I LOVE MVs but I have to say, due to my limited free time, I haven't played many of them, which I plan to fix it in time. I saw your complete MV tierlist and I agree with many of your placements but I just can't justify a handful of them: Metroid Dread is at least A tier, together with Super Metroid Dandara is B tier Blasphemous is A tier (I just can't put it above Dread or Ender Lilies) That said, I know it's YOUR tierlist and it will certainly help me decide in which order to play my future MVs
As a fan of metroidvanias, I'm little disappointed. As a fan of 2D platformers and Yar's Revenge, however, I'm looking forward to this Count Dooku-style.
The soundtrack slaps, at least. Hope they put lots more effort into their Sigma Star Saga remaster. A Samurai Pizza Cats Metroidvania sounds like a rad idea. Make it a full-blown reboot or sequel to Kyatto Ninden Teyandee on the NES. :D
I didn't have an issue with running out of trions. Most rooms have junk you can destroy to loot. You can also use trionic nibble on enemies that walk on walls to milk them for resources.
Wasn't sure about this game at first but loved yars revenge and this was fantastic way forward continues to impress. The nibble can be used on bosses for damage and replenishing resources.
While I haven't purchased it yet, this game still has my interest. I might either wait for a sale or until the physical copy is available for purchase.
Oh god, I loathed the hacking sections. As an N64 girl growing up, I hated how much I had to engage in frustrating gameplay from 3 generations before I picked up a controller. (Same reason I never finished Donkey Kong 64) I feel a bit better knowing they were at least faithful though. I'm glad at least some people find joy in them.
Honestly, save a few gems, Way Forward's catalogue is plagued by mediocre titles like this one. I don't get how they keep such a high profile and keep collaborating with so many studios.
More revisionist history and complete nonsense about the game E.T. from someone who no doubt wasn't alive back then. As soon as someone claims E.T. was the worst game on the 2600, you can guarantee they never owned an Atari 2600 at all and have no idea what they're talking about. E.T. sold more copies than Yar's Revenge and other beloved Atari 2600 classics, so it can hardly be blamed for ruining the company. Every kid I know loved that game back then, while there were bizarre 3rd-party titles that weren't even playable. E.T. had annoying mechanics that weren't an issue once you understood them and some cryptic stuff that was solved by simply reading the manual, like every other 2600 game in existence. Really young kids who couldn't or wouldn't read the manual no doubt have negative memories of the game. Its reputation as bad, however, mostly comes from a partially-true urban legend and James Rolfe's (AVGN) jokes about it. And even Rolfe would agree with what I'm saying here. The game's quality and sales numbers had NOTHING to do with the fall of Atari. E.T. was far from the worst game on the system, especially if you start counting the 3rd-party and unlicensed crap that got pushed out. A serious ranking within context of what games were like at the time would put it in the middle of the pack for the 2600 library. It was also one of the best-selling games on the console, coming in at number 8 out of a library of over 500 titles. Copies of E.T. didn't end up in a landfill because it sold poorly, they ended up there because Atari made more copies than the number of 2600 consoles in homes at the time. They hilariously thought that the game would sell consoles because of the film's popularity. That wouldn't have happened at the levels they projected even if it was the best game in existence. They went broke not because of a single game, or even several low-quality games, but because they wasted money in dumb ways like this. The problem is, Atari consistently made stupid and unrealistic business decisions. That, in addition to the bloat of bad 3rd-party games, and new systems with better tech sank Atari. Their final bad decision was to say no to Nintendo who wanted them to partner with them to distribute the NES in North America with an Atari logo slapped on it.
I appreciate the post, but I’d suggest watching the ET part again. I pretty much verify everything you just said, but I used Pac-Man as the example to encapsulate Atari’s downfall, not ET, because Pac-Man better encapsulated Atari’s failings: poor quality, no standards, over-production. Pretty much what you said in your comment. I even cited Pac-Man as having more copies made than 2600’s sold, just like what you said about ET. “ET sold more copies than Yars” Never said it didn’t. However… “[ET] can hardly be blamed for ruining the company.” … the game’s poor quality, which led to MANY returning the game, certainly didn’t help, thus my “camel’s back” analogy. Atari’s downfall came at the hand of many factors and games with poor quality. “Every kid I know loved that game back then.” Me and my friends didn’t. We thought it was trash back in the 80’s 😆 “…from someone who was no doubt alive back then.” Sir, I remember walking into a pharmacy as a kid and seeing a bin of 2600 games based on some random brand of dog food. I guess the part that triggered you was the part where I said Howard made the best and worst games on the system. That’s a DIRECT quote from Howard himself. He wears the distinction as a badge of honor. So go take it up with him, not me. There’s no revisionism going on here. And most of what you said in your comment I SAID in my video, so if anything YOU’RE a plagiarist 😆 I’m just joking. And most my stuff is just jokes, so don’t sweat the small stuff.
i like how the map almost looks like an old 2600 game! Another great review video, loved your "fuck stealth" montage :D
LOOL the joke about the cat show after sailor moon

I didn't have an issue with running out of trions. Most rooms have junk you can destroy to loot. You can also use trionic nibble on enemies that walk on walls to milk them for resources.
There's also a biohack that makes enemies drop trions, so I rarely ran out.
Wasn't sure about this game at first but loved yars revenge and this was fantastic way forward continues to impress. The nibble can be used on bosses for damage and replenishing resources.
Trionic Nibble I used for killing the bug spawns from the insect queens
SA-MU-RAI PIZZA CATS!
double dragon neon is a cool game LOL . that IGN review tho

Ultimately, I liked it, so you might dig it, too.
6.5 isn’t terrible. It just means it won’t appeal to most audiences.
@@MetroidvaniaGuru Oh, of course! To each their own and all that xD
Soundtrack is Great! Sold for that alone plus the yar hacking.
You're gonna love the Siege and the Sand fox ;)
The Stealth and the Stealth Fox 😫
@MetroidvaniaGuru haha, I don't like stealth either, but the pixel graphics in that game look superb!
😊😊

Hello sir! I just wanted to let you know that the discord link in your bio leads to a message saying it’s expired. Thanks for great content as always!
Thanks for letting me know! It should be fixed now 😊
@@MetroidvaniaGuru it is fixed!! Thank you!
You??? Are not THAT old.
lol I’m not, but I’m close. I was raised on the 2600 until the NES came out.
