This is terrific content. You and Alex Bromley are such underrated channels with incredibly helpful, straight-to-the-point content. So much noise out there in the fitness community that it's hard to tell what's helpful and what's fluff. Thanks taking the time to put theory into practice, can't wait for the next two experiments.

I really need to start stretching regularly. Doing some stretching after workout doesn't feel enough. And being same age as you, with nagging pains from different sports and poor approach to recovery when I was younger, it is good to hear first hand experience from someone who's as old as me. Can't relate to opinions of 20 year olds. Thank you for all your videos and advices. Every time I learn something new, or some stuff I heard before make sense with your explanation.

Very cool, when you do greasing the groove work on pull ups, would definitely be worth doing likewise with L-Sit/core compression work, as that seems to respond really well to frequency

exactly man! i do stretching years! you will be more flexible after some time and usually you will not need so much time. streatching is first thing i do after wake up (after hygiene) and i stretch before training sessions, especially those at home. after while you will need less time on daily bases, it will trigger subconsciously. just time to time or once a week you can do some dedicated stretching "session" to go deeper. stretching is important part of routine. you should be able to do it even if you will be sick or old. in older age could be stretching and walk bread and butter of your overall physical activity and some exercise or cardio will be just cherry on the top...

Great concept Brian, definitely looking forward to more of these videos.
As part of the 50+ crowd, and as someone who trains first thing in the morning, I find stretching (at home) very helpful. Yes, super time consuming, but I am ready to train the moment I step into the gym. Without stretching, I am tight and have limited range of motion (especially with my left shoulder). I do various stretches, including some of the exercises you suggested for improving my front rack position. After about 25 minutes of stretching, I have great range of motion, improved front rack position, and feel I am much less prone to injury.

28 days of walking 10 kilometers. I did 30 days last year as a challenge and it was a tough but very rewarding experience. Before i had low back pain, and my feet always hurt when i got out of bed and had for two years prior. Both gone after 30 days. Granted i had some blisters that were turning, but nothing that hindered my daily life.

I agree totally! Even as a younger guy, stretching is something I've been neglecting for a few years now, only dedicating myself to weightlifting. I went from almost being able to do splits and throwing my leg behind my head freely to becoming this stiff rigid mess, it feels like my own body constricts me if that makes sense. Dexterity is definitely a thing that's very nice to have, and now it's clear why.

I'm going to replicate your experiment. I'm into my forties now, and over the past year I've been really sedentary; hardly lifting, not cycling as much I use to etc. I feel beat and just worn out these days. Between family life and work (both of which I'm hugely thankful for and harbor no resentment about) I'm not looking after myself. I've been thinking about doing daily stretches but have been procrastinating about looking for a routine. No excuse now. I'm going to give your routine a go before I hit the sack tonight. Thanks for the great video and inspiration, Brian.
    P.S.
If you have the time, a video on upper body stretches too would be awesome.

I skip BJJ this month because of a recrudescing slipping rib injury. It's no longer so bad that I can't train, I just can't roll, so I'm back to lifting a lot, but now I'm also stretching a lot after each session and I feel great. Doing 2-3 heavy deadlift sessions a week mixed with kettlebell stuff, weighted pullups and shoulder stuff and my recovery is just miles better than what it used to be without extensive stretching. I hope to get back to rolling and join some competitions as soon as my rib stabilizes, and I really want to get back to it stronger, and maybe even a bit more flexible :)

Well. For myself, I had a back i jury around 7 yrs ago. I had really bad spasms in my low back after a deadlift. I could barely move, when I did, the spasms hit and it was painful. It got better. It was a psychological hit though. For a year I didnt deadlift or squat. Then I experimented with trapbar deads. Anyway, in those 7 yrs, stretching has become a regular. After every gym session, I stretch my legs and back. My classic deadlift has dramatically improved. A week ago at age 50 I rack pulled 440 pounds. I can also dead 375 pounds and push a sled loaded wirh 308 pounds 5 times. Stretching has helped my athleticism and strength.

How do you people NOT stretch after your workouts especially legs… if I don’t stretch my hamstrings or calves after leg day.. OHMYGOD crazy tightness in calves and hamstrings would just be so tight that it becomes irritating.

You just get a very light weight, around 15%1RM, touch the end of the bar to the ground, depend on the same side for a [deep] squat. Also, you know wim hoff is working if you have a inchworm effect inside the muscle. I discovered something similar trying some supposedly MKULTRA Remote Viewing prerequisites.

What's funny is that recent research can now back up that stretching does in fact induce hypertrophic adaptations.

Building strength in the stretched position is the key to long term flexibility….that’s what I learned…it don’t have to be heavy loads and honestly should be light ….build strength slowly in that stretched position and the mobility stays stretch loosely and a few days latter you go right back to where you were mobility wise…also funny you mention soreness I found that if you got sore too many days in a row you got tighter but if you take a day or two off and get right back to it than I always found a PR mobility wise….so I found go ham for a few days in a row than break after soreness gets like Doms. ,then repeat to be the most efficient approach…….I actually have been doing this for years now and can do a SOTS Press with near perfect form even after having had shoulder surgery 2yrs ago

In regards to the strongman powerbuilding program for sale on your site, it states you must have a variety of equipment and goes on to list some implements you'd want to have.
I have farmers handles, hex bar, olympic and power bars, loadable hussafell stone, home made sand bags 50lbs, 100lbs, 150lbs and some excess materials in case i need to make more sandbags. I have an ssb, all types of bands, a sled, loadable dumbells, a bench bar and cable attachent inside and outside racks etc.
If I buy spuds yoke straps and a titan fitness log bar would I have enough variable equipment for the powerbuilding strongman program? If you think yes/no or I would also need any other equipment pls let me know so I can do it correctly.
I have been in need of a strongman program and there arent any common sense prolific ones like there is for powerlifting (texas method), (starting strength) etc.

Hey Brian, did you notice any decrease in stability in any of your joints after becoming more flexible?

Ok, I know someone is going to make a sarcastic statement but, stretch in the shower in the morning. The heat helps. Also, Dr Huberman said three 30 second holds, (but not to the point of any pain) over time seems to work best according to the science. Good luck bro

Stretching/Yoga is amazing. If you want to be your best at life, stretch and/or do Yoga, you will be amazed.

For sleep, look into valerian root, it has helped me from waking up multiple times. Thanks for all your videos, I am going to increase my time for stretching from a measly 2-5 min!
