What about the use of subjunctive forms after 'as if'/'as though'? For instance, which is correct: She loves him as if he is her son. / She loves him as if he was her son. / She loves him as if he were her son. and I remember the story as if I have (or had) just read it.
Yes, as if and as though should be followed by the subjunctive, which is conjugated the same way as the past tense. But be careful, to be is the only English verb that has two forms in its past tense, was and were. Only were, not was, corresponds to the subjunctive. Regardless of the subject, you always use were, not was, after as if and as though.
