Only just watched this now and surprising how similar our drafts and thinking are. Discussed very similar points on the FPL Sidenet podcast last night.
Good content. Your reasoning is sound. I wildcarded last week and did bring in Salah because of him as a captaincy option next few gws but he looks like more or a creator now than goal threat. Diaz could easily haul himself.
This is a great video. Yours is the first wildcard team I've seen with Robertson, Diaz and Raya - all great picks I think. Hope you've got a sofa to hide behind when Salah plays his next few fixtures....
It's difficult to fit them all in... Trippier, Salah, Son, Haaland and Watkins all high on the priority list. Judging only by the fixtures, it's Haaland who should be dropped over Salah but not sure I can do that...
Definitely don't skip and listen! I've wildcarded Salah in, because 2/3 transfers can get those other fixture swing players in when Liverpools fixture swing stops by selling Salah.
managed to bring in watkins on my wc for gw 7. I made some mistakes tho by going differential with Gibbs-whtie. One thing I think is crucial is bring players in early. I got JWP and Bowen, if you are going to WC now, don't ignore fixtures that are +1 or +2 gws out. It's criminal to leave one of these west ham attackers out for those fixtures. plus there is more than a good likelihood westham players return the goods playing at home against newcastle. This wc draft is defensively heavy hitting and middling in the midfield. I'm not sure how to justify it outside of 1 gameweek.. I've seen about 3-4 wildcard drafts, the funny thing is most people say they are not knee jerking and then they have 3 villa players. it's absolute recency bias in action. Tripper, has created an outlier scenario of returning 18 then 12 points. It's the equivalent of hitting red on roulette 10 times in a row, (it's not a common occurence). Also I think every team needs 1 or 2 differential picks but Diaz does not fill me with confidence based on historical performance. Eze at this point is more differential than Diaz (with lower ownership) and better potential.
All good points. I'm not convinced I'll go with Diaby, but he is a nice price with good fixtures in the short-term. Watkins and Cash seem sensible pics based on their stats and upcoming fixtures. You make a great point re ensuring your WC is set up for GW 10 and beyond. I think Bowen or Estupinan will find their way into the team somehow in preparation for GW 10.
Hey super fresh take on the wild card without Salah. 👀 I am on the fence and considering no Salah WC this week.. but it is super hard to go without him. Though if I have Salah in, I have no Trippier, a super weak bench, and a tough path to potentially bring Saka or Fernandes or Mitoma post GW 10. It's a bold move, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off.
haha love the dodgeball quote! Looking at the fixtures, it's Haaland who should be dropped over Salah but not sure I'm brave enough for that... We can't fit them all in and sacrifices will have to be made - we have to make our peace with that
Don't mind it Ryan. But if going without Salah a non-negotiable would be Saka. The majority of those wildcarding right now don't have him or an appealing way to get him in for GW10 when he looks a must - it would take selling Son/Salah or having enough ITB to go Madders up. And Robbo and Trippier? I'd rather Bowen than Gordon (I'd actually rather Bowen than Diaby, and I'm a Villa fan!) and fund it with downgrading Robbo. You've got Trippier covering price point that could be Robbo if he's delivering. And he hasn't been - even with Trent out who's back now. But that Pool run is hard to ignore so could be great shout.
I think Saka is a good pic but he has City then Chelsea. My plan is Son to Saka in GW 10 for SHU at home. I rate your Bowen shout. It's unfortunate he has Newcastle and Villa in the next two but from GW 10 Bowen's fixtures are great. Surprised to hear your opinion on Diaby. Why don't you rate him so highly?
Yip, those immediate fixtures aren't ideal for Saka but he's as good as fixture proof, guaranteed to play if he can get out of bed, and I wouldn't have the cojones to go without both him and Salah. I feel very exposed without any Arsenal and one of Saka/Odegaard would be in any non-Salah WC team if I was doing one this week. On Diaby. As a Villa man, obviously delighted the club got him and he's looking an exciting addition. But you're almost totally reliant on open play returns from him. Reflected in his xGI which is below even the likes of Rodri (on less mins) and Paqueta. Bowen however is close to talismanic for WHU, xGI up there beyond Madders, Rashford, Son for goodness sake! He's no1 in the game for 'threat' above Salah/Saka! And thats even with a pretty mixed bag of fixtures so far. Could even be on pens (although Benrahma/Paqueta ahead probably). Plays every minute. He's just a proven handful with JWP providing ammo and nice fixtures for rest of the year after the next two. Villa also very indifferent away from home. I never know what to expect from them. Not trying to put you off Diaby, just tempering the seemingly universal consensus he's must have. I can't find any metric that justifies that. Historically he's a 1 in 4 man and that's consistent with his time at Villa so far.
G'day Pippo 👍 As a Liverpool fan I fully expect Robbo to drop back in the 3 when Trent returns. So you're right there. He's also the worst finisher at the club. Hard avoid for me but interesting shout
@@BetterFPL they're too many good mids that offer value the likes of son maddison ward prowse diaby etc with the fixtures villa have, also there are only two liverpool assets that u can really consider trent & salah & fpl is about value not player names or hype trippier is good but burn & botman were better as they are cheaper & are in a good newcastle defence from gw 9 liverpool have some great fixtures u could still tap into newcastle defence with botman or burn so thats why im going trent instead of trippier & trent will be a huge differential by then. botman injury messed up my plan but i rushed it i should have bought burn instead to catch those clean sheet pts
Interesting no Salah draft! He doesn’t come across so essential if your plan is to permanently captain haaland + when Darwin plays his returns are more limited as he looks more of a wide player than a forward
Exactly. I don't wish an injury on Gakpo but if he's out for longer than expected, Darwin could be a good short-term punt. I just think sacrifices have to be made so I need to make my peace with going without either Trippier, Haaland or Salah
@@BetterFPL I don't think grealish starts over Doku Maybe Doku is moved over to the right but I just can't see pep putting someone who brings dynamism to the team on the bench
Let’s try and hit 75 likes!!! Let me know what you think of the team 🙌

Yeah, I think there's a chance Diaz gets close to Salah and the weeks where I'd captain Salah maybe I could captain Saka, Son or Haaland

Some big calls! Really like Diaby but have stuck with Mo since GW1, just can’t let him go mate!!
Agree. I'd keep him if I were you. Do you have Trippier?
Yes brought in trippier & Bowen for saliba & saka for a hit last week - hopefully that will pay off going forward 👍🏻

Thoughts on Bowen or JWP instead of Diaz? I feel like his minutes aren't nailed.

Do you see Diaz as the 2nd best Liverpool attacker?
@@BetterFPL Probably for minutes but Darwin for points.
i brought in robertson against wolves got an 11pts haul from him but he is a place holder for trent gw 9 i got a bit unlucky with the botman injury

I’m more and more tempted to go without Salah too 👀
It’s scary! Are you trying to fit Salah, Haaland and Salah all in or have you decided to cut one?
