Emma is such a special person. I remember thinking when she was younger that she would change the world, because there was something so enduring about her in a leader/intellect type of way. She at such a young age has done that, and I have no doubt that she will make a tsunami sized splash in everything she strives to change. Emma is such a breath of fresh air

Well nothing for us privileged men to do at this point but stand around the fireplace puffing our pipes in our robes and slippers while the lowly women bring us our tea and crumpets while we talk all that patriarchy stuff.
Damn, feminist man-hater, what a bizarre world in which your mind resides.
Naturally, you needed to dredge up the past to find any form of oppression today. That credit card thingie, straight out of your gender studies textbook, was cute and all but answer this one straightforward question.
What rights by law do men have that Western women, the most privileged and entitled subset of society in the history of the world, do not? Now this may be hard to admit, but there are none. But hey, I could be wrong, so in order to show me up, make me appear so so wrong, you only have to name ONE thing. Good luck.....you'll need it.
Feminism is the radical notion that women are oppressed by a society that caters to their every demand.

I relate to so many things in this interview but one thing that really hit home was the notion of crying when I am angry. I'm not sure what the reason behind this is but as long as i've known, I have cried when I am angry. And constantly have had reactions from people apologizing for hurting my feelings or telling me not to be sad. It's somewhat humiliating, not to cry, but to be told my feelings are hurt. My crying at things that I deem wrong is not hurt but resilience to what made me angry. I am not sad, I am strong. I am not weak, I know what right and wrong should be.

We get whole by venturing into what is considered to be right for the other gender. That makes sense. We miss out on a lot if we strictly stick to our gender roles and what is considered appropriate. Not just socially (e.g. guys learning to be sensitive and girls learning to be leaders), but even just practically. Any girl will be more whole as a human if she understands cars and can fix simple things around the house and any guy - if he can do housework, mend clothes and take care of babies.

In regards to the arguement that gender equality will be addressed after more "important" issues are solved has been the standard for as long as gender equality rights have been fought for. It had always been a bargaining chip, the carrot before the horse. It has always been we will address your issues after we solve ours, and there has always been inequity. We've always been told we will get ours after we support theirs. And we kept making that exchange, time after time, out of hope. In a way, just to be able to say that we've not been unreasonable, that we've done everything they've asked of us, that we exhausted that resource. So when we decide to no longer put our rights at the mercy of our oppressors, we are villainized. We are demonized as the hysterical group that has to be protected from their own destruction. These arguments have always been the excuses for why we are still denied the right to live as the sole proprietor of our bodies. The right to manifest our own destinies. The right to choose or not choose motherhood, marriage, careers, be homemakers, to love and marry who we want, to live without violence, to not have women murdered, to have our abusers held accountable, to protect our women and children from sexual violence, to heal from our traumas, to end the normalization of trauma, and all on our terms. Oppression has many forms but liberation has only one: total.

Interesting watch, very inspiring. "Humanism", though, is a concept that doesn't specifically means something about believing in God (Although maybe for US citizens it means that, I wouldn't know) It means believing in the human being, that the human being can influence History, that what matters are your actions and believing in supporting other human beings and supporting culture (The study of humane litterae, humanistic studies) During the 1400 there was a huge cultural movement in Europe that was primarly concerned with empowering human beings.

Crying is perceived in such a way because it shows that being overwhelmed with emotions disturbs the contribution to rational thinking. There is emotional thinking and rational thinking, to many men (me included) when someone cries it shows weakness on the rational process of that person. Is it wrong to cry? No, but many people don't realize that men and woman are different and deal with things differently, not letting men or women to cry cripples then their ability of expression. What needs to be shared is that crying isn't the solution but a process of regaining strength. It is a great tool when used properly (crying all the time isn't exactly efficient either). People need to learn to balance their emotional and rational expression/thoughts, that is being human, being one or the other "masculine" and "feminine" (or at least perceived that way) and truly know themselves. All of these problems come from lack of confidence in ourselves as individuals and as humankind destroying earth.

At around 16:00, about there being more men than women now in terms of the world's population, China's "one-child only" policy had a lot a do with that, since that culture is historically one of the most extreme patriarchal societies. Countless female fetuses were aborted after that policy was effected. Now China's finally realizing its error by suffering the shortage of women - their men are now importing/buying wives from nearby countries.

"It's not that we're somehow so wonderful, it's just that we don't constantly have to prove our masculinity" really important statement! Often times feminists claim that they don't have any gender beliefs, but then sooner or later they say something that implies... `we need women in politics/decision-making institutions, because women are seemingly better at it´ and then I sigh... because it's hypocritical to me. I love how Gloria Steinem didn't make that move. With her statement she referred to the different socialisation of men and women, where men have to stay tough and not show any signs of weakness and women are allowed to do that and therefore have a certain liberty at handling things that can be helpful.

I'd say that the people that you refer to in your 2nd to last sentence there, for some reason have their being and sexuality distorted at some really deep level.
Still 'Making Love' is much, much better than just X - I don't know if people can really have it both ways. Perhaps it's like getting ones taste buds numbed out if one eats too much rich food, then the good stuff isn't so good or even noticed or cared about any more.

@JmeTN To answer your first reply, I don't know if disassociating sex from love and being loved and being loving and kind is something that most people would really want. A good number of people would rather do without than do it without love.
Another disassociation that people often make is disassociating love making from procreation. I feel like every child has a right to be conceived in love,... as well as the consent and choice of both parents.

Feminism is equality. The end. Men have rights to their bodies that women do not. Which is why feminism is absolutely necessary. Abortion isn't a SOCIAL ISSUE. Roe vs Wade impacted insane amounts of legal/medical issues all over. RvsW helped lgbtq+ in the courts. It was used to defend a plethora of different types of issues (not abortion related). HIPPA violations. all sorts of stuff, RvsW was brought up in court successfully. With that overturned, we have a shit-show of social WRONGDOINGS about to be served on our plate. Terminating unwanted pregnancies' is SUCH A SMALL part of legal abortions. Atopic pregnancies, high-risk pregnancies', fetal death in womb, all these things require abortions and happen FAR MORE FREQUENTLY than "woops, you knocked me up!" and NOW WOMEN CANT DO THAT BECAUSE WHY????????

GS states she wants to removing he/she titles yet we have more gender titles than ever and adding more gender titles at whim. Still confused, I'm fine with the titles, but apparently GS is not? She states she would prefer simply human. How does the F movement advance with such inconsistency in interpretation, definition, direction etc. I don't see this interview as supporting the F movement today. She is not the radical F that wants to eliminate the WCM ruling class.....
