Glad to see everyone point out how great Terminal Velocity's remix is. It's by far my favourite remix in the game, and it's absolutely Jun Senoue's work!
I fucking knew it he was going to remix that theme, I Always wanted to see his take on Terminal Velocity, and I Finally able to do so, is so DAMN GOOD!!!
I prefer the originals graphics. The overall darker lighting actually makes the light sources in the area stand out. The bloom in ultimate makes everything blend in a bit and can actually make it harder to see things.
Honestly, I think what makes it worse is that BlindSquirrel (or whatever the company name is that handled the remastered) changed the engine from the hedgehog engine, when Sega could have used Hedgehog Engine 2, as they did with sonic forces
Its really hit or miss for the remixed OST. Some parts are actually nicer and some mess up completely like Tropical Resort 1 or Sweet Mountain. What's funny to me is that people speculated that the music can be switched back to the original at will, even though it was never confirmed. As if everyone thought Sega was gonna be competent enough to put in this obviously needed feature.
Some of these (like Asteroid Coaster and Terminal Velocity) do a great job enhancing the original, while others (like Planet Wisp) seem to entirely miss the point of the original.
I actually want to put forth a point to consider. Perhaps the original is how Sonic sees it: peaceful and serene. The remix is the Wisps- at full power, lively and strong. Halfway there to taking back their home! If I could suggest it, I would make a serene remix of Planet Wisp, and have the current remix swap in when Color Powers or Boost is being used- because it's really not a bad remix.
Call me old-fashioned, but I prefer the original versions. I grew up playing this game on the Wii when I was younger. Don't get me wrong, I still preordered the game to go back through the nostalgia trip of every stage, I'm just saying i prefer the original soundtrack.

I agree with this, the Starlight Carnival can go either way, same with Asteroid and Terminal Velocity. The rest have the original as the better soundtrack. Especially Planet Wisp, the original for that was godly.
Just my opinion on the model, the og having the eye moving when he gets ready to run was something that looked great but the ultimate looks as if it's just a shell

Things kinda HAVE to look better, otherwise thousands to millions of people have wasted 40 bucks on one new power-up, one new game mode that could easily be modded into the base game, customization that could be modded into the game even more easily and extensively, and a hit-or-miss soundtrack that is free on youtube.

Something I’ve noticed is that the remixes have a much heavier percussion compared to the originals. Also, I think in general, I like the remixes, I just prefer the original Reach for the Stars, Aquarium Park, and Planet Wisp
Ultimate can look better at times but other times og wins but i do feel that overall Ultimate looks slighly better in some aspects and in others like Sonic's Model and certain effects like Metal's afterburners... yeah, not as good, the new ost is ok some tracks are on par if not better than the og but some just aren't as good
Also you know what would be cool? If you could choose individually which act uses the remixed songs and which use the Wii. Like on the settings it's: Tropical Resort Act 1: Wii. Tropical Resort Act 2: Ultimate. Topical Resort Act 3: DS and so on

from what i see, new graphics look better but the old soundtrack is definitely better. my only complaint is how the lighting looks on sonic in some areas. if he wasn't as shiny and the bloom was reduced, it'd be fine
The lighting really is infuriating. It’s so much darker on objects, but then any actual light sources are brighter, making this high contrast situation where you can’t see details as well and feel like someone is shining a mag light in your face at the same time
The main difference (for me), visually is that Ultimate is brighter. Sonic looks like he has a mini spotlight over his head the whole time, the lights on stages shine more brightly, and so does the boost.
Overall, the graphics and visuals in ultimate are really great but the og soundtrack still slaps but the remixes I love are the tropical resort, starlight carnval and planet wisp act 1 remixes
I like the OG version more than the "Ultimate" version. The way they handled the graphics reminds me of SADX, the character models look weird, the lightning engine is broken, and in addition to that they also added overexaggerated bloom that makes the original look more HD. The OG music is perfect anyway, they didn't need to remix it, and I like the OG music more. Rival Rush is heavily unpolished. I don't like this
I do get some of the critiques about lighting aspects in here, but I mean, I really don’t get how you can look at stages like planet wisp, sweet mountain, or tropical resort and say the Wii game looked better IMO

I LOVE Starlight Carnival and I dare say it even looks out of the world..... But really though it's so beautiful, in my opinion they did it justice visual wise.

It’s obvious that most of the remixes are going to be shamed on, especially Sweet Mountain, because of the biased opinions from people who’ve played Colors before and have listened to the OG soundtracks multiple times. It’s the people who have never played Colors who are the real judges of the remixes.
@@doni7895 The lack of Global Illumination, poorly done fog, choices that ignore the original artstyle, Sonic's emissive shader all cause this game to look outright worse than the original in a lot of places. Also theres a lot of missing effects and random issues, grass in Planet Wisp isn't even affected by shadows at all for instance.
I didn't pay attention to which version is which but I think left looked better for tropical resort because it was able to get a bit darker so that the glowing parts stood out more and have it a neon glow sort of vibe

I don't get why everyone hates the new Planet Wisp remix. While the original is a masterpiece, I feel like the added synth taking over the melody at some parts and accompanying the piano melody in others perfectly represents the stark difference between the nature (piano) and machinery (synth) that make up the area.
I love both but it felt like it was too perfect to be changed. Now something like the aquarium park act 1 was cool but felt calm I really like the added instruments to hype it up some more.
Sweet mountain is just such a stark contrast in terms of music, every time i heard the new version i felt like part of me died inside only to be resurrected when the original played
Hearing all the remixes before the game is out. So hearing these in parts amazing. Btw the Terminal Velocity remix is so good. It reminds me of sky rail, well it was remixed by Jun Senoue.
Im gonna be the only one but i much prefer the new tropical resort. Having the lights stand out much more and the dark being shown more fits so well, considering they're in space, so the lights from the buildings should be the only part of light. The old colours just... had lighting everywhere, which never sat well with me
I noticed something about Terminal Velocity, the part where you dodge those laser beam robots in the beginning. The first wave of them actually fly away in SCU, while in the OG, they hit that little ceiling and give the player some boost
The overall synth drums just sound so empty it makes me sad. It makes Tropical Resort sound slightly off. It's good on its own merits, yeah, but the tinfoil drums don't stand a chance next to the original drum samples. Sweet Mountain just sounds empty, full stop. Planet Wisp is absolutely atrocious and unfitting. The others are good tho
The part in the terminal velocity stage where you look up towards the theme park to realize just how far you've gotten, from the view of how close you need to go really sets in the fact that this theme park is very fuckin huge.
I don't understand how it matches the opening th-cam.com/video/CpacfQ2b3JA/w-d-xo.html (here to 0:48) it does a bit for the scene before that but every single shot after that it matches how it looks in the original game
I like the new one slightly more for its techno feel, though the old one is still the best one; It has its own feel to it meanwhile the new one sounds too modern too remix-ish to stand out on its own, it almost sounds like something out of the Wreck-It Ralph soundtrack, which is totally a good thing! Both are amazing on their own way, but the old one feels more akin to its game's world.

I really don't like the new remixes (except for Terminal Velocity). They are way too much over the top for me. Maybe I'm just a bit nostalgic towards the old OST but yeah...
Imma be honest. Some of these people are asking more than they can chew because my god this new colors ultimate looks great as a upgraded game. Make sure you watch it at 1080p 60fps on the setting of this video because it made mine auto and did 480

*Tropical Resort: Original* The original has an actual "Resort" type vibe to it thanks to the guitar, like the level name implies. Ultimate's just sounds plain, but alright. *Sweet Mountain: Original* Original by a looong shot. Ulitmate's version just sounds lame and souless without the bombastic horns and "Bosa nova(?)" drums. It sounds like a Forces track but on the Nintendo DS. *Starlight Carnival: Ultimate* The original is still great, but Ultimate blows it out of the water tenfold. It has a nice Adventure Era vibe to it might I add. *Planet Wisp: Draw* Not gonna lie, both versions are perfect, I can't decide which I like more. The original is iconic and has a nice sense of variety to it amongst all the rock and techno of either games tracks, but Ultimate's remix goes hard af. *Aquarium Park: Draw* Same exact thing as Planet Wisp *Astroid Coaster: Original* Ultimate's remix is pretty good, but the original just has the nice rawness thanks to the prevalent guitar. The synth drums in Ultimate's honestly takes away from that, and sounds quite distracting from the main melody. *Terminal Velocity: Ultimate* HOLY SHIT! Ultimate's version wins by a long shot, no disrespect to the original. The updated guitar and the drums just give it that energy that running down a space elevator should have. It's also easily the most Adventure sounding of the bunch, and Adventure-esque music is always a plus in my book. Honestly this whole remix is just **chef's kiss** *Final Tally:* Original ~ 5 Ultimate ~4
So the remixes. Tropical Resort, Sweet Mountain and Planet Wisp, are terrible. Awful instrument choices. Aquarium Park and Asteroid Coaster are decent, but not better than the originals. I prefer the calmer feel of og AP, and new AC's drums are a little too wild. Starlight Carnival and Terminal Velocity on the other hand, sound fantastic, and improve on the originals.

Most of it at least. Aquarium Park Act 1 in Ultimate is 🔥. Maybe not better than the original, But at least just as good, and I honestly prefer it.

I think is because sonic is programed to move in 8 directions so when you run and sligthly tilt to left or rigth those are the diagonals
It’s obvious that most of the remixes are going to be shamed on, especially Sweet Mountain, because of the biased opinions from people who’ve played Colors before and have listened to the OG soundtracks multiple times. It’s the people who have never played Colors who are the real judges of the remixes.
Its really sad to see how poorly this was handled, the visuals in a lot of places are just saddening to look at.

@@doni7895 The lack of Global Illumination, poorly done fog, choices that ignore the original artstyle, Sonic's emissive shader all cause this game to look outright worse than the original in a lot of places.
Also theres a lot of missing effects and random issues, grass in Planet Wisp isn't even affected by shadows at all for instance.
I didn't pay attention to which version is which but I think left looked better for tropical resort because it was able to get a bit darker so that the glowing parts stood out more and have it a neon glow sort of vibe

I don't get why everyone hates the new Planet Wisp remix. While the original is a masterpiece, I feel like the added synth taking over the melody at some parts and accompanying the piano melody in others perfectly represents the stark difference between the nature (piano) and machinery (synth) that make up the area.
Reminds me of the classic planet wisp remix in generations
I love both but it felt like it was too perfect to be changed. Now something like the aquarium park act 1 was cool but felt calm I really like the added instruments to hype it up some more.
Terminal velocity's theme reminds me of the sky deck from SA1
Sweet mountain is just such a stark contrast in terms of music, every time i heard the new version i felt like part of me died inside only to be resurrected when the original played
However, I do agree with people here when they say that Terminal Velocity's remix is really good, because it is!
Hearing all the remixes before the game is out. So hearing these in parts amazing. Btw the Terminal Velocity remix is so good. It reminds me of sky rail, well it was remixed by Jun Senoue.

Im gonna be the only one but i much prefer the new tropical resort. Having the lights stand out much more and the dark being shown more fits so well, considering they're in space, so the lights from the buildings should be the only part of light. The old colours just... had lighting everywhere, which never sat well with me
The remixes almost sound like they're uncompressed versions of the originals if that makes sense.
I noticed something about Terminal Velocity, the part where you dodge those laser beam robots in the beginning. The first wave of them actually fly away in SCU, while in the OG, they hit that little ceiling and give the player some boost

The overall synth drums just sound so empty it makes me sad. It makes Tropical Resort sound slightly off. It's good on its own merits, yeah, but the tinfoil drums don't stand a chance next to the original drum samples. Sweet Mountain just sounds empty, full stop. Planet Wisp is absolutely atrocious and unfitting. The others are good tho
Ultimate looks so much more colourful no pun intended and I love it!!!!
The part in the terminal velocity stage where you look up towards the theme park to realize just how far you've gotten, from the view of how close you need to go really sets in the fact that this theme park is very fuckin huge.

it does a bit for the scene before that but every single shot after that it matches how it looks in the original game
I like the new one slightly more for its techno feel, though the old one is still the best one; It has its own feel to it meanwhile the new one sounds too modern too remix-ish to stand out on its own, it almost sounds like something out of the Wreck-It Ralph soundtrack, which is totally a good thing!
Both are amazing on their own way, but the old one feels more akin to its game's world.

I think how it works now is that the first three acts play the acts 1-3 themes from Colors, then acts 4-6 use remixes, giving each act their own song.

Overall, the original mixes were better. Each was more unique.
In Ultimate, its like they looked at each song and said: "NOT ENOUGH DRUMS!!"

The original has an actual "Resort" type vibe to it thanks to the guitar, like the level name implies. Ultimate's just sounds plain, but alright.

Original by a looong shot. Ulitmate's version just sounds lame and souless without the bombastic horns and "Bosa nova(?)" drums. It sounds like a Forces track but on the Nintendo DS.
*Starlight Carnival: Ultimate*
The original is still great, but Ultimate blows it out of the water tenfold. It has a nice Adventure Era vibe to it might I add.
*Planet Wisp: Draw*
Not gonna lie, both versions are perfect, I can't decide which I like more. The original is iconic and has a nice sense of variety to it amongst all the rock and techno of either games tracks, but Ultimate's remix goes hard af.
*Aquarium Park: Draw*
Same exact thing as Planet Wisp
*Astroid Coaster: Original*
Ultimate's remix is pretty good, but the original just has the nice rawness thanks to the prevalent guitar. The synth drums in Ultimate's honestly takes away from that, and sounds quite distracting from the main melody.
*Terminal Velocity: Ultimate*
HOLY SHIT! Ultimate's version wins by a long shot, no disrespect to the original. The updated guitar and the drums just give it that energy that running down a space elevator should have. It's also easily the most Adventure sounding of the bunch, and Adventure-esque music is always a plus in my book. Honestly this whole remix is just **chef's kiss**

Tropical Resort, Sweet Mountain and Planet Wisp, are terrible. Awful instrument choices.
Aquarium Park and Asteroid Coaster are decent, but not better than the originals. I prefer the calmer feel of og AP, and new AC's drums are a little too wild.
Starlight Carnival and Terminal Velocity on the other hand, sound fantastic, and improve on the originals.
The original definitely gets a win from me
My favorite remix is Starlight Carnival
