    Just to add info here. I am 80 years old. Our families and I all pioneered in new lands. 🇨🇦 All of our wells were found through devining rods. We lived where it was hard to find water. I could find water using a forked will stick at 28 yrs. . An older man witched our well and he told us how many feet to dig and how much water we would have. He dug our well and was right on. I have seen many men and women do this.

    I have to thank you for your podcast! A friend told us about it last year and me and my husband binge listened to every single episode starting at one and got caught up right before you started this year following Come Follow Me. We feel like we “leveled up” our testimonies and have such a deeper understanding of the church, God, his prophets and even of ourselves. It has changed me is so many ways! I can’t thank you enough!

      I was born in upstate New York on a farm and growing up there my uncle used a divining rod to find water that we would then drill for our animals. I remember being a kid seeing him walk around with it and I thought it was very silly. I tried a couple times myself and one day it worked for me and pointed down I'm not sure to believe in it or not.

    You mentioned the divining rods and that you typically have people who their dad has done something well. I saw my dad do it and he showed me how and I've done it and I can't explain it but I can say that it seems to point to water. Never thought of it as a spiritual gift. Just thought of it as a physical relationship with the Earth or something I don't know. Super fascinating

    My father was able to witch water with a forked peach limb. If gold or silver were placed in the fork of the limb he would be able to find them as well. His grandfather showed him how to do it. I have one brother that was able to do it as well. My father never would use the gift except to find water lines, which anyone can do by using 2 coat hangers

    In reference to "devineing rod" (about minute 52) - As I kid I watched both my Grandfather and my Father at different times and different locations, miles apart, use devineing rods to choose the location to dig wells - both of which when hand-dug, found water at about 30-35 feet below the surface of the ground. It was a commonly accepted practice in the mid 1950's to locate water wells this way. Though I don't understand it, there is a scientific basis for the operation when finding water. Don't know about minerals.
    Love your insights into church history and The Doctrine and Covenants.

    One thought that came to me relates to the "study it out" then ask. I have had many questions as I have read the scriptures and attended my meeting and gone to the Temple.
    What I have discovered is that over time, either the answer comes directly through a talk from conference or another lesson; or the answer comes through clarity because of other scriptures that I read and or learn about.
    As I have continued to "study it out" and remained faithful to the commandments and my covenants and keep the line of communication open through prayer, "translation" or "understanding in MY language" comes.

    Years ago, I was in the Idaho Falls Temple, back when Live people performed in the Endowment. This particular day I don’t know why, I was pondering upon some trouble in my current life situation, when a voice told me that the men as Peter James and John were really Peter, James and John…it was so…can’t describe this moment…went home and wrote in my journal about it.

    My grandfather used rods to find where to put the well for our farm and houses when I was kid in 1975. There is actually a scientific principal behind "water witching".

    Your conclusions about revelation are right on the experiences most people are having. So many feel like they don’t receive revelation, but I agree that we haven’t yet learned how we receive or we aren’t that open to the whole idea. Nevertheless I can see that Joseph was remarkable and a prophet and it was a miracle and I can find truth in my life through his revelations.

    Thinking about the "gift of Aaron," I believe the use of the rod of Aaron to find water in the desert wilderness can be viewed as a clear connection to the replacement of divining "sprouts" jn the descriptive language Joseph used in his history.

    It is interesting that Oliver Cowdery dies soon after rejoining the church. This does leave the door open to the idea that Oliver Cowdery was replaced by Hyrum Smith when it comes to being martyred. The idea being that Oliver Cowdery was meant to return to heaven during a certain time and that time would have been with Joseph Smith. However, Oliver left the saints and the church. It would seem the Lord was was waiting for Oliver to return before calling him home.

    Oliver has the gift of Arron... this rod (I believe) in part because God set him up as a type of Aaron. 2 Nephi 3
    I believe Lehi prophesies of the 4 Joseph's and specifically says Joseph Smith jr will be a type of Moses. Then it talks about how Moses was given Aaron to help him.
    The chapter talks about how Aaron was a more educated mouthpiece, Aaron to dictate for Moses, Aaron had this rod, Aaron had the priesthood, Aaron was Moses 2nd in command. The exact same roles as Oliver to Joseph!

I am wondering if, in the future you could do a podcasts just on the people, their stories and testimonies.. hearing about Alvin’s testimony and faith in his brother and this things that he saw, strengthen my testimony; and over and over with Martin Harris and Oliver Cowdrey and how they continued to bear witness not the truthfulness of the BOM, until their death. So maybe in the future you could interview those who have done biographies on those people and all the other personalities I would love to get to know better.. ??? MY WISH LIST FOR FUTURE PODCASTS. Hope you get this msg :) 🤞🏻🤞🏻 God bless you - Your testimonies strengthens mine !

    When I think about Joseph and how he used the seer stone, I cant help think about my phone and the technology we have today. Phones are made from materials that are taken from the earth. We can see the past with them, tallk to other people that are far away and learn new things. If we can use materials to make a gadget that can do those things, I am sure God could have done the same. It might also explain maybe why we don't see more seer stones today. Just my thoughts

Believe you are learning to appreciate your Divine Parents and their preparations for you as you follow their son Jesus Christ. Abraham 1 reveals Abraham's father was at least complicit in taking Abraham's life. Many people must only look to our Heavenly Father, and believe in His timing.

Please consider not calling the book of sacred scripture the D&C, but making the effort to use its full name as it’s not that many syllables more and is much more respectful. Do we have any clue how Oliver tried to translate? Was he given copied characters and some basic instruction? We know Joseph Smith was using the SEER stone in a hat but didn't the words appear on the stone? I'm certainly naive about this but what amount of "studying it out in your mind" does reading the translation off a stone require?

    • @WellnessFree-tj6vw
      @WellnessFree-tj6vw 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      That's a question I've asked myself before. I wonder if it could relate to the several months Joseph had already worked on studing out the process of using the seer stone(s) and urim and thummim. He could have been studying the process of translation, not the words themselves. We all get to study them out so we understand them the way God wants us to.

    Very fine discussion overall. However, it is marred by Scott's repeated statements (see at the 13, 25 and 1 hour 8 minute marks) that the translation was carried out by Joseph looking at stones in his hat and not the plates. This is sloppy shoddy scholarship which blends very separate and contradictory sources. Joseph and Oliver never mentioned the use of the hat or Joseph's scrying stone. Instead they both stated in writing that the translation came from the plates using the interpreters which came with the plates. The idea of the plates not being used and instead a seer stone in hat as the source contradicts Joseph and Oliver's testimonies, and is based instead on late problematic sources which have been shown to be dubious and unreliable. I do appreciate that you refer to the interpreters and thus do not ascribe the entire Book of Mormon we have to Joseph's scrying stone alone, as many others do who slavishly accept David Whitmer's accusations. However, you are still giving your viewers a false understanding of how the Book of Mormon was translated. Even if you are going to continue to reject Joseph and Oliver's accounts, shouldn't you at least inform your viewers that Joseph's and Oliver's accounts ascribe the Book of Mormon to the plates and interpreters which came with the plates, and that the hat and the scrying stone come from other sources which contradict Joseph and Oliver?

    • @EskiMoe24
      @EskiMoe24 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Exactly. It's crazy how quickly the words of those who had nothing to do with the translation have been allowed to replace the words of those who did and scripture itself concerning how the translation occurred.
