Just do it. Yeah, sometimes we feel we know better just because we've been so intensely involved with our research topic. Haha. Though of course our supervisor is more experienced and he does his best to guide us. So, just do it. It makes our life easier. Yes, I think I totally agree with you :)

It depends on the country, but in most there is no minimum requirement. Typically people take 4-5 years to finish. In most countries a master's is required, but in some, like in the UK, there are universities which do not require it
