This song could be about a personal relationship but to me, it's a song to some of the media, the public, especially as he tries to navigate his career. For years and years and it still pops up occasionally, he''s tagged as "gay" before his name when mentioned. Some of the public/media want to know about him but not too much (ie, his personal relationships). Some want to hear what he has to say, as long it's not too political or social (ie. LGBTQ2+, race relations, equality, certain politics). When he persists about sharing his truth, the media/public ignores him. He's not like every other performer out there, he's his own "grown ass man" so accept and cherish him as he is.
It reminds me when he was just coming off Idol and talking about being gay and and Gene Simmons of KISS said in an interview that he should stop talking about his sexual life. Adam never went into details, only briefly acknowledged relationships when asked. At the time Simmons had released a book about all his sexual escapades and when Adam was asked about Simmon's comment, he replied, "If you want me to stop talking about my sex life, you stop talking about yours." - There, he said it!
