I just now subscribed. I'm age 21 and did gymnastics for 14 years through age 18. From age 13 I was more or less raising myself and needed to make money for gymnastics academy fees. And that got me into helping with remodeling for a property management company. I stuck with the job when I could. I got into full time construction at age 20 and love it. I see in this video a lot of "American" ways of doing the drywalling. I love your remodeling projects. Wish I could be there to help.
It's so satisfying to watch something being built and refreshed! Thank you for these videos. You are doing a great job all around: from the investments to the savings, to the coop situation with your brother. I love your videos, and I think you're a very smart man.
I’m watching another channel, also, of a couple who bought a stone cottage on a Scottish Isle. They are definitely struggling with the moisture issues. It looks to me like you are making the right choices with insulation and drywall. Thanks for sharing! ~Dana
I like your calm, open and transparent commentary, I watched your video from start to finish. As far as covering the stone goes, this is your home and you can do whatever you want with it. I would cover the stone too, to feel cozy and comfortable. Also, a youtube comment lasts only a second and is forgotten, you live in your home for the foreseeable future. You did good!
Sean Paul is a beast! You got yourself a great contractor/joiner! What a glorious space transformation! Like your tiny house, it's gratifying to watch!
This is genuinely one of my favourite comfort channels, not only is the actual content and substance really interesting but the way George edits and tells a story with his content is something else.
Living in Canada, and enjoying stone architecture, I can totally agree about insulation. It would be nice to have bare stone walls, but in Winter, it would literally kill people. They would be Canuck-sicles. The place looks great. Enjoying the short update videos.
Piggybacking on your comment - I live in Scotland and it’s a pretty dumb take to suggest that he should have left the walls bare. Not only would it be unliveable but to try and heat the place would be suuuper expensive. One of the biggest energy efficiency challenges in the U.K. is that so many houses here are really old and not properly insulated but installing adequate new insulation is expensive and would require destroying some period features (old fireplaces or plasterwork cornicing). It’s a big task but totally essential to meet carbon reduction goals. By taking two old properties and renovating them to modern liveable standards, George is actually helping contribute to environmental efficiency in Scotland 💙
I am 100% here for a 10 hour video. This may sound strange but I find your videos so calming and relaxing and I don’t really sleep much, so something that long, I could watch for hours and really chill out to! Loving this series too
Hi George, well I could sit here and watch Sean Paul and his apprentices work all day long. They are just so "efficient" and work well together as a team. They are a well oiled machine, so to speak. I love these transformation videos. I've been into the garden renos, the patio cleanings, yard mowing videos for awhile now. Along with your channel as well. Hope you and Junior are well. Happy Sunday from Montreal. Kudos to Sean Paul and his helpers !!
Hi George, New subscriber, 60 year old American granny here. Randomly came across your channel. As an American I’m 100% for a constitutional representative government and capitalism, so don’t mind haters who are jealous of your enterprise. I’m sure your parents are proud of you, as they should be. There will always those who will criticize you, unfortunately that’s the nature of social media. They are free to have their opinion and you are free to live your life as you see fit. Best wishes for your renovations, looking forward to your videos. Thanks for sharing your life so honestly. Much ❤ loving support from Indiana.
Hi George!! You don't owe the haters anything!! They aren't paying for your home or it's renovations! You have done your due diligence & work things out with your brother. You have people hating on you because you've made some very smart decisions & have done well for yourself at a young age. Until the haters are paying your bills, living your life &/or signing your paychecks, don't give them the time of day!!!!!!!!!!! Hugs & Tugs from Ohio USA!
I needed to mention it haha. Was honestly quite surprised at the vitriol I received for that on the tiny house video, so it's sometimes worth highlighting these things.
Great work as always, George! And yes, having been to Scotland a number of times, and also having lived in the North of Ireland right across the way, I can attest to its being very COLD and DAMP many months out of the year! The idea of leaving the walls plain rock and not insulating -- I'm shivering at the very thought! Yikes. That would have led to black mold, illness, condensation, hypothermia -- you name it. Of Course you have to insulate! If there is one small space somewhere in the house where you can leave the rocks showing, that would be great, but only as a small design feature -- not as a way to live! Holy geez. And I love the idea of the 10-hour video showing the whole process. Nice one! 😊👍 Keep up the great work!
Honestly George, I wish I'd have had half the savvy that you have about life, finances and houses - you are an inspiration to all ages and I am ancient. Thanks for this video and all the others.
Your decision to cover up the stone walls totally makes sense to me! Those stone walls are the most incredible foundation for a sturdy home you could ask for! Sturdy foundation + insulation and comfortable finishings = a perfect match.
Your new home is looking so beautiful. Who wouldn't insulate their home? I like being warm, not losing heat out of my home, and keeping my heating expenses down. So insulate! LOL
I absolutely agree with your need to cover up stone walls and insulate, insulate, insulate! Try living in a black house nowadays. Love your videos and your honesty.
I know you are joking about the spf but we did end up putting a film on the outside of our skylights because the skylight over our kitchen island essentially became a heat lamp. It makes a huge difference.
@@112Haribo The joke is he needs 1000 spf because he is so pale so the sunlight exposure is not his friend. For us, the skylights let in a lot of heat so we put a film on that kept the heat from coming through. Depending on the quality of glass and thickness, he may not need to do that.
The narration and details you are giving us, it’s very well explained and honest. Plus, you are talking to us like we are friends that you can trust! I am very happy for your blessings and glad you are being responsible to save some money for your next tax bill. 🤗💙
I'm from Ireland and can confirm this insulation is essential, we have to do it in this part of the world to survive the harsh winters we get which are only getting worse with climate change, a problem that this insulation helps to resolve by requiring less energy to heat. No point protecting these beautiful walls if the planet it uninhabitable to enjoy them! Fair play George you're smashing it already in life! 👏
About the "character of stone walls" criticism. I lived in a house in Scotland with an exposed stone wall and it was ASTRONOMICALLY EXPENSIVE to heat -- and was still damp and cold. And that was one stone wall, not the whole house. You did right to insulate and cover them. Looks great too.
I sympathize with the sentiment of those who, like the exposed stone walls, as they are quite beautiful. However, they have likely never lived in a cold climate with no insulation in their home, lol. As a young adult, I read many books about princesses living in castles in Scotland, and I always wondered how they stayed warm! Regardless of the practicalities involved, that room looks so comfy and cozy with the drywall everywhere. It is so bright and cheerful! 👍👍😄
Videos like this make my heart ache. To think a family several hundred years ago loved this home and once again it's being lived in and loved. They say places take on the personality of those who live there and I can't wait to see how you and the house get on
i love the transparency :) as a home owner and hoping to own and renovate my own house in the future...cost is a huge factor. Having a family member to share the cost with and be able to operate a rental space is almost essential! There's a difference between offering a rental that was a home and property for yourself and the massive companies that buy and rent out units in apartment buildings for big profits...the original spirit of airbnb was to rent out a 'home'. a lived in space where care and hard work has been put in :) its wonderful that you can do this in your home town as well.
Having grown up on Tyneside and spent most of my adult life in Alberta, I applaud your insulation, the more the better! I love an old stone wall as much as anyone but they aren't good to lean on when the north winds blow. Enjoy the aesthetics on the outside, but keep yourself cosy indoors. 😊👍
You took a dungeony looking space to a beautiful airy living space - which would've decayed if not transformed into the swan that it is now, so -- enjoy your new living space and let the negative comments roll down the recently retiled roof. Whatever length of video you decide to put out will be appreciated and enjoyed by tons of us and hopefully will help with that scary tax bill. The Dunnett Bros business plan is a great one - no outsider input needed. Lastly, the renovation team makes it look so easy and almost like a dance on how they move getting the job done - love it.
I lived in a listed stone cottage in Dorset last winter and I've never been so cold in my whole life. It was so grim I bought bubble wrap for the windows, a foil underblanket for my dog and left the door to the airing cupboard open for extra heat upstairs 🥶
Looking forward to the 10 hour video, seriously. And thank you for telling us about YTs longer format. The room is going to lovely, especially in the winter. All that nice sunshine will keep Seasonal Affective Disorder away. SAD is a real thing, I had it after moving from Florida to Maine. It's one of the reasons I moved back to Florida. I really enjoyed it. Can't wait to see the next phases ! ❤ PS : the natural liiiight. So beautiful and bright. ☀️☀️☀️
Thanks for this latest update George, the new place is coming on really well and I love the idea of the complete renovation being available when the work is complete. I really enjoy your videos they are so chilled and wholesome.
I can tell that the house is going to look great! As far as moving in and finish the rooms one by one, I can tell you that this is actually how most new home owners do it. Like, no room is completely finished (the way you want it) right when you move in. Hell, we moved into our house four years ago and we still have no guest room and luckily our second child is only 7 months old, cause his future room doesn't even have windows yet😅 Good luck with everything 🍀
I'm from Scotland and can confirm what George is saying about damp issues. My landlord ran himself a huge bill last year by not insulating properly thus leading to damp and mould issues which had to be repaired and wasn't a small fix.
Looking well, George!! Developing well!! Looking forward to seeing the whole thing come together. This time next year won't be long coming and we'll be watching whatever you'll be doing in your (and your brothers) completed house!! (Probably developing George's Sunscreen for Scottish folk. Sun factor a gazillion lol)
I always appreciate your videos for so many reasons, one of them is that I recognize you're adding value to your community by renovating these old unusable spaces into lovely updated homes.
So interesting to note the similarity of structure, materials and age to old Cumbrian buildings - I'm Cumbrian btw! And it's going to be a beautiful finish. ❤ Hannah.
I’m thinking back to the video of the stream running beside this property, talking about rats and bats and not knowing if you’d be able to move forward. Your plans are well laid out and I’m excited to see the next 4,500 videos.
You and your brother are amazing! Hard-working, responsible, and enterprising! Your parents must be so proud! Kudos to you both, I love your channel! 👍🏻😃👏🏻
I don't understand the people who are complaining about the walls they're still visible outside which is where they're supposed to be visible from anyways. This room is going to be so nice when it's done.
I’ve gotten so when I see you’ve released a video I check yours before any other. One of the reasons for this is your calming voice. Another is your humor. I’ve had to back up the video a few times to make sure I heard what I thought I heard and then I laugh my a$$ off. I also appreciate how open you have been. Being vulnerable is difficult since people can be so critical and judgmental rather than supportive and cheerleaders! You and your content are appreciated. Keep it up and thank you for sharing yourself with all of us.
Love your videos, George, both the content and commentary. I enjoy how articulate you are and your humor. Looking forward to your updates and future projects. 😊
Amazing transformation seen here from dark and gloomy to light & bright with plasterboard finish, masses of natural light and new appropriate white double glazed French/patio doors. The new rigid insulation will keep the interior warm in winter and cool in summer, helps with acoustics and sound insulation too, energy is expensive in Britain, winters can be long and damp, so high performance insulation is worthwhile and essential.
What a great transformation! It is now so bright and light. There will always be someone to criticize. As someone who has lived in colder climate, Insulations is vital.
Hey George, not entirely sure of the tax differences between England and Scotland, but I would definitely recommend you speaking to a tax advisor about setting up a LTD Co for your TH-cam business… it’s really not efficient to be taking your income all in your personal name. Most TH-camrs start that way, but notice significant improvements when they divert at your financial stage.
It’s beautiful space George! As a retired architect myself, unfamiliar with these stone buildings, I would be very curious to see the detail of how the stone wall windows were finished out. Framing, insulation application, vapour barrier, and sheetrock. Was the insulation board glued to the stone? A video would be great! All the best to you!
It looks amazing. Understand not wanting to cover the stone walls but imagine living with it. So cold and damp! I think it woud be fun to camp out in the lounge for a few months if you have to.
Good to see the progress being made with this project. It's really cool that you get on with your brother well enough that you would consider going into this arrangement with him. Having lived in a home during a major renovation, I can't recommend staying in your new home until the work is complete. If your parents are able to put you up for the intervening time, I think that would be the better option. Living in a partial building site is no fun at all.
Thanks for sharing this journey with us! I live in Edinburgh, and can confirm Scottish winters are cold, wet & windy so good insulation is an absolute must 🙂
You've got the beautiful stone walls outside to look at but you want warm and cosy and dust free inside, the best of both worlds IMO. Sean Paul and his team look like pros. Can't wait to see more.
What a difference, the team working on this are fantastic, keep posting their name, they deserve it. Your commentary as usual is relaxing and open. Such a pleasure to watch.
Dear George, the kind of people who will call you a piece of capitalist %#^ are not the kind of people whose opinions you should value or acknowledge. Hope you are able to ignore that nonsense! Love your videos and your humor and Junior!
Love your videos George and you do not need to explain yourself to anyone! Great to have such an efficient, reliable team working on your house - looking forward to future videos. All the best.
Fantastic watching real tradespersons at work. Great to see that Sean-Paul is still working with a prior apprentice and has a new one learning valuable skills. The transformation process is great and you're capturing it perfectly. Thanks George !!

It’s so nice how the framing and insulating led to the deep set windows. Lovely.
Love your videos, George, both the content and commentary. I enjoy how articulate you are and your humor. Looking forward to your updates and future projects. 😊
I enjoy everything you create, George.
Omg the vibes changed a lot and looks beautiful. Shout-out to you and the joiners!
Looking great! Hope it continues to run smoothly and you'll be in here in no time! - Darryn
Wow! What a transformation!
Interesting to see the skills and work involved.
Looking great, George. And about the suggested looooooong video...my vote would be yes, Yes, YES!
Wow so bright and airy, looking great.
These blokes look very professional.
I'm enjoying the renovation.
Glad to hear it!
I love stone…. on the outside. It’s certainly better to be warm and cosy and to have straight walls for all the cabinets etc.
I was so happy to see that George D. Uploaded a new video. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful and unique journey with us. It’s looking great
Haha glad to have you watching. Plenty more to come!
I love watching it all come together xx
Me too! Really pleased with it.
I love your positive spirit on a Sunday. THX!
Haha thanks Alex!
What a great transformation! It is now so bright and light. There will always be someone to criticize. As someone who has lived in colder climate, Insulations is vital.
I’ve been so looking forward to this video coming out. Thanks George. I can’t wait until you can move in. Very happy for you.
I live in Edinburgh, and can confirm Scottish winters are cold, wet & windy so good insulation is an absolute must 🙂
Always enjoyable. Thanks for the update
Thanks for watching!
I love the brightness! It looks great.
You've got the beautiful stone walls outside to look at but you want warm and cosy and dust free inside, the best of both worlds IMO.
Sean Paul and his team look like pros. Can't wait to see more.
That's starting to look so good!
Brilliant video! those joiners are true professionals and so awesome to watch 👍 love to watch transformations like this, your videos are superb 😎👍
Thanks for the upload! I binged the rest of it yesterday, can’t wait to watch this one:)
Appreciate you watching! More to come soon. :)
Hi George 😊. I love your honesty, you're a good person. I also love home renovations, so I can't wait to see it finished 🤩.
You are very wise in your approach to all this, as well as your brother. Good for you, and keep doing this approach.
Fantastic watching real tradespersons at work. Great to see that Sean-Paul is still working with a prior apprentice and has a new one learning valuable skills. The transformation process is great and you're capturing it perfectly. Thanks George !!
Also I love that your one vice is renovating property ❤❤
Lovely, lovely, lovely to see a new video. Thanks so much and continued success. Give my love to Junior.
Thank you! And will do!
