My kid has flat out said he doesn't want to be on TH-cam. I respect that to an extent. Aside for maybe appearing in some b-roll. He is never asked to perform or be on camera. I Go out of my way to keep him off. Typically he just ends up getting in the way of a shot and I have to use it. But my content doesn't depend on him being a part of it.
Great video! I have a newer YT channel where my 5-year-old and I go fishing. This is based on A. I do fishing instruction for a living, B. with the days of photo albums gone by I want to have a record of the great time he and I are having, and C. yeah sure it would be great if we had success, and I was able to help make his life more financially stable. That said, he's 5. Sometimes he doesn't want to film, and I won't make him. Heck, even we do film, sometimes he doesn't want to fish. So, we just do other stuff. He's growing and learning from the experience, but if it isn't fun we're not gonna do it. We also keep it compartmentalized. We film our fishing trips. Period. His mom and I have set a firm boundary that we want privacy in our life and don't want everything on film. We also try to keep it relatively unscripted other than outros and intros. Even then, he has freedom to say whatever, and any "retakes" are because I get tongue tied, and he and I find it funny. I hope and pray we keep doing for the right reasons, and if that ever changes, I hope I see it happening and stop. Thanks for the video.
8:08 I agree...but here's a twist. I grew up in a family business. And I was basically forced into the business because I didn't know any better. My entire relationship with my family and my parents was centred around work. All we did was work. As a result I eventually began to resent the work and my parents and my family. So this issue isn't just a TH-cam problem. It's a problem that began long before TH-cam and it's unlikely it will ever change. Especially when you consider that the middle class in first world countries is disappearing. And most of the people in the world live in third world countries where everyone is poor and they spend all day just trying to survive. Sadly, all relationships in human life revolve around work and money. What is happening with family content on TH-cam is actually quite normal. Child labour was normal in America until quite recently. And I suspect we will be regressing to those times in the near future.
I think the thing that makes this harder is that a lot of the parents are ego driven, and the content lives forever. Kids will always be reminded of the stuff their parents put them through.
Your content is so underrated Uncle Raf! I hope you start getting the views you deserve soon! Keep it up 💪
Thank you! 🙏
