    David Yost is my hero. He was when I was 7 and he is 22 years later. He even sent me a free shirt because I am recovering from being hit by a car and breaking my back and 3 other limbs. He is the best

    It's sad and bizarre to think that people working in the Film and TV industry of all careers could have a problem with gay people.
    Feel for you man, sorry you went through this bullshit, you're still the best Blue Ranger in my eyes.

    The last part of his interview made me cry. I can relate to everything he said. I'm not gay. But I was bullied and called many names growing up.

    David made the right decision to leave the show, and I'm glad he didn't commit suicide and just accepted being gay. Basically saying "This is who I am and you're not going to change me into something I'm not". Those producers can go to hell ! That was very rude and unprofessional, they should've been fired.

    • @imzadibeloved4735
      @imzadibeloved4735 8 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      It breaks my heart to hear how badly he was treated simply for being gay . The producers owe him a HUGE public apology!!!!!

    • @вєѕт-к7ф
      @вєѕт-к7ф 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I mostly agree on both those but obviously they don't want to accept the fact that they did something wrong and try to hide it which is so annoying.

      I don’t blame him for leaving the Power Rangers show but I didn’t like how his tenure ended on a bad note due to homosexual harassment he dealt with for many weeks prior to his departure from the show. Remember David, Power Rangers fans including myself, your relatives, friends and co-stars, Walter, Amy Jo, and JDF, will always support you no matter what.

    • @Youalleatmuffins

    Wow. I got chills. I know that David will probably never read these comments, but I have to write this. Power Rangers was a huge part of my childhood, and Billy, being the nerd, was the one I identified with the most. David, all of us who loved Power Rangers love you, no matter what our race, gender, sexuality, or creed... the sane ones, anyway. Keep fighting the good fight, and thanks for all you've done for us lonely kids.

  • @zerogranger
    @zerogranger 10 ปีที่แล้ว +178

    after this interview one of the producers said that David was lying and it was over pay. But I say BULLSHIT to that. The producer probably said that because people were pissed at him for saying what he said and he wanted to save his own ass by saying David was lying. Unbelievable! First they bully him for being gay then they try to lie and say they didn't shame on you producers! David you are an inspiration to all of us. I'm so sorry those pathetic excuse for producers did that to you

      kory stephens Alright well nobody will really know for sure because this was before cell phones and hidden cameras. I'm just saying I met David today at a con and he was rude, sarcastic and bitter looking. His booth lineup was also very empty, the black ranger was friendly and a cool guy.

    • @kurvos
      @kurvos 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      4Legacy I think he was STRONG to dare to leave the show and did the right decision for his mental health, but I don't see any "heoric" act in it? Being a "true hero" means to do something unselfish.

    • @rjp3837

      How is trying to leave a VERY hostile situation for the sake of your own mental health selfish

    • @kurvos
      @kurvos 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      random person Uhm... that is literally the definition of "selfish". He did it for himself. What you need to understand is that being selfish isn't ALWAYS a bad thing. In this case, it's a very good thing. We forget to take care of ourselves. We all NEED to once in a while be at least a LITTLE selfish so that we take take of our physical and mental health.

  • @ShadowDJ94

    THIS is why I want Saban to have someone give a legit apology to David...not just something half-ass, I mean real-deal one. This dude was one of my role models growing up, along with the other rangers. I kind of wish to see David and some of the other rangers go into other roles, like how well Jonny Yong Bosch and Jason David Frank are doing. Heck, I wouldn't mind them getting into more serious roles in an action show.
    Seriously, they got the skills to do it. I know it's mainly fighting guys in clunky costumes, but a lot of them know actual martial arts.

    • @anim242

      Seishin i know :P I mean like Amy Jo Johnson and her role in that cop drama. THAT is what I mean. She was the pink ranger, and then she moved onto a more serious show and did a great job there.
      I kind of want to see David Yost being in that sort of limelight as well XP

    THIS is the main reason he turned down the offer to return to "Super Megaforce," as he didn't want to suffer any more abuse from the staff like he did back then. Things have probably changed by now because many years have passed, but NO ONE should have to go through stuff like that

    I am going through what this guy is describing right now.
    My mental breakdown accrued about a year ago when my parents disowned me and kicked me out for being gay.
    I spent quite some time in different hospitals and I still can not work because of the nerve damage.
    Hatred is such a terrible thing and leads only to more pain and suffering.

    Billy was always my favorite character. I was actually at his panel at AFO, and when he told us about the circumstances around his leaving the show, i almost started to cry ;_; I also went to his autograph session that day and told him how much i sympathized because i had a lot of bully problems growing up and Power Rangers was my favorite show at the time, so it was also my escape. He gave me a hug and told me he was sorry i had to go through that stuff. I'll be cherishing that memory forever.

    David, you've been a special part of my preteen years, simply because you were one of the original Power Rangers. No other cast could do what you guys did for us. You made a fantasy well worth living and you gave kids like me hope that I could always do something better. I'm glad you didn't hurt yourself because I don't think I could get past it if something bad were to happen to you. I love you and so do all of your real fans. Stay true to you and we will, too. David Yost is an incredible person. Extremely strong humble and nice to all his fans, embracing his role as the original blue ranger even with the hardships that came with it. I'm so sorry for what you had to go thru but if it makes any difference, your 5 year old fans at the time are now 25 year old fans like myself and where are all here for you bro and will continue to support our childhood role model Billy but more importantly our adult role model David Yost. This is from a straight Italian catholic kid from New York.

      I agree what most people said 'bout JDF being like a DICK and ASSHOLE ('Urinatin' On David, 'Hair Brush' And 'Fly On David's Sandwich') was absolutely HORRIBLE And DICK, ASSHOLE act from JDF.I'll say it one LAST time, it is one thing to fun with david yost and fool around sometime with David, but to pull pranks like, forementioned-FLY ON DAVID'S SANDWICH, HAIR BRUSH & URINATIN' ON DAVID was absoutely INEXCUSEABLE. I wouldn't & never would blame david yost if he disliked & never forgave Jason David Frank for that. To-David Yost ('I'm VERY sorry you had go through that what Jason pulled on you') Im sorry to say this 'bout Jason David Frank, it's sad now a days And understandable some fans dislike And lost respect on Jason & the controversy about Jason David FRank. Upsetted and surprised me most is way he disrespected fellow POWER RANGER star, Rick Medina, Jr. and being like a jerk And rude to few POWER RANGERS fans. I'm not only a BIG Jason David Frank fan, ALSO BIG fan of Walter Jones(Black Ranger-Zack Taylor) and EVEN YOU!, David Yost(Blue Ranger-Billy Cranston) Take it easy, and YOU TRULY ROCK, Blue Ranger! ! You, Billy And Zack should have worn Green Ranger's shield And carry Green Rangers dragon dagger to summon DragonZord occasionly once in a whil !

Hope to see you act in any project in the future. You have my support and respect!

  • @TheVLevi
    @TheVLevi 11 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    This is a sad, complicated story. David seems like a very nice guy. I personally don't like the fact that he actually tried to change himself in order to indulge others. That was a bad idea. Being gay is not something to be ashamed of. We live in a society where most people don't accept the different one. Sad to hear that the whole production crew made a joke out of his sexuality, and a dumb thing too. I mean, if you want your actor to be at his best, why would you make fun of him and put him down? By doing that, you simply make him feel insecure, and at the end of the day it affects his acting.

    to me David Yost is Billy, intelligent, and strong, the sad part is i got choked up about why he left the power rangers, but to me he is still mighty morphin blue, the brains of the group, yes as a kid i would argue about being the red ranger then after the character grew more and became more defined in noticed that Billy was stronger then the others. he wasn't fast, or strong like the others, he had his wits, and when the 'nerdy geek' side of him melted away, and the gymnastic and powerful mind if the group formed in i began to realize i didnt care what color of suit i wore would be, it is the heart behind it, of course David Yost's character i did miss alot. forever the blue ranger billy, forever the brains of the team and the heart.

    The entire Power Rangers show helped me in my younger years, and Billy was a character I related to. I was a very awkward kid and was called geek (A name which I now embrace as my identity) and other similar names, and I'm also in a wheelchair which made it even harder. When I was a kid I never even knew David was gay but when I found out it made me even happier that Billy was one of my role models since David also had a hard time fitting in for his own reasons.

I'm not gay but I class myself as "different" in the fact that I was born in the south of England and moved "up north" where I stood out because of my accent, not the colour of my skin or my sexuality. It was hard being called"poncy southern softie" "posh", "snob", "nerd" and "geek" to name but four of the insults that regularly came in my direction. I just want to give him a hug...
    I think it's humbling that he is able to speak so truthfully about his problems, and even the mistakes he went about trying to "fix" them.
    I can only say that I am super happy he is still around, found his way and is continuing to pursue what he enjoys most about life.
    You were my favourite Power Ranger David. So thanks for the awesome entertainment as I was growing up.

    He said some of the crew screwed with him. That Jason (Tommy) was the prankster on set, but when it really boiled down to it, Jason was known to stick up for him and defend him. He got along well with the cast, but his best friends who encouraged him the most were the girls and Jason.

    Seeing his hardships is heart breaking. I'm wanting to cry for him....I don't understand why sexuality has to drive people to do nasty things like David Yost. I think I love him more now then ever cause I've been through where he went through. I constantly struggle with suicidal thoughts and although it's not due to a single event or issue being gay was a large part of that. I used to believe I was the only abomination in the world that didn't deserve to live so on some level I know how he feels. All I can do is send some youtube HUGS to David and say your a beautiful person inside as much as out! You are an awesome person as much as you were a ranger!

    I had a friend in grade school who always played and watched all the Power Rangers stuff with all of us as kids. Watching this video not only takes me back to those days; but it saddens me. My friend took his own life when we were in high school a few short years later because he felt the same way Dave Yost here says he felt. It's strange but true... he always wanted to be the blue power ranger out on the playground in elementary school. He was the blue ninja for Halloween 1995. :(

    As a kid growing up and watching David as the Blue Ranger, I was completely oblivious to what was happening behind the scenes. It was only until now, 19 years later, that I found out about this. You'd think that people working in the film industry would be more "professional" with their words and behaviour. It is disgusting that David's co-workers treated him so poorly. No one deserves to be called names and discriminated. Nevertheless I'm so glad David is doing well now!

      well we were kids. none of us knew what was going on behind the scenes. all we cared about was the fact we were seeing superheroes with giant robots defeating monsters and other evil creatures. as adults and the actors coming out saying what was going on we've learned so much more about how twisted these producers and other crew members could be like how they weren't get paid enough even though it was the number one rated kids show in the 90s.

    God bless You David! As a Christian, I'm against the sin of racism as much as I am against homosexualism. The difference is I'm Not against PEOPLE! My limit w/gays socially & in person is, Not NO touching. I'll hug you, & I'd love to hug Dave bc he was hurting & my LORD and Savior taught me compassion. Notice; the "religious" leaders of God's day brought a PROSTITUTE to Christ for judgement! They caught her IN the Act. NOW what they had to be doing to catch her in the act,...Hhmm makes you kinda wonder. We're they in line & just got mad at her price or maybe she was closing shop after the one she did in front of them in line. THATs Irelavent though. ANYway back to the history, Jesus had the authority in Heaven (always) and even on earth voluntarily offered to him even by those who hate'em Him! And what does he say/do? He writes the commandments on adultery in the sand as a warning & tells her; "Your sin is forgiven," ONLY bc He's God so He not Only is the only human being on earth w/the authority to forgive sins, He always - & this is the part that even Christians get twisted - He has the power to glimpse into the soul, the intent, the motives of man(kind) so He knew she was sincere. "go and sin no more." The final very tragic thing th@ must be sad is that I wish I could live in the 90's for the rest of my life bc David - God bless & help him - was among the LAST Actor to go thru that ESpecially blacks & males of any color. Today in Hollywood being David is the best thing you can be or do! They are so pushing this 'gay' agenda thru'&'thru music - black music & pop music so far & Hollywood in general, as well as mentally&socially castrating the male - black males first so if we can't produce we die out - don't believe me?? Good! That means maybe, just maybe you will b free thinking enough to research it FOR YOUrself! When did You EVER think rap artist would go from bein the bad boys of music (hecc one of the largely most successful Record Labels in rap was Named just that; 'Bad Boy' (P.Diddy & Biggie) to now so called hard artists -INcluding one whom has the balls (more like lack thereof!) to Ame himself "Youn Thug". More like Lady Bug, not only does he talk, act & dress gay, he has been photographed wearing a dress! So has; Kanye West, ASAP Rocky & many others. Again, ignore me except this one thing! Research the following please(!!!) the de-masculation of black males or womanizing rappers and black males (TH-cam these next few pls, thank You!) The gay agenda in hip-hop, Dr. Umar Johnson on hip hop and Obama. (Republicans who hate Obama, U'll agree --->) Dr. Umar Johnson on Obama (&or Obama's secrets by Dr. Umar Johnson) lastly pls please take the brief time to TH-cam Dave Chappell on the illuminati IF You haven't already. Be well my brothers & sisters Of ALL genders & race!

    Seeing this made me cry for what he went through being discriminated for his sexuality. One of my best Friends came out to me years ago, at first I did not know how to handle it, but I got use to it and didn't let it bother me. David is my hero! I met him a couple years ago and told him that I was bullied, picked on and called a failure in life. I even told him I was on the verge of taking my own life by jumping off a 3 story building, but a Maitence Man walked by and talked me out of it. David told me that guy was my angle sent from God to stop me. Without him, Dave and I wouldn't have met! David Yost is a legend and a great guy! I love him for who he is as a person and he impacted my life!

    The last bit of his story was actually sad. I really wish he stuck around. He is a really good person. I can't believe there is something called "praying the gay away"--God accepts you regardless of who you are. There is nothing one can do about being gay (scientifically proven) I really felt bad for him ;(

    You have no idea how THANKFUL I am to y'all for getting an interview with this man! For years, I have always wondered why he left the show and to hear the REAL story from him is quite upsetting, which proves how cruel people can be towards someone for being different. Hopefully, his co-stars were not a part of the harrassment. As for David, it doesn't really matter to me whether he's gay or not...I still love him because MMPR was a HUGE part of my childhood. If it doesn't ring back too many bad memories, I think it would be cool for David Yost to work behind the scenes for future Power Rangers seasons, echoing Billy's transition from Ranger to Technical Guy / Mentor. Hell, even a cameo as the Blue Ranger would work for me...or even making the "Billy is the Phantom Ranger" fan theory canon (although I understand the Phantom Ranger isn't so iconic).
