    Lovely, cheerful home. Lucky you.
    European gestures of providing gifts of food to neighbors and friends are what many in North America grew up with, no matter their asset level. I did in Canada.
    Thank goodness my family was taught these manners and live it as a fact of life today.

    Welcome to Caccamo! My wife and I have a place up the hill from you toward the main church (called the Duomo by expats, Madrice or Matrice by the locals). We are back in the states for a couple of weeks but will be back for the Sagra della Salsiccia. In case you haven't heard yet, the town gets tens of thousands of people for the festival. Prepare to eat a lot! Sunday October 13. I'm sure we'll run into you in Caccamo. Feel free to let us know if you have any questions. It's great to get to know the locals and you'll also find that there are quite a few ex-pats in Caccamo.

      @toddstarr8876 Thank you for the kind words and the welcome. I look forward to meeting you. And yes, I'm aware of the festival, although I was not aware that it was going to add to the population of Caccamo by the thousands. How long have you lived in Caccamo?

      @@kristenandscott We live in North Carolina but visit Caccamo every month or 2. We missed you last week (we left on Sunday) but it sounds like you've already met a lot of people including the other person with ancestors from Caccamo looking to get citizenship (I've heard the Caccamo grapevine is faster than the internet)! Haha! The festival numbers vary depending on who you ask, but I've heard anywhere from 20,000 to 40,000.

    Wowee... those buildings are absolutely stunning.
    Simply beautiful town.
    My mother's side are Sicilian and Dad is from Abruzzo.
    I've never stepped foot on Italian soil in my 54 years, but these sorts of videos have me contemplating a quieter life in the future.
    Time to brush up on my Italian 😅

      Do it! There were and are so many unknowns living here, but the reward of taking the risks far outweighs the fear.

      @justjessygirl It was a Sunday when I took my walk and the streets are a bit quieter. During the week, there's a little bit more hustle and bustle around the town

    I've just come across your channel and I am excited to live vicariously through you! My grandfather came from Bagheria, Sicily. My dream has always been to go and find my family roots. Thank you for sharing!

      @@mari-annstumblingbear174 Welcome along for the ride. How long ago did your family immigrate from Bagheria?

      @kristenandscott Hello! My grandfather came over in 1918? He was 17 when he went through Ellis Island with his wine press in tow. He landed in Chicago, married, and raised a family. The family eventually migrated to Fresno, CA, where my grandfather had a small vineyard. That's the short story 😉

      @kristenandscott Yes! As a child I did. I loved his gardens too, which I think I inherited. 😉 I'll have Ave to go back and catch up with your story!

    very nice video, excited for you, does this part of sicily have any issues with migrants and crime?

    • @kristenandscott
      @kristenandscott  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @GH-zy2dh great question. In the village that I'm in, we don't see a lot of this impacting this area. I don't know if this would be different if I were living in Palermo or in some of the larger cities. As it is, the town I'm in, Caccamo, is located about an hour away from the shore and is somewhat remote.

      @@kristenandscott Very Thankful for your fast reply, we are looking in the area but little worried about safety, lack of water in summer time, i think that you are away from the volcano . Thanks again

      @kristenandscott  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @GH-zy2dh yeah I am about 3 hours maybe a little bit more away from Mount Etna. The lack of water is a concern. Right now, Sicily is in a drought. This means I'm running out of water sometimes and hot water is rationed.
