Hey man! I know Papa Becker is proud of you for doing such a great first impressions video! I like this tent a lot. Great design, good materials, and from what I’ve heard solid construction. Yeah you will get condensation but like you said it’s a feature of a single wall tent. Best condensation management is the Swedish dishcloth. Light, absorbent, cheap! Justin Outdoors used it on his crazy bear-charge thru hike (great divide trail?). I figured it was just another stupid cloth thing but I’m highly suggestible so I ordered a pack. I brought one on my 5 day then hike of the foothills trail where it was either raining or 100% humidity for 5 days. That Swedish dishcloth was freaking awesome! Easy to wipe down the inside walls, wring it out through an unzipped the the door or floor vents/mesh. On a couple of nights I did this a couple of times in the middle of the night when rain storms were causing the condensation inside my tent to rain down on me. Takes like a minute to wipe down my double rainbow li from the inside. Also great for the outside when packing up. It dries stiff and light. Highly recommended for any single wall tent. Cheapest *and* lightest solution, hot damn!

I just received this tent in the mail day before yesterday, bit nervous about how thin it is...but I love the weight of it. Excited for you and Flossy!
I used this tent on my AT thru-hike. It worked great in the beginning. But, the taped seams in the corners begin to fail and your tent will leak and make puddles in even light rain. The bathtub floor is super thin, so if there is even damp water on your ground cloth, it'll wet out. Using this tent in consecutive rainy days becomes nearly impossible.
Condensation is a feature on the PCT, just wring out your towel into your waterbottle and you're all set for morning coffee 😉 If the weather is normal, whatever that is these days, then you'll probably be camping dry until September when the rains hit Oregon and Washington.
A couple of tips: 1. You can simply tie out the tent bottom corners to the existing stakes to keep the bathtub sides up. 2. Use your poop trowel as the stake for the pullout over your head. 3. Grab four or five of those lightweight plastic grocery bags so you can use those instead of stakes under rocks or in snow and sand, they're even lighter than carrying bigger stakes...and cheap. Did I mention they're cheap? 😂

@@michaelschneider6106 that doesn’t sound like it would work at all. Plastic grocery bags??? They’d just tear if the wind got strong. I have an actual solution using mini paracord and hooks that I’m thinking of patenting and marketing and selling

I have been saving up for a Zpacks Plex solo, but I didn't realize this one was so light! It's only 4oz heaver than the plex solo but half the price. This one also has some awesome features that are done better than Zpacks tents (I have a triplex) like the large vent on the non-door side, the little gear pocket, the toggle for the middle of the trekking pole, and the piece at the bottom of the trekking pole as well. Decisions, decisions...
In the end he disliked this tent. He should have just purchased the Zpacks instead of some Chinese knock off. You get what you pay for. Cry once
I love this tent. I’ve used it on dozens of hikes so far. It takes me literally 30 seconds to pitch and the airflow is great for someone who shares their tent with a large dog! It fits me, my gear and my 90 lb Rottweiler. Im rough with my gear but the thin material does last. It stands up in the rain and high winds. That being said, I was in Pennsylvania in March once and it dropped from 70 degrees in the day, to 10 at night. Woke up with frost on my sleeping bag! It isn’t advertised as a 4 season so I can’t use that against it. Excellent product for the price.
I was solo hiking at Teddy Roosevelt once and fell asleep with the front face completely open. Watching a bison herd go by as the sunset literally made me cry lol. 😂
Super stoked to watch your hike! I hiked with the one last summer. I definitely liked the guid lines. I put a branch under them to maximize room. The chord is pretty light i would recommend taking them. Never had wind problems even above tree line in storms, the one is sturdy!

Nice light tent. Good choice. Try drilling holes in the handle of your iron skillet to save a few grams.
I have this same tent and I think you will love it like I do Kyle. I keep an S-Clip hanging from my trekking pole wrist loops and hang my ULA Ohm 2.0 from it so it is not resting on the ground. I am 6 foot and I have to always use a that loop to pull that tent wall from my head. I also always keep the vestibule open to keep the condensation to a minimum. Hiking the PCT I think you'll want that one side open anyway. Enjoy it and I would bring some tenacious tape to repair it if needed, that stuff works pretty well. I came from a tarp to this easy tent because I can literally set it up in less than 1 minute (I've timed myself). The ONLY con I think is that with the bathtub floor it often times holds little bits of leaves and dirt and crap. I have started leaving the far side trekking pole in the tent and hold that through the tent to shake it out. It helps some. You'll figure it out.

It seems like a pretty solid tent. I'm definitely in favor of a 2 person tent though, so I would spring for the 2 person version. Let's hope it holds up as well as it looks and you'll be good to go. It's almost time and that's got to be so exciting. If you film it I will watch.

I hear a lot of thru hikers like yourself talk about saving weight on tent stakes. Have you ever thought about carving you own out of sticks lying around? I have done this many times and it is really easy and they work just as good. This way you don't have to carry any and/or extra but still get the extra benefit of the extra room that tent will provide. Just a thought I would put out there. Love the channel dude! I love GG The One! I used it on my Long Trail End to End last year, and will use it again this year for another go on the LT.
The Aluminum V-Stakes that come with the Gossamer Tents do not work well in the California desert soil. I used The One Tent on the PCT and I live outside of Los Angeles where the soil is dry and hard. I would highly recommend switching out those V-Stakes for Groundhogs or stakes that work well in desert soil. Have a great time on the PCT!

I’ve owned this tent and it’s definitely solid
You should try out the Six Moons Lunar Solo. Way roomier, only needs one trekking pole, never needed a ground cloth and sheds wind better. When you add up the weight of the stuff sack, guy lines, ground cloth and extra trekking pole required (but not included with the listed GG One tent weight), the Lunar Solo is lighter, roomier and a bit cheaper.
If you are worried about headspace and wind, I would bring the cord and stakes to use those extra tie downs above your head and feet. Not only do they give you a small bit of extra room, they will give the tent extra stability in high winds

Price and weight is good for what it is. True test of several months use then review is required before I will have enough info but this is a good intro.

I like the looks of it for the price. However I just bought a new Skyscape Trekker as a 2020 Christmas gift to myself, and it looks like the GG One might not be quite big enough for this six foot hiker. I look forward to seeing how it works for you and maybe getting a second tent as a 2022 Christmas gift.
I got heat exhaustion more then a few times working logging in the Sierra Nevadas during the summer in my early 20s. Careful out there
For a fraction of the cost you can get a Geertop 1 man single layer 3 season tent with a good sized vestibule. Worth checking out even if slightly heavier at just under 2 lbs and HH is 3000mm. Don't think I'd trust a tent with less than 3000 mm hh.
The One is good for weight and ease of setup but in my opinion it’s biggest flaw is that when there’s a lot of water on it (let’s use Washington rainstorms for example) the seams in the corners leak and some mornings you’ll wake up with puddles at both ends of the tent
Also the zippers are pretty low quality (on the 2020 model at least)
Would much rather get an X-Mid. The single walled design of the One and the annoying pole in the middle of the door are major downsides of the Gossamer Gear tents.
I know Dixie from Homemade Wanderlust does enjoy her's though.
I had this tent 2023 on the PCT and had thrown it after two weeks in a hiker box. Yes, this year, the PCT was very wet and rainy as well as cold, but I do not need a tent that absorbs the entire moisture of all of California. The space in the tent is also very limited and getting in and out is very tedious, plus you get wet when you get out if you roll up the tarpaulin. Conclusion: Never again a single wall tent !! Now I have my 900 .- $ Hilleberg double wall freestanding tent and I am very satisfied.

I think you'll be pretty happy with The One. I have the older model and I've really liked it. I have at least 40-50 nights in it and its been great. Condensation can be an issue but that's the same on any single wall tent. Keep the doors open as much as you can and it helps. Its been solid in high winds and a few hail storms and the usual rain and stuff. I swapped out the stuff sack with a dynema bag to keep it dry in the rain. if it gets wet overnight I just stuff it lose in the front pocket of my pack so it can dry out somewhat. But in the bag I keep it in one of the side pockets of my pack usually.

Owned a single wall before I found my current double wall trekking pole tent…. I used to keep a bandana next to me to just wipe the condensation away a bit in the morning before packing it up. Worked great and also kept the tent from getting mold and shit in it.

One last comment: if you carry some extra stakes to stake out the bathtub, it helps with the wind.

I like single wall tents never really had any problem with them you might try using some water proofing spray
The wind and super dry conditions out west could prevent the condensation issues.

That's actually a pretty lightweight tent. My skatepacking tent is a glorified bivy and it's three and a half pounds (56 oz)...
What to put in that little pocket? My glasses, headlamp, maybe some tissues if I have a cold or when allergies kicked in.

Incorrect. Single wall tents vent just as well as double wall tents - it's just that you're in closer physical proximity to the condensation inside a single wall tent.
The water proofing spray might keep down the condensation
Yo Kyler, when you do your PCT thing it would be cool if you were kinda detailed about things like logistics and itinerary because I’m trying to plan a PCT hike and I’m not great at planning logistically. So an seeing a model of how that’s done in real time over the course of your hike would help a lot. So if you could tailor your videos to my needs specifically a little bit it would be so dope. Little tent wall pockets get wet. Only bagged electronics and flashlights. Good spot for a headlamp lamp. Save a few forehead zits. Zippy

I would keep a small microfiber hand towel in the pocket so I could wipe down the inside condensation. I have a SD DivineLight that is very similar and the little rag is a lifesaver. Weighs maybe an ounce if that.

Although it seems counterintuitive, according to the manufacturer the tip of the trekking pole is supposed to be in the grommet pointing upwards, not the handle as you've done it.
Are you getting excited yet? I am for you to get going. I see lots of fire closures but you should be ok for a while at the start. This tent is pretty nice and the price can not be beat for under 18 ounces.

To stake out the floor, you should attach a piece of shock cord to each floor corner that will reach out to your stakes your using to pitch the tent. I have a similar tent (different brand) and that's what I do. It works really well.

Yup! That’s what I do and it works perfect, I’m a huge fan of The One, I’ve put it through some serious PNW storms and it’s held up really well. I just leave 1/2 vestibule door open through the night and never had major issues w cond. the shock cord mod is my fave though

My impressions of The One: if it's raining the inside walls will be SUPER wet and if you touch them your hand will get very wet so you have to sleep without touching the walls and accepting that water will drip down the inside into the floor. Polycryo ground sheets... they do almost nothing to protect the tent. I just don't get it at all. Oh the tent is also kind of royal pain in the ass to figure out how to setup right and balanced/symmetrical.
I tend to need pockets inside the tent for: my glasses, headlamp, bandana to wipe the wet fucking One down, etc.
Oh on the vestibule: I was able to fit my Atmos 50 under it. I use a tarp as a ground sheet (that is larger) which I fold in to fit underneath and then I unfold part of it out under the vestibule to protect my pack from the ground.
And in time 5min 14s Kyle gets to start pitching the tent.
