@ I totally agree with you. Speculated owls are ambush hunters which means they perch and scan the area until prey comes along. They’re practically silent when flying, like the great horned owl, and they attack their prey with one pounce. Fish gotta swim, owls gotta eat. The double edged sword, or the other side of that coin is that we as humans are inadvertently making the predators job much easier by providing a food source that is easily accessible to prey animals, such as mice, etc. i’ll bet you a cup of coffee and a doughnut that that owl and other predators know that feeder is there and therefore they really don’t have to put much into hunting. They just have to perch nearby and wait. I’m guessing that since the she did not eat the animal whole that it actually has an owlet or two nearby and so therefore that food source is vital for their survival.
2 women at the zoo freaked when they realized the owl we were watching was eating a mouse. I wanted to ask, "What do you think its eating? A candy bar?" SMH. Beautiful bird, those wings and feathers!
