    I feel like it would be much safer to go with the closest size down from the max, than the closest size up. If your controller can only take 30 amps(36 max), but the breaker doesnt blow till it hits 40, the controller would already be fried. Seems like youre better finding the closest size down from 36, like a 32 or something like that, or your equipment blows before the fuse maxes out. Right?

    • @SurvivalLilly
      @SurvivalLilly  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      the solar charge controller briefl can put out more that 30 A. It also has internal protection so prevent damage at the inside. The inverter also can deliver more than 1000 Watts if you look in the manual. So for just a few seconds it is fine until the breaker breaks.

    Stay away from off brand breakers. That yellow breaker is junk. Go with Cooper Bussman.
    Speaking of Will, I'm pretty sure would recommend going 24 or likely 48v system. Cheaper to build due to reduced cable and lug size. 12v is fine for an RV, but I would go with at least 36v system for virtually anything else. 48v is better. It could present some dangers to the careless and uniformed types, but that's not you.

    • @SurvivalLilly
      @SurvivalLilly  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I have found that 24 Volts parts like inverters have become immensely expensive. In a crisis it would also be hard to find one. For me availability is more important than saving a couple of bucks on thinner wires.

    • @rtsrts2317
      @rtsrts2317 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SurvivalLilly True. I forget you're in Europe and that many things are more expensive and harder to get. But the breaker, I wouldn't skimp on. I've had two of those and both failed to properly break at the rated amperage. Over time, one would not even reset. Went with Buss brand breakers and never had a problem. It's been 10 years. My main 100amp resettable breaker is also the master disconnect for the system.
      Good job on the build otherwise 👍

    The job off the baker is to protect the wires. Of course it need to be sufficient with the load.
    In the charts we find the max current at serten temperature ,the cable can handle. The size of the brakes can be solve by the brakes carteristic.if it is type c the rool of thumb is 0.9 times max wire current.because it won't trip at his nominal current .so he need to be less .

    Hi Lilly, excellent video. My only suggestion would be to write an orderly Shut down and Start Up procedure for your unit. Reason being if a failure occurs it would give you or someone else a starting point. Even though its small compared to the UPS and units I have worked on. The reason if there are loads connected and turned on when the battery breaker is switched on, the surge could blow fuses or trip other breakers. Thanks for the detailed lesson on sizing breakers.

  • @michaeljohnson_ok
    @michaeljohnson_ok 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Very nice setup, Lilly! One more accessory you can add for protection is a solar panel relay. Many solar charge controllers can be damaged if the solar panels are connected while the battery is not. So, if the fuses on the battery happen to blow, the charge controller can be at risk. To my charge controller, on the wires coming from the battery terminals, I ran a couple wires to a relay. When there is battery power supplied to the controller, the relay will be on, with a negligible draw from the battery. The dc positive cable from the solar input then runs through the contacts of the relay. Then if the battery fuse blows, the solar is automatically disconnected, in theory, before damage to the charge controller occurs.

      Absolutely true. But I think my Epever MPPT can handle the current if the batteries are cut off. 👍

    A CAUTION: Inverters should be mounted horizontally NOT vertically. The internal fans are designed to have horizontal shafts so that the fan's bearings will last longer. If they are vertical the downward thrust of gravity will wear the lower bearing and may fail causing the inverter (or anything with cooling fans) to overheat and may start a fire. Check the instructions or the manufacturer.

    • @SurvivalLilly
      @SurvivalLilly  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is correct. But I didnt have the space to mount it horizontally. I will only use the inverter with smaller loads tough, so it doesn't get too hot.

    • @retiredteacher6289
      @retiredteacher6289 3 หลายเดือนก่อน
