If only your top lights work front & rear then you’ve likely blown a fuse under the hood in fuse block. I work for the same company and their trailers mostly always have wrong to with them. The trailer abs doesn’t work, the lights don’t work, flat tire, dot inspection, the land gear won’t crank lol it’s always something nobody reports anything with trailers at UsXPRESS
When I drove big trucks, trailer wiring issues like this were very common. More often than not, when you had a failure like this, it was a failure in the trailer pigtail junction box. (The pins get damaged, worn or broken or the circuit fails inside the box.) Also, just over time and use, the pigtail connectors wear out and starts getting a sloppy connection. A sign of that is you will sometimes see the trailer lights occasionally blink off and back on as your driving down the road due to the now sloppy fit between the pigtail and trailer junction box. For this reason, I carried a spare pigtail. I occasionally needed to use it. As far as individual lights are concerned, I carried an inventory spare clearance, side marker and rear tail lights along with a variety of spare light connectors. So very often I found broken individual lights and connectors I had to repair before the trailer would pass pre-trip inspection. And it was often quicker and easier to fix them myself instead of the hassle of getting shop support to get it done. When I passed through the terminals, I would restock my inventory. Some of them I would need to turn in the broken lights to get replacements. I did discover certain areas where the locals would purposely drop loaded broken trailers which they were for all intents and purposes were never road worthy. I would then reject the load, re-hook and leave with my empty trailer. I could not afford the lost wages of dealing with the continuous equipment problems with those sites.
Talk about inefficiency. They lost all that money when you could be running loads over trailer light issues. It's unreal. I hope they paid you well for your two days of down time. Keep up the good work sir, you are a good dude. Stay safe. I haul flat bed now.. hopefully I'll see you out on the road sometime!
One tip my dad showed me is if your cord is double ended just turn it around. It worked for me 75% of the time whenever I had weird light issues that I didn't want to spend 2 hours in a shop for.
OMG ..... Alex my friend, it’s just a fuse Next time, please try turning OFF your light switches once you hit the pin. Then connect air and electrical lines and then climb back up into the cab and turn your 2 light switches back on.
On a kw truck, you can tell if it is the truck or trailer because if it is the truck, some lights will be off. If it is the trailer, all the lights on the truck will be on but not the trailer. The fuses are easy to change if you know how. If the fuse keeps blowing when you hook up to the trailer, it is a trailer problem.
Here’s an old school trick a mechanic gave me. Split any electric cable you can throw out, take the copper wire strips, twist them and bend them to shape to connect to the two side holes next to the middle hole of your electric cable. The copper creates an electric connection for emergency use
You can NOT make money sitting in a repair shop!!! Leave THAT trailer for repairs!!! Have dispatch put you on a different load!!! This is the huge conflict of interest between paying drivers by the load/mile. I've spent much time troubleshooting trailers on my dime. Trying to get breakdown pay out of some of these carriers is like pulling teeth.
Yep, so many time I see a problem with trailers near the one I'm picking up or dropping off. I could easily fill out a OTR report so they could send someone out to fix it. However, they don't wana pay me for half the shit I do extra so I no longer care about being a team player. Toxic drivers are shaped and molded by these big carriers. Looking back to when I first start and think how eager I was to be the best employee makes me cringe.
You should buy a 7 way tester save the Hassel of having to trying to go to another trailer and it takes a total of 1 min to see if it's the cord/truck or the trailer
I drove for s company that had really crappy equipment. They had one trailer in the fleet that when I hooked up to it, some lights would work, but some wouldn't. When I took the trailer over to the shop, the mechanic would check my trucks fuses and would find a couple that were blown. He would replace the fuses and they would blow again. Anyone else that pulled that trailer didn't have problems and after he replaced my fuses, I could hook up to another trailer and be fine. So for some reason, that particular trailer had something in its wiring that was just enough of a load to blow my trucks fuses, but not other trucks. They finally quit dispatching me to go bring that trailer back after I bobtailed back 3 hours round trip a couple times because I finally refused to pull it any more.
I really want to see a video of you cooking in your truck and showing us what you do in your free time. I loved those TH-cam shorts of you cooking and showing us your truck and exploring different truck stops
Every trucker should carry a spare light cord with a jumper wire from tail to clearance lights inside the plug worst case you can make a jumper with a paper clip cut in half

Since the trailer electrical service is grounded by the fifth wheel connection jack the trailer all the way down before you check your lights . Not being lazy solves alot of simple problems .
I'd love to send you something that I made, that I use frequently at work. It's a pigtail that plugs in to your truck and then has LEDs on the other end. So, you plug it in to your truck and each LED will light up with the corresponding trailer lights, thereby quickly diagnosing if you have a trailer issue or a truck issue.
Take it to the shop..!! A circuit tester would tell you if you have current to your circuits. But that trailer plug on the first trailer shouldn't be flopping in the breeze. Take it to the shop..!!
It's not hard to troubleshoot that electrical issue. Desperation is usually the motivator. You didn't get desperate enough to fix it yourself. Maybe next time.
Your pig tail plug in on trailer either bad or plug in on trailer posts are too small or that part is made in China and defective, alot of our newest trailers are messed up ,you have to twist your pig tail to put a bind on plug in to make a connection or use a piece of plastic seal as you plug in to make a connection ,imported junk parts

I've had 3 trailers in last 6 months from United that blinkers didn't work and had to wait for someone to come out and fix it. It was the trailer every time. Also once needed a crowbar to crank landing gear up and down cause handle was rusted off. Each incident the pick up location tells me "its not our trailer". You don't haul a trailer. You PULL a trailer. You HAUL Freight. 40 year trucker retired for just over a year. An MT trailer you pull not haul UNLESS you are delivering or pulling an MT for a load or delivering it to a customer for a D&H or as a new trailer delivery. Want to argue that fact like most rookies will try. I always called in about the bottom feeder steering wheel holders will argue forever about. But it could be the new breed I'd truckers that have to change things the can remember if it has 2 many words in the dispatch!!
As big as US Express is and with ALL the trailers sitting in that yard, I see no reason you didn't get another load. In my mind, either you didn't want one or that company is not that good to drive for. That dispatchers should have given you another load right away. But I've only been on the road 40 years, so what do I know!!
I was on vacation last week and saw two rigs that had this exact same problem near Arkansas. As an observer who would have been the appropriate place to call? Don't want to get the driver in trouble just want to help.
Isn’t sad truck get harassed every day but GOD forbid state troopers stop dipshit towing a boat or camper and not have proper mirrors and lights not working properly. Equal enforcement of state traffic laws stop harassing truck drivers to artificially increase your paycheck!!!! Taxpayers are paying enough already for every day products.
At least u called the company u know people in the comments will say y are u calling the company about a trailer it's not a big deal. 🤣🤣🤣well it is if he gets in trouble it's on him
You know what sucks is drivers bring a defective truck or trailer and park it say nothing. About safety defect. Where is the postoperative report on the trailer?
Rule number 1, WHEN YOU PRETRIP A LOADED TRAIL..AND YOU FIND DEFECTS.. LET THE SHIPPER KNOW THAT THE TRAILER HAS PROBLEMS..2 LET YOUR COMPANY KNOW, AND TELL THEM TO SEND SOMEONE TO FIX IT..3 NEVER LEAVE A SHIPPER, WITH A DEFECTIVE TRAILER, IF YOU LEAVE THE SHIPPER, YOU HAVE ASSUMED RESPONSIBILITY FOR THAT TRAILER, AND IT COULD BE COSTLY TO YOU..DOT..OR WAITING FOR REPAIRS..THAT BROKEN TRAILER ISN'T WORTH THE HEADACHE...SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE.
I've seen guys hook up a trailer not check anything and drive off. I think to myself I wonder how long they e able to get away with it before getting caught.

That connection box is loose.. a few basic tools to tighten it up might have done the trick.
Also your cooking looks beautiful
I been to a company they had a trailer do thos and they found out that they been blowing fuses and then they tdl there truckers to keep therel ights of til they are connected to the trailer then turn them back and and inspect the fuses and they always had a spare cable on there truck
They know it's illegal to pull it without working lights but they aren't the ones at risk if you get pulled over. Dot doesn't care if it's going to the shop or not, they'll tell you that it should be worked on before it's on the road.
Do you get to drive the same truck all the time or does the company rotate them?
Spread the pins in the socket all our trailers have this problem
How many times I ran into these things? Drop and hook, great, or nite mare? I'm with you, been there, done that.
How’s that purple seat cushion been holding up?
Take the trailer to the shop! Common Sense!
I love the full videos keep um coming your doing grate
Wow, they couldn’t just assign you a different load? Yikes
Good luck with the electrical issues, another viewer mentions turning off the trucks lightwitches when connecting makes sense cause of a serge interesting clip, and thanks for the "Cooking In Your Cab With Alex The Truckdriver" segment 😂😂, overall awesome video
Hey was you in Louisiana near hammond today I thought I might have seen you at truck stop
Hey Alex, which PURPLE cushion are you using? How does your bottom feel with all the time you spend in the driver's seat?
Linked in bio. I drove 10hrs/day and it's awesome. Surprisingly it's hasn't gone flat after using it for 1yr
it depends on if you get a trailer mechanic or a diesel mechanic that knows trailers
2 days for a electrical problem omg wtf, 1 year ago my clutch was broken, 2 hours and on the road again.
Sounds like a driver gave you a big shaft
Love your videos Alex keep up good work I like the healthy cooking on the truck your smokeless grill is all of that stay safe and blessed hammer down wheels up!!!🙌🏼🙌🏼
I'd wire up a relay setup SOS isolate ur light system and have fuses by ur plug
I'd also make up light boards and chuck it on trailers so it wasn't a issue
You don't haul a trailer. You PULL a trailer. You HAUL Freight.
40 year trucker retired for just over a year. An MT trailer you pull not haul UNLESS you are delivering or pulling an MT for a load or delivering it to a customer for a D&H or as a new trailer delivery.
Want to argue that fact like most rookies will try.
I always called in about the bottom feeder steering wheel holders will argue forever about.
But it could be the new breed I'd truckers that have to change things the can remember if it has 2 many words in the dispatch!!
Why the light is illegal?
Maintenance probably 4-5 hours depending how busy they are
As big as US Express is and with ALL the trailers sitting in that yard, I see no reason you didn't get another load. In my mind, either you didn't want one or that company is not that good to drive for. That dispatchers should have given you another load right away. But I've only been on the road 40 years, so what do I know!!
Check fuses under the hood
🤣🤣🤣well it is if he gets in trouble it's on him
Alex, Why can’t you request to get a new trailer? Why do you have to get the designated trailer fixed that you were assigned?
You know what sucks is drivers bring a defective truck or trailer and park it say nothing. About safety defect. Where is the postoperative report on the trailer?
Its the truck DORK !!!! You've blown a fuse or 2 ....you wont be taking any trailer 🤣🤣🤣
Love you dude
What were you cooking with? Looks like a nice setup
I worked for total transportation when I 1st started truck driving way way back in early 2020
Only thing common to all lites on your trailer is the ground. Your probably gonna find that's the trouble
What camera do you use ?
20 minutes being positive
I drive for us Xpress and I still have my packet for that trailer😂it had a shredded tire when I picked it up and the air lines would seal for trailer
Does your company pay retention?
