I’m one of those extreme bulls. But I have to admit that Ken knows what he’s talking about and therefore every time I see a video of him I listen closely because he also cares deeply about the truth rather than his own ego
The company’s mission to transition the world as quickly as possible to sustainable transportation. That means margins will get squeezed during a recession. Don’t forget that Tesla raised the prices of their cars about 30%+ from ‘21-‘22. So they have room to decrease their margins without hurting the company.

Cheaper cars, will mean more cars sold, but cheaper. If car margins are less, Batteries could be used for mega pack, demand is massive, and growing, everyone one needs power, utilities need this so Telsa could increase massively in this sector, where energy costs are high, and payback is quick. Its attractive for utility provider globally, no matter recession. In UK 400% increase in energy cost, so far. So anything to help balance the grid loads, reduce peak cost is attractive.

I sold my holdings and they are currently earning 3.68% in the "cash position" because it is the government bond index fund with very short maturities. Not a bad return during all this chaos.
Critical analysis like this is more valuable than biased pumping that makes shareholders feel good emotionally. My strategy is to hold and sell calls strategically to raise cash, accumulate at a bottom and wait for fed to restimulate. Growth stocks and car companies are highly cyclical in bull and bear markets just have to be patient and objective
Tesla is building. Keeping production and sales growing will pay off. If not now in, the future. Wright's law will help reduce costs and a recession will reduce commodity costs. Tesla can reduce prices and keep margins good. There are areas Tesla will grow fast such as Cyber Truck, energy storage and adding more production lines for models they already produce. Considering what Tesla produces it grows very fast.

It's too late to invest in EV AFTER the infrastructure and market it's already made and conquered by others. I invested in Tesla back in 2016 after I purchased my frist Tesla and deep dive of the company philosophy. Your statement showing lack of understanding a good company and what it is trying to do. It is not investment after the market is already adopted, then you are just following others to not go bankrupt.
Tesla's long term mission is to bring down cost of its vehicles as much as possible while eliminating unnecessary parts & processes to increase demand of sustainable energy transition which in turn results in exponential growth. Will tolerate the position size & time for things to get worst before getting better even though its painful emotionally & always stay prepared. I sold mine at $950 pre-split as well! Took the big profits and shorted TSLA, META, NFLX and a few other stocks for HUGE gains! Will continue to short TSLA even though I’m very bullish long term (10+ tears). Will re-enter at the lows with the gains from the ride down.

Love the videos Ken! The upside of selling cars with reduced margin means there are more cars on the roads. Ancillary products such as fsd, insurance etc will increase revenue, the more cars, the more potential to sell.
I'm not saying the extra revenue will recover the lost margin, just that in the long term more cars on the road has benefits especially when you can sell software products for them
It’s a good long term move. Keep the revenue coming in while tones are tough and build a huge network of cars and followers. It’s almost like the car would be a loss leader for the ancillary incomes later.
This is a nice video. Cheers Ken. My only input is that imo, Tesla cutting prices (or the US gov doing it for them) will be worse for legacy auto. Car prices will fall, their loans will start to default, they'll sell fewer because the market will be flooded with new Tesla cars because folk hate waiting like they hate stealerships and Tesla will thrive. CT due within the year. Buckets of cash in the bank and Energy bursting onto the scene from Lathrop.

Just as investors love to hear that their favorite stock is cheap so do consumers love to hear that a performance car has become reasonably priced. When you add that it is a car that has low maintenance cost in the time of a recession makes for a hot commercial, no? In a recession people don't want to see shine and bling-bling bills- it's savings that are stylish.

I'm so glad I took your advice a couple months ago. I sold all my shares at $305. Moved them into indexes when they were close to their lows. Took a decent profit instead of a massive loss. Now I'm just waiting to see if I want to buy back in if it does drop further...maybe $80(?). Otherwise, looking for less risk at my age of 46, and since I feel relatively financially secure. I do think it's great that they are lowering the price, even at the risk of lower margin. Yeah, sucks for the stock price, but good for the consumer. Maybe in the long term it will work out. OTOH, I am concerned about increased competition. I've been to 3 different European countries in the past year, and I've noticed many BMW, Renault and Volkswagen EVs on the road. If those ever enter US market, I see it taking over some of Tesla's market share. That also influenced me to sell my shares.
Lower prices does not necessarily mean lower earnings for Tesla. Earnings are always compared to past earnings. Profit margins will shrink but market share will be maintained and new markets will open up. We often forget that you can’t even buy a tesla in every state of the US.
i dont think the competition is competing with tesla but more the ICE industry, so the competition is taking their own market share, since they are the ones still producing ICE vehicles. Remember the global EV Marketshare is still under 10% and will be around 50% in the next coming 5-10 years. Less demand for ICE because of growing costs and also interest rates.

I listened to the whole stream. It is disingenuous to suggest this is what Elon is expecting. He was talking about the worse-case scenario. Tesla has industry leading margins and, even before Q4 earnings, is sitting on $21 billion cash and virtually no debt. His point was, even in the worst case recession, Tesla can ride it out and continue with the mission. What are the other auto manufacturers going to do, whether legacy or EV. Most have very low or negative margins. Most have already seen declining sales for several quarters and have only made profits because the pandemic and the chip shortages raised prices through insufficient supply and pushed up their gross margins. They will not be able to lower prices to survive and many will not survive. Tesla is the guaranteed winner, especially in the worst case scenario.

You are a great person Ken. It’s great to see a video from you again. I closed my position in Tesla at $840 for a great profit. I love the company and believe in the long term the share price will be at all time highs but a person shouldn’t ignore the macro environment.
I wish I had closed all my tesla positions back then. But I did sold 75% of my tesla positions with huge capital gain. I will close out 25% now in red to off set my gain and hold my cash.
The $140 call was accurate. But people complain that your message was one of a trader and not an investor as you claim to be. Berlin and Austen margins will go from massively negative to massively positive over the next 6 months. Input costs are dropping as per Elon. And in the US Tesla will not have to drop prices bc of the IRA. And as is Tesla is already massively profitable. They have enough room to cut prices outside of the US if needed. And the energy business seems to be poised for massive revenue and profit growth next year which will support the business even more. I think the no profit scenario Elon is talking about is a possibility but very unlikely to happen.

One downside though is more cars on the road equals money lost in servicing them

I'm not saying the extra revenue will recover the lost margin, just that in the long term more cars on the road has benefits especially when you can sell software products for them
It’s a good long term move. Keep the revenue coming in while tones are tough and build a huge network of cars and followers. It’s almost like the car would be a loss leader for the ancillary incomes later.
@@FinbarSpellman Tesla has to pay out of pocket for any warranty repairs ..so yes Tesla customers aren't charged through the warranty period

My only input is that imo, Tesla cutting prices (or the US gov doing it for them) will be worse for legacy auto.
Car prices will fall, their loans will start to default, they'll sell fewer because the market will be flooded with new Tesla cars because folk hate waiting like they hate stealerships and Tesla will thrive. CT due within the year. Buckets of cash in the bank and Energy bursting onto the scene from Lathrop.

Thank you for sharing your insights with us CGS. Do you think the price of Teslas coming down is going to put serious pressure on ICE? Just as investors love to hear that their favorite stock is cheap so do consumers love to hear that a performance car has become reasonably priced. When you add that it is a car that has low maintenance cost in the time of a recession makes for a hot commercial, no? In a recession people don't want to see shine and bling-bling bills- it's savings that are stylish.

Good video, I rather be invested than not. This market is hard to predict, it could go both ways. Long term investments in quality stocks is the way to go.

I'm so glad I took your advice a couple months ago. I sold all my shares at $305. Moved them into indexes when they were close to their lows. Took a decent profit instead of a massive loss. Now I'm just waiting to see if I want to buy back in if it does drop further...maybe $80(?). Otherwise, looking for less risk at my age of 46, and since I feel relatively financially secure.
I do think it's great that they are lowering the price, even at the risk of lower margin. Yeah, sucks for the stock price, but good for the consumer. Maybe in the long term it will work out.
OTOH, I am concerned about increased competition. I've been to 3 different European countries in the past year, and I've noticed many BMW, Renault and Volkswagen EVs on the road. If those ever enter US market, I see it taking over some of Tesla's market share. That also influenced me to sell my shares.
Lower prices does not necessarily mean lower earnings for Tesla. Earnings are always compared to past earnings. Profit margins will shrink but market share will be maintained and new markets will open up. We often forget that you can’t even buy a tesla in every state of the US.
i dont think the competition is competing with tesla but more the ICE industry, so the competition is taking their own market share, since they are the ones still producing ICE vehicles. Remember the global EV Marketshare is still under 10% and will be around 50% in the next coming 5-10 years. Less demand for ICE because of growing costs and also interest rates.

I listened to the whole stream. It is disingenuous to suggest this is what Elon is expecting. He was talking about the worse-case scenario. Tesla has industry leading margins and, even before Q4 earnings, is sitting on $21 billion cash and virtually no debt. His point was, even in the worst case recession, Tesla can ride it out and continue with the mission. What are the other auto manufacturers going to do, whether legacy or EV. Most have very low or negative margins. Most have already seen declining sales for several quarters and have only made profits because the pandemic and the chip shortages raised prices through insufficient supply and pushed up their gross margins. They will not be able to lower prices to survive and many will not survive. Tesla is the guaranteed winner, especially in the worst case scenario.
I remember Ken saying that TSLA was a buy when it was at $1100.. What happened?

Csco went down 80some pwrcent from all time high back in 2001. İt was so popular like Tesla. If Tesla does the same it can go down to 60.

You are a great person Ken. It’s great to see a video from you again. I closed my position in Tesla at $840 for a great profit. I love the company and believe in the long term the share price will be at all time highs but a person shouldn’t ignore the macro environment.
I wish I had closed all my tesla positions back then. But I did sold 75% of my tesla positions with huge capital gain. I will close out 25% now in red to off set my gain and hold my cash.

The $140 call was accurate. But people complain that your message was one of a trader and not an investor as you claim to be.
Berlin and Austen margins will go from massively negative to massively positive over the next 6 months. Input costs are dropping as per Elon. And in the US Tesla will not have to drop prices bc of the IRA. And as is Tesla is already massively profitable. They have enough room to cut prices outside of the US if needed.
And the energy business seems to be poised for massive revenue and profit growth next year which will support the business even more.
I think the no profit scenario Elon is talking about is a possibility but very unlikely to happen.
