Goncharov (1973) Original Score - Andrey On The Bridge

  • Couldn't see any uploads of my favourite number from the soundtrack. Absolute hidden gem. This plays over Andrey's monologue on the bridge shortly after Goncharov and Katya leave. That iconic pan up to the clocktower as the audience hears his true motivations for the first time, that's haunting stuff.

The film butchered the perfectly good translation "Andrei", my grandfather worked on this film and he insists that the actor for "Andrey" wanted it to be spelt "Andrei" after the actor's grandfather, Andrei Gorbanov. Great movie but now that I've seen the spelling I can't get it out of my head.

Honestly I'm still sad I can't find my favorite score from the movie when goncharov held gulliver, who was bleeding and on the brink of death in his arms while running across the bridge in the middle of the rain, one of the most emotional moments in a movie ever, that Andrey scream was gut wrenching, you could feel the anger and hatred in his voice , and then when he stops to watch his bleeding friend and it all melts to sadness, man, this movie hits hard .

Fun Fuct: this is director Alan Smithee's favorite movie, but he didn't admit it for a very long time because of his quarrel with Scorsese over the scandalous scenario of unreleased "Two faces of John Doe" back in 70's.

"But we were not heroes, Goncha, we were not heroes... Just a bunch of scared kids, running around with guns, pretending to be brave. The odds were always against us, old friend, and our luck was bound to run out, sooner or later..." Some people criticize the dialog as being too corny, but the delivery really elevates it. Really one of the movies of all time.

Andrey was such an amazing character, every time he was on screen it was pure chills, the most impactful scene of cinema history was definitely this bridge one,

Why is it funny talking about a fake movie as if it existed?😌

oh god. I'm never prepared for the way the strings just mesh with the bit where the boat goes under the bridge as the fog rolls in. chills.

My favorite part of the movie was when George Jaquez flipped the gold pool table on top of Silver Atom after confronting him about that time when he burnt down his girlfriend's house with her inside.

"No, a criminal's not what I _am._ A criminal is a status, not truly what you _are._ What I am is a monster. And no matter how hard I try... _That's all I can be."_
Seriously, the Director's Cut ending was so freaking sad. Rov tries to change, he tries to leave the mob life, he tries to go straight and be a force of justice, working with the police, and above all, he tries to be _good._ But he can't. No matter how hard he tries, all his efforts to redeem himself, to be _a good man..._ all he gets in return is sorrow, tragedy, and the loss of everything he holds dear...
Honestly, that ending's more poignant and all, but I kind of prefer the original one. For all he's been through to prove himself, Goncharov deserves his redemption.

I remember this line: "If you'll eat apple, you will be know that the wrong choice means. Maybe, cause of you and me sweared on the Bible, where apple is a symbol of sin and discord?"

I was skeptical at first going into the movie thinking it was a cheesy mafia movie, but my god is it something more. This movie was way ahead of its time, beautiful acting and cinematography, and AMAZING storyline. Every scene looked like a wallpaper and the symbolism was stunning, for anyone afraid or not interested in going into this movie, you’ll definitely be missing your chance to see art in action

It's such a shame still to this day this isn't on Netflix! I'm sick of people asking me about my sweet Goncharov shirt and telling me they have never seen it! Idiots!!!

"I'll jump! dont get any closer!"
    "Go on, do it then."
The fact Goncharov didnt care anymore after his action, and sad journey wishing for aubrey to not be a coward is sad, and speaks layers about society
