    I accidentally found an open box at Music Direct and had to try this one. For some reason JBL just excels in sound reproduction and have mastered the waveguide that almost everyone else overlooks. I have other nice speakers but they do not spread wide like these do. As soon as I heard this pair a quickly bought a second pair. The sound stage is extravagantly lush and broad and if I feel like the band and singer is in my room that's all I need to experience. I have a theory about towers. I can stack 2 or 3 bookshelf speakers and make a custom tower that kills all single entity tower. Because I can have many type tweeters and drivers, brands, signatures and point in different directions, interchange them , A/B/C them etc. Why buy a tower because then you're stuck with that tower? The bookshelf is just smarter, more versatile, more fun and less expensive generally. My amp can drives 3 pairs so that's not an issue. I'm not interested in a tower.

    nice, too bad the darn things are $2k, clearly JBL is jacking up the $$$ in hopes that the name will help in ripping off anyone dumb enough to actually buy bookshelf's for the same price that anyone could get great towers for, hmmm noooo thanks! jbl, smh

    The 87db efficiency really hurts it, IMO.

      Relayer6a, we asked principle designer An Nguyen, and Harman's Global Technical Sales Director Chris Robinson for a comment to your post, and here's what they had to say: "We are actually quite proud of the 87dB efficiency of the 4309. Any speaker design is a design choice between size, efficiency and bass extension. We know through our research that bass accounts for over 30% of how people perceive good sound and we make sure that each design has a good balance. The 4309 has superb bass down to 42Hz with high power handling which is exceptional for a speaker of its size. For a speaker with a 6.5” woofer, its 2dB more efficient than other designs of similar size. The result, is a well-balanced speaker system with great detail, bass and good efficiency in a system that also exhibits effortless dynamics." - Bes Nievera/Music Direct Brand Ambassador

      @@MusicDirectChicago I'm not saying that the compromise of efficiency vs frequency response wasn't necessary. I understand that. I used to own a pair of Celestian SL 6S. Also very inefficient but with real good overall sound quality. In the end that was what made me move on from them.
      Thanks for taking your time to look into it and responding though.

    How does this JBL 4309 to the 4306?

    • @MusicDirectChicago
      @MusicDirectChicago  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're asking about comparisons between each other, start with the HF compression drivers and mated horns; the 4309's Annular Ring design is an excellent mate to the speaker's HDI - engineered horn for remarkable detail, but ditto the 4306's Aluminum horn for a wide soundstage and crisp presentation. Bass performance? Well, if you need a deeper mid-bass response, opt for the 4306, but the 4309 is no slouch either as it yields a nice punch to the music listening experience for a Studio Monitor. 4309 for the win in flexibility if you desire bi-wire speaker operation. - Bes Nievera/Music Direct Brand Ambassador
