmost praise for this era of AE.

Also the guys have been cranking out so much good that I feel they easily deserve the openmindedness. They should challenge the fanbase. When I talk about the heavy version I mean only the chorus cleans. (The bridge was very good.) If there's an instrumental it will give me a chance to get used to the original, in time. Right now the chrous is killing my vibe, but as I said I'll still keep listening, because they've earned it.

      Actually you're way off here Erick. First off this track still sounds AE through and through the power metal is in there a little but some much that can't tell it's AE at it's core. Also the Agonist comment maybe only in the vocal department which isn't a bad thing seeing as Alissa is a full on vocalist and not pigeonholed to one style. Jeff's riffs are great but Michael did a interview a long time ago saying Jeff style doesn't mesh within the writing process of AE but that could have changed a little in this era possibly who knows. And lastly those ex members left for a reason and you can't force someone back that wants to move forward just for the sake of appeasing you. Also fun fact Chris helped write House Of Mirrors and Angela is still involved with AE as a manager only though. So theirs your wish granted or at the least their involvement with AE as you're gonna get.

    • @mikeh6286
      @mikeh6286 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Amott is very smart. He made this the main gateway track (i think it might be). It's going to funnel new fans into the AE sound! Just like he did with Eagles and Reason to believe. Great songs but they don't represent their sound. Handshake has AE solos, AE heavy vocals and AE polished mixing, but the rest is really way out there.

      They do not sound Power Metal at all. Why do people automatically associate clean vocals with Power Metal?

  • @ArchieArpeggio
    @ArchieArpeggio 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is first time AE has clean vocals ever! So it is little difficult to swallow this. It´s just ain´t the AE style at all. Sure Alissa has great clean vocals as you propably know from her previous bands shes been in. But this is AE and they started the line with Johan. Carried on with Angela as leading exemple to the world that woman can growl too and now they lower them selves to same stage with dosens of other bands. Amorphis mixed clean and harch vocals already at Elegy album, was it 1993 (if i remember year correctly) so i have to say big no to this one.
    If this would´ve been song of some other band like March Enema, then it would be great. I could approve that. There´s nothing wrong with it except this ain´t AE style.

  • @Schlain666

    Arch Enemy died with Angela Gossow departure big time. They should've changed the name of the band because they don't sound anywhere remotely close to before. They are just schlager now.

      I agree that these No Doubt cleans in the chorus are a bit ridiculous. I understand that they're taking chances and challenge the fanbase. Sure they'll get a net gain in fans. But other than those I really like the track. I lean towards Angela too but I love Alissa doing all the tracks (with heavy vocals of course).

    • @mindtraveller100
      @mindtraveller100 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikeh6286 I like her clean voice, i just don´t think it fits very well in AE sound. Clean vocals in Melodic Death Metal can be done well, but not everyone can do it. And even when it is well done, you have to be carefull to not exaggerate.

    • @mikeh6286
      @mikeh6286 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mindtraveller100 Yes I like them too, but I'm talking in context of Arch Enemy. Keep it as heavy as possible. Throw in some eerie stuff like the first part of the bridge. Very good. The second half of the bridge, I can accept it as a hook for new listeners if they really want to push the envelope. It's like a longer Reason to Believe or something. The chorus, I had to edit that part out. Normally I'd just ignore the track but it's really good so it's a waste to ignore it. I'll see if I can upload my edits in a few weeks. There willl be a "will to power" edit of Handshake as well as a "war eternal" edit. A friend is trying to record a guitar track that we can mix in over the vocal-less clean chorus. To keep it interesting and to mask residual vocal removal artefacts. I've also halved the length of it. If you want to hear the current unfinished progress let me know.
