    Alpha male has horrible coaching. It’s a great facility but guys like holdsworth and Castillo aren’t going to be coaching anyone to a title. Faber needs to swallow his pride and look for a coach that can improve the gym, look what a guy like Duane did for the team in his short time there

      santiago steven I respect what Faber built with team alpha male but he’s refusal to let another coach come in and take control of the team is what’s hurting them. He rather have his boys act like coaches then go get someone who will help the team like what Duane Ludwig did for them.

    This is what happens when Alpha Male gets obsessed with beating 1 dude and just throwing guy after guy at him. Urijah Faber's obsession with Cruz finally paid off with Cody because they built Cody up since day 1 to beat him. Then he couldn't beat TJ. Now they'll probably have to spend another decade trying to train guys up to beat TJ lol.

    • @RoloHolland
      @RoloHolland 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Graham Van Dyke Cruz and tj are almost the same. Problem is that tj en duane trainend alot with Cody. Plus What Cody did in the fight was not very smart. The control he had in the Cruz fight was completely gone in the tj fight. He was just running into tj his fists.

    • @grahamvandyke
      @grahamvandyke 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      You're making the mistake of thinking that because TJ and Cruz have *similar* striking, that they have the same striking. They don't. They both do a lot of stance switching and consistent movement, but their striking and general fighting style is very different. You're also forgetting that Cody beat a Cruz who is now worn out physically. He had 2 ACL surgeries on the same knee (the magnitude of the surgery is far worse the 2nd time), tore his groin, has plantar fasciitis (for which there is no real fix) and to top it all off tore the ACL on his other knee from over compensating his bad knee. To top all that off, Cody could not finish Cruz, even though he had been suffering from severe plantar fasciitis for his entire camp. I wonder how much that injury affected his movement since he's an extremely mobile fighter? A younger, uninjured Cruz would have dominated Cody.

      @jayrex690 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MMA ONE It's a figure of speech. Yeah if you want to be pedantic I think he and most people had "some idea" of Cody's game plan, what I mean is that he wouldn't have really been any more clued in than the rest of us, which is obvious from his super vague answer.

    • @cosmic_JAV
      @cosmic_JAV 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Joe knew the game plan it's the same for every TAM fighter threaten the takedowns with wrestling, try and counter strike hoping to land a overhand or hook. Tj use to pretty much do the exact same before he left and now look at him he's striking is more unpredictable and he put chest and kicks from different angles, and he has developed some of the best footwork and head movement in the UFC. So he knew exactly what to expect from gsrbeant since it's the same way Faber fsougjt his entire career

      I think keeping hands down when retracting punches while attacking and loading up a bit to much cost him the fight and also Tj always put that lead foot on the outside of cody when tj would do that at the start he would back down or extend his stance but the last time he got emotional trying to chase the ko and accepted tj's foot position on the outside and boom tj extends further full power boom the end.

      Aside from coming back from the knee injuries, the primary reason Cruz was so unusually slow against Garbrant was the fact that he was suffering from severe plantar fascia tendinitis in BOTH feet. Tendonitis is excruciatingly painful in general. Plantar fascia tendinitis is not only painful as f'n hell, it's literally debilitating. For the fight with Garbrandt, Cruz had to have Botox injected into his feet to numb the pain but that is a double edged blade as it also affected his movement. Botox is a neurotoxic protein that inhibits the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is the chemical messenger (neurotransmitter) sent by nerve cells to signals other cells. Most significantly, is acetylcholine's function in the neuromuscular junction; as it is the chemical which motor neurons use to activate muscles. Botox blocks pain by blocking communication in neuromuscular junctions, but this also causes muscle weakness, as Botox induces muscle paralysis.
      A healthy Cruz would have given Garbrandt a much harder fight, and very likely could have won. Cruz gave TJ a much tougher fight because he wasn't dealing with foot issues, and TJ legitimately should have won that fight. No offense but you really don't sound like you know wtf you're talking about. Cody Garbrandt was 100% healthy for both of his fights with TJ, despite all of his extremely exaggerated excuses. That is an irrefutable fact, which has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. The only part of Cody's body that was "impaired and compromised" in his fights with TJ, was his brain. There is no doubt whatsoever that TJ is the superior fighter. You're simply being an illogical, contrarian, dunce.

Also I was speaking about my son having the same connection with his coach until he passed away at the Dragons Den MMA in the middle of a class. Yet the trolls come out and speak on the spelling of a name? Thank god I now know the correct spelling!!! I put my son into martial arts very young. For so many reasons. One reason is so he never feels has to hide behind a keyboard. Another reason is if he reads a comment speaking on death. He has the compassion to shut the fuck up unless he has something beneficial to say.

  • @MiguelSant0
    @MiguelSant0 6 ปีที่แล้ว +152

    Urijah is an obsessive, vindictive, bitter, controlling and stubborn person. It has made him successful business wise but he seems to get in the way of all of his fighters. None of his fighters ever get better, they just get more emotional, vindictive and stubborn; just like him. He fills their heads with his nonsense & hates anyone who challenges his dominance or threatens his ego or threatens to outshine him. Contrast AlphaMale to JacksonWink. Mike Perry, whatever you think of him, looked like a completely new fighter in his last fight. It was clear night/day difference just from doing one camp with JacksonWink.
    TJ & Bang had a unique connection, TJ left AlphaMale for someone who was truly invested in his future and under who's training he would always improve. Urijah didn't like Bang's influence, his connection w TJ, and what he wanted TJ to do vs. what Bang wanted TJ to do. When TJ left Urijah's ego couldn't handle it, and now he is ruining Cody's career by forcing him to fight his battles for him.
    If you're a fighter I say always challenge yourself! If you feel comfortable, get out of that situation. You never know what you'll learn at different places and you never know who will end up being your greatest coaches & supporters. Never pick a camp for life, find good people that are truly invested in your success wherever you can find them.

      @country corner - is it a leap? Actions speak louder than words. You don't ask an apple tree if it makes apples, you know it's an apple tree bc apples are growing on it. The fruits of whatever you work on show everyone who you really are and what your attitude is regardless of what you say. If everyone around you, your company, and your gym all have really nasty characteristics what is more likely, that all of them are the source of the problem or that you are?
      How Urijah handles fighters, contracts, media, careers, coaching, game-plans etc. over the last 8 years or so have given me this impression of him.
      EX: You know all the fighters at AlphaMale have 360 deals with the team right? Like a record label. A 360 deal means your manager (Urijah in this case) gets a massive cut of every dollar you make (Im pretty sure Urijah gets 50%, it might be higher, most 360 deals in music are higher - like 80%) and has control over any interview, media, commercial - even every instagram post you're in. All his fighters are too business-dumb to realize this so they sign the dotted line. They think they're living it up w private jets, boat parties, meeting celebrities, buying nice suits, buying nice watches etc. but forgetting it's Urijah's boat, Urijah's plane, Urijah's connections, Urijah's money etc. All their checks run through him, all their coaches run through him, all their game-plans run through him, etc. No one can do anything or go anywhere without Daddy Urijah behind it. If it works, good for you; but if you even THINK about doing something that goes against the wishes and ideas of Urijah he will turn on you like a scorned woman and command his minions to hate you forever.

    • @Octavus5
      @Octavus5 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Being composed is obviously important. And this is where his "team" is important. They have to reinforce these things in their fighters.
      If Cody would have remembered to just keep his left hand up, how might the fight ended? It could have turned out very differently based on that one very simple thing.
      Fortunately, Cody is still young. In a couple years, he can come back and take the belt back. He's going to be a scary MOFO. By then, TJ might be looking to retire as well.

    Along with Kyokushin Karate, Muay Thai has always been my first love and still is to this day. Muay Thai has been modernized and watered down since its birth but, I would still consider it a traditional martial art in some cases. Some of the old traditions in the art are still prominent! Granted, the skill set is far less extensive as it once was. Back then, there were several different variations of Muay Thai. Previously called Muay Boran, specific regions of Thailand had their own versions the art that were set apart by their HEAVY emphasis on preferred techniques. There was also a style that was invented and implicated in the Thai military known as Muay Chaiya. Furthering my point, Muay Thai has been around for hundreds of years and possibly longer. The more sport orientated version we all know and love today, has been around since at least the early 1900's. Not to mention, its been sported for competition since the early days except it was much more brutal.

    Cody's problem is TAM he needs to leave and go to somewhere else, i think he knows it too but hes too loyal in order to do that and its influencing him badly, thats his problem, they make him emotional too when fighting T.J... he has to make some big desicions, changes and climb his way back to the top and only then he'll succeed but until then... man he needs to fix everything - holes in his game, patience, emotions, camps, confidence and i would also suggest going to a sport psychologist... as i said big changes.

    • @demoneyin9390
      @demoneyin9390 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      His whole beef with TJ is about leaving TAM so I agree that it’s gonna be hard for him to leave. It’s also unfortunate because he’s the younger guy and should be improving not getting worse. TJ is the one getting better and is 32 whereas Cody is 25.

    • @bob7644
      @bob7644 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      KUKKYE/Sleepyhead I don't think he needs big changes at all. Lmao. He has two problems. One being a weak chin. Can't change that. Two being he's too emotional. Very simple change to be made. Fight more technical. It's clear that when he fights with technique he can beat anyone even with his weak chin.

    • @ajgarcia1962
      @ajgarcia1962 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Everyone keeps saying that but the camp got him a world title and now two fights later he needs to change camps? His problem is getting too emotional in fights. His coaches didn’t teach him to load up with every punch the way he did. He threw 3 rights in a row and got countered with 3 rights in a row but TJ had his hands up and moved his head while Cody just tried to kill him. Cody has the tools to beat TJ but his emotions and fight iq hold him back.

      @julioelchavez2889 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Justin left because Faber didn’t want him taking control of the team. Justin wanted to run practices like he was the head coach but Faber refused so he left the team. It’s sad to see how Faber can be responsible for such a great team but also the reason why they’ll never reach that next level due to his ego of letting someone else take control.

    • @andyham6094
      @andyham6094 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Justin is gone. He said he had differences with the team, most likely differences with faber on how things should work and what should change. Basically same problems with other previous coaches at TAM. Faber is one of my favorite fighters ever along with Cody and TJ, those 3 are my favorite but Castillo and Chris should not have been head coaches for a huge fight like this and immensely talented with huge potential fighter like Cody. Castillo and Chris should be nothing more than some advice and training partners and just assist. You can’t just decide to coach one of the biggest bantamweight fights ever and try to do it compared to someone who truely understands their fighter and truely knows the science, physical and mental science to coaching a fighter. easier said than done but I do know Castillo and Chris should not have been his coaches. They prolly had no choice after Justin left but Cody does need a good head coach, tam needs a good head coach who has the freedom to run it his way.

    • @paladro
      @paladro 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      but to be fair, team alpha male had been prepping against cruz for years unsuccessfully... i think he was fighting with anger and emotion in his last two fights, if not them all. it's just his style, sticking to a gameplan is a discipline not every fighter can master.

      Pride always comes before the fall.

    • @cosmic_JAV
      @cosmic_JAV 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The issue sticking with this particular camp is all of there fighters fight the exact same way. Faber fights exactly like Cody with a bit more wrestling which I think is mostly due to amount of fights/ring time, and before TJ left he fought exactly like those two counter strike while threating with takedowns using wrestling. But like Cruz was able to do before he got old and injured pre Cody fight, he was able to beat them by quick percise strikes and good movement, eventually Cody beat you but once again that's not the same Cruz that Faber and Tj fought. Tj left TAM expanded his skill set and technique with foot and head movement, throwing punches and kicks from different angles, he is still a good wrestler and can take most ppl down,plus he has become less predictable with his striking. So as long as Cody is with TAM he will always fight the exact same way he currently does just like Faber did his whole career and just like TJ before he left and started evolving and adapting

    Cody was on the correct side of Karma...All that bullshit talk came back well deserved at Aplpha Male and Cody. The "Snake" in the grass, became The "King Cobra" of the division. I always thought he beat Cruz. His only legit loss in my mind from what I've seen, was against Jon Dodson when he got cracked, but he likes the first fight recovered very fast, but the ref, called it already and rightfully so. But he had already recovered from getting caught, and would destroy Dodson today. The Raphael Asuncio loss could haves gone either way, and regardless, TJ was always a far better fighter. A much higher fight iQ, the ability to rise to the occasion, greater skill set, and easily the much better coach. He still is extremely under rated atm. Pound for pound, he's the best. The way he moves, his iQ, preparation, the only other fighter I have there are DJ and JJ. Not DC, not Khabib. McGregor and Brian Ortega are very close to putting it all together just as well.

      Jeff Haskins You'd rather let your wife cut your hair instead.

      Jordan Schlansky Jeff is rocking the “Khabib cut.” Khabib stole it from Matthew Modine in Full Metal Jacket.
      Every other cut is inferior.

    I know Garbrandt can beat Dillashaw and I wish he would have. Cody was emotional and rushed, and TJ is too good for that and now we have two first round KOs. Sucks! If Cody would have fought TJ the same way he fought Cruz, then he may have got the win. I know cody can beat TJ

      Tony Gareth well, we can only go by what the results were...2 fights to KOs

      He's proven he can't beat TJ. He got knocked the fuck out in the first one, and beat to a pulp the second. It was such a one sided beat down.
      Cody's not gonna get another shot against TJ. No one wants to see it, because he's gonna get torn apart again. I'm done with Cody. And everyone should be.

      Tony Gareth perhaps he couldn't fight him in that style because TJ was not allowing him to?

    I’m left handed but I feel super comfortable southpaw however I try to stay orthodox until I get an opportunity to step into southpaw the way Holloway alternates power hands

    When I watched the fight I just thought to myself that either one of these guys could sleep the other at any given moment, they are both that good. The margin for error at this level must be so small.
