    Nicely done. I am working on one now. I am taking a different path by putting the entire unit together and then painting outside to get rid of the seam lines. We shall see how it goes. Wish me luck!

    • @matthewgaston579
      @matthewgaston579 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark, 109's the green on his kit is not historically correct because the pilots did not like the bright green because it was to bright for them in the dark and it was to distracting for them so they made the cockpit a dark forest green

    • @matthewgaston579
      @matthewgaston579 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark, 109's also the wheel flaps are not supposed to be open because when the wheels come out the doors close really fast and it always looks like there closed

    Look for hobby shops near you and ask them about the model your buying and everything needed to get it together. Glue paint and all. We all as modelers had to start out at one time. Just have fun and enjoy the hobby . I have the old monogram kit. It's been painted a very sun faided Brown black

      I built the same model as a kid and even sanded down a bit on a section of the tire to simulate pressure from the weight of the plane. On lighter colored models,i would even simulate exhaust wear on the wings from the engines and weathering by smearing black marker,cigarette or firewood ash over them. Even put bullet holes in the planes body by heating up a needle or a pin and holding it with a needle nose pliers to poke into the fuselage to simulate battle scars.

    From personal experience Revell needs to up their game a bit. Built this kit years ago and it still hasn't changed. P-61 needs a ton of work to bring it up to snuff.

    This kit was first issued by Monogram in 1974 which is when I built my first one. The clear parts on the early issues were a much better fit. Its been issued for so many years that the molds aren't as good as they used to be. Interior green is correct for the crew areas. Gear bays hatch & interior of gear doors should be untinted yellow zinc cromate. The outboard flaps are correct, the inboard ones should look the same. National insignia goes in the top of the left (port) wing & the other is on the underside of the right (starboard). One comment was "where do the 3 soldiers go"?. They're ground crew so they go where you want them. Another comment was the green trim was wrong. The P-61 in the Air Force Museum in Dayton has the same green on it's cowl flaps, spinners & wing tips. Perhaps that's where your green trim idea came from. The museum's example is actually a P-61C. Its an impressive aircraft to walk under & around. All my comments aren't meant to criticize your build it's just to pass on some information. If you're new to modeling you did a good job on a not so easy kit. We learn by doing & help from others. Enjoy your hobby.

    Try gluing large parts together, then sand and fill if needed, and then pain them. Dont do part by part... glue whole sections and then paint. But, keep it up and have fun!

    That turned out really nice. Got a couple in my stash, but simply working on other projects. For those interested, A P-61 was found in the south pacific and brought back to the U.S. for COMPLETE restoration. LOTS of before & after photos for detailing nuts. Have to agree with previous comment made by PasswordB: the whole video was a bit too fast. There might be a few areas for such fast speeds like cutting & filing the parts. But in the whole, I believe it was a good model.

    How many fishing weights should i put into this bad boys nose to sit on all three wheels? not having a repeat of my b-57.

    • @jpatt1000
      @jpatt1000 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Look up Terry Dean weights. He molds lead weights for many kits and they work like a dream, especially on glass nosed bombers! I used a set on my 1/48 B-29. Two weights, one on each side of the nose gear well were just enough to keep the nose gear on the ground. I would even say it was balanced in the same place as the real deal. Did you build the Airfix B-57? I goofed up on mine balancing it and had to add a lead floor under the ejection seats!

    • @EpicSmileyMan64
      @EpicSmileyMan64 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My B-57 was an Italeri/testors kit. I generally finished the build part a while ago but recently i tried to put the stickers on and i don't know if i left them in the light to long or if this kits stickers were garbage but they were hard to get off and when they did they melted at my finger tips. So i never 100% completed my B-57 but it looks good on display never the less. For one of my first models i didn't do bad. Now for the weights, i gave up on that tactic and made my own, now i get the clear sprues that hold the canopy pieces together and make a stick that holds up the tail, way easier than the weights are application wise. Thanks for the suggestion however!

    • @rochat

      I have multiple glues I use, but if I had to start over on a budget, I would buy Tamiya Extra Thin (green cap) and a bottle of white PVA (school glue). The Tamiya Extra Thin is not applied like normal glues and is actually a cement. You basically stick two pieces of plastic together and touch the joining seam with the cement brush and it gets sucked into the seam and dries pretty quickly. It's also one of these easiest and cleanest looking results even for a beginner. Do a youtube search on it and you'll see it in action. The school glue is great for clear parts because it dries clear and doesn't damage or fog the clear plastic like a lot of cements and glues do.
      If you have a few extra dollars after that, regular Tamiya Cement (white or orange cap) is good to have as it is thicker than Extra Thin and doesnt dry as quickly which means you have more time to set parts if needed. Unlike the extra thin, you apply it to the parts first and then stick them together. The next would be CA glue (super glue) for gluing painted parts.
      There's more glues still, but that's just the basics and then some. Just generally stay away from model tube glue as it's messy and not as strong as a good cement. The Tamiya glues can be purchased at any hobby shop local or online and then there are sites like Amazon. I like to get my PVA and CA glue from the dollar stores because its cheap, but and hardware or stationary store will have them.
