Ironically, this song was inspired by and dedicated to his wife Lisa Bonet at a very difficult time in their lives. In the end, they went their separate ways but still maintained a solid relationship. No wrangling or bad words in public. Class !

Timeless is the perfect word to describe this song. I first heard it on an album my parents had circa 2000 and then I was amazed to find out it actually came out the year I was born 1991. And most people say it sounds like a song out of the 70’s not the 90’s. That’s the timeless effect it has it sounded like a nostalgic song in 1991 when it was new and it still sounds like a great bit of nostalgia that hasn’t dated a bit even though it’s over 30 years old you wouldn’t even think that if you didn’t know.
This is one of my favorites by Lenny Kravitz. I believe he wrote this song around the time of his breakup with Lisa Bonet. I hated to see them breakup. However, they were blessed with a lovely daughter.
He couldn't stay faithful to Lisa and she respected herself enough to leave. Great song! Lenny's mom is Roxie Roker, she played Helen Willis on the sitcom "The Jeffersons".
Lenny is one of the most underrated artists . Amazing voice , amazing writer and composer . This that type of song you can hear 1000 times and it still sounds great ! When you acomplish that with 3 or more songs , you are a legend. And lenny has many great songs . God bless your talent Lenny . 🤗
He wrote this after Lisa left him in an attempt to get her back. It didn’t work. He was unfaithful and he got caught. Still a great song. One of my all time favs.
The first time I heard this song was in 2010. A coworker of mine would play it repeatedly at the restaurant where we worked, and where I spent 15 years of my life. It's strange, but I vividly remember the first time I heard it was on September 10th of that year. I liked it instantly, and I even asked my friend to lend me the CD. I arrived home at midnight and the first thing I did was play it. For the rest of that year, I played it every chance I got. The next day, I transferred it to my phone using a physical cable, since my phone at the time didn't have Wi-Fi. I don't understand how I stopped listening to it; it's as if it had been erased from my mind. After that year, I don't remember listening to it again. It's very strange, because I never looked for it, I completely forgot about it. On October 15th, 2022, a friend from high school got married, and in the minutes leading up to the party, the DJ played it on the playlist he had as background music. When I heard it, it was as if something had been activated in my brain. It brought back many feelings, many memories. What magic, what power music has! But it's truly strange that I had completely forgotten about it for so many years. It's a beautiful gem.
Remember how the grown folks would play this in the background and we didn't know what it was all about? now we do.. thanks Lenny orchestra rich and doors reminiscent.. beautiful
November 2024, Lenny brought that music to our souls with lyrics with meaning. I always listen to this guy while having blunts, hahahahahaha, perfect match ahahahaah

We went to his show last night in Niagara falls Canada and he crushed it. It was amazing! Woke up with this song on my head and I had to hear it again. Go Lenny!
I can't remember how old I was. But I was a mere child. In my room with my small boombox listening to this CD, played this song so much while doing homework or drawing. My mom used to say I always listening to songs as if I was a broken hearted child. 🖤 My sister used to laugh at how emotional I got listening to this song. How I wish I can go back to those moments and hug her. She passed when she was only 11 and I wish I can just hear her laugh...even if it was at me. 🖤
I used to LOVE Lenny Kravitz as a young adult, and …Mama Said is a great album. This came out in 1991, the summer before senior year. I feel melancholy hearing this…I miss my youth, my loves…

And You Never Give Up on Hope, even if it Crushes You! Im Not Giving Up ANY Piece of Hope, as long as there's a chance of Hope!
An amazing song. Never knew that Lenny sang this song. Thought it was a song from one of the Motown groups of the 70s. Ciao from Little Italy 🇮🇹 Montréal
I was going to say that I hear a bit of Earth, Wind & Fire in this song, so although they're from the windy city of Chicago and were not signed to Motown, we're still not too far apart. Their song "That's the Way of the World" from '75 is my best example of an EWF song which influenced Lenny in this song, but of course he's also a big fan of Motown artists like Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder and there's not much in this song that exposes it's from 1990 and not the 70s as you thought.
@@WillGaige Earth Wind and Fire one of favorite bands: Songs that I still listen to at least once a week September , Let's Groove, That's the Way of the World. I have seen every Motown act that passed through Montréal and the most memorable were Gladys Knight and the Pips and Harold Melville and the Blue Notes: why? Had the opportunity to briefly meet with them after the show. Ciao from Little Italy 🇮🇹 Montréal
@@doncorleone8686 I checked the wiki-page for this song and it also mentions that EWF song I spoke of as a particular source of inspiration for Lenny in this case. It also says that this is from '91, but interestingly the horn line (@ 3:20) of this song is actually performed by the Phenix Horns from Earth, Wind & Fire.
@@WillGaige to be honest with you I remember very little of the 90s. My knowledge for this time period are either from references to Wikipedia, old TH-cam clips or information from people like yourself. I appreciate the information. Ciao from Little Italy 🇮🇹 Montréal

Ironically, this song was inspired by and dedicated to his wife Lisa Bonet at a very difficult time in their lives. In the end, they went their separate ways but still maintained a solid relationship. No wrangling or bad words in public. Class !
Love that about them..and him and Jason being close, and raising Zoe and the other kids all together as one family..It's amazing..A true rarity in the world

A Timeless Kravitz Classic that has stood (and will continue to stand...) the test of time - and surely will be rediscovered and covered by generations to come!
One of the most beautiful songs I ever heard honestly. It’s just genuine soul.
[Verse 1]
Here we are still together
We are one
So much time wasted
Playing games with love
[Chorus]
So many tears I've cried
So much pain inside
But, baby, it ain't over 'til it's over
So many years we've tried
To keep our love alive
But, baby, it ain't over 'til it's over
[Verse 2]
How many times
Did we give up?
But we always worked things out
And all my doubts and fears
Kept me wondering, yeah
If I'd always, always be in love
[Chorus]
So many tears I've cried
So much pain inside
But, baby, it ain't over 'til it's over
So many years we've tried
And kept our love alive
But, baby, it ain't over 'til it's over
[Instrumental Interlude]
[Bridge]
Ooo-hoo
Ooo
Ooo-hooo
Ooo
Ooo-hoo
[Chorus]
So many tears I've cried
So much pain inside
But, baby, it ain't over 'til it's over
So many years we've tried
And kept our love alive
'Cause, baby, it ain't over 'til it's over
So many tears I've cried
So much pain inside
But, baby, it ain't over 'til it's over
So many years we've tried
To keep our love alive
'Cause, baby, it ain't over 'til it's over
(Over, over, over)
So many tears we've cried
So much pain inside
But, baby, it ain't over 'til it's over
So many years we've tried
To keep our love alive
'Cause, baby, it ain't over 'til it's over
(Over, over, over, over)
[Outro]
So many tears we've cried
So much pain inside
Baby, it ain't over 'til it's over
Over

Timeless song. Brilliant bass line throughout.
needed to know the song because of the bass line ^-^
it was heard to do...before TH-cam and shazam etc. etc. etc.

GREAT BASS LINE

I couldn't have put it better myself, dear Daniel-of-Hernandez !!!

Masterpiece, never gets old.❤
He wrote this after Lisa left him in an attempt to get her back.

Remember how the grown folks would play this in the background and we didn't know what it was all about? now we do.. thanks Lenny orchestra rich and doors reminiscent.. beautiful

One of the 70's sounding songs from the 90's
Yes!😊
I was searching for this info, thank you! It really does sound 70s to me, but the music video had a newer quality to it... Very easy listening!
I mean your not wrong! Earth,Wind and Fire was part of the inspiration in making the song. That and unfortunately his failing Marriage.
There was a strong late 60s-early 70 s revival in 1989-92 from music to fashion. This could be sung by the Chilites

An amazing song. Never knew that Lenny sang this song. Thought it was a song from one of the Motown groups of the 70s.
