To be honest, when I finished the drama I wasn't sure how I felt about his memories being erased. On one hand, I thought that this was an unnecessary development. On the other hand, however, this gave him the opportunity to really be Do Hyun Soo. Since he's been Baek Hee Seong for so long and lived the past 15 years as a murder suspect and developing Baek Hee Seong's persona, it wouldn't be surprising if the past continues to haunt him and he never fully opens up to the people around him, turning to a lie whenever he feels that he needs to take care of things on his own. Waking up as Do Hyun Soo with only the memories from before the car accident meant he is who he was then, who is more honest and open about his emotions and who can still trust those close to him. And there are indications that he is able to regain his memories--the good and the bad--as he visits familiar places. How much, we can only guess. But that is good enough for me. Still upset they erased his memories like that... it was so unnecessary and it fixed nothing. Contributed nothing to the plot except to get rid of his bad memories (because he still ended up getting some of his good ones back) so he wouldn’t be the “damaged hero”. Should’ve let him deal with the emotions by himself, with Ji won by his side for support. Couples therapy along with time would’ve been a solution to their relationship issues.
I disagree, amnesia was the way Do Hyun Soo was reborn and it gave him the opportunity to start over with JiWon without pretensions and lies, it also gave him the opportunity to trust himself and his feelings. He didn't lost his memory forever, in the process of starting with his family he will gradually recover his memories, which are no longer important because love is a feeling and there's no need for him to remember it.
Viridiana Marcos When you say “start over without pretensions and lies”, it doesn’t make any sense, because Jiwon still remembers everything. Just because he doesn’t remember them himself doesn’t mean they didn’t happen. It also doesn’t make any sense for him to forget all the bad memories while still retaining the good ones, at least in the first episode. Sure, maybe he’ll remember the trauma eventually, but if that’s the case then why have him lose it in the first place? I’d imagine they have a lot to work through once he does remember everything, so why not just let him keep his memories so they can work on their relationship together sooner? I don’t want Hyun Soo to suffer more than he already has, but from a writer’s perspective, it didn’t add anything meaningful to the story. If they were going to pull the amnesia card on us, then have him lose all his memories. Period. What the writers did was a half assed version to appease the fans.
@@Lena-zn4re JiWon already accept him since EP 10, the one that need to accept himself was Hyun Soo, the amnesia plot give him the chance to trust his feelings, and start again as the REAL Do HyunSoo (that we barely saw in the drama). It's not clear if he will remember everything or just the good memories but I don't think that's important because they are starting over with trust, love and acceptance. The happy ending is that not matter the memories he lost, he is together with his loved ones ready to start again, a meaningful ending 🙌

The ending is excellent, erasing his memory is a way of starting over, he was never going to be able to be happy even if he wanted to.
