You do really good Dave. I like how you give history on the song & person. I'm not too much into folk music but you made it better. My wife & I enjoy watching you. Good reaction.

Kate has a beautiful voice, and I love her guitar playing. If you get the opportunity Dave, check out Molly Tuttle, Gental on my mind

This 1985 episode of Austin City Limits was where I first discovered Kate Wolf. She performed here just a few months before being diagnosed with Leukemia. Within a year she had passed away. She was a great talent gone too soon. Her songs: Friend of Mind, Eyes of a Painter, and Give Yourself to Love, are also worth checking out.

I was at that Austin City Limits taping. There was so much love between Kate Wolf and the audience.

thanks for highlighting her Kate Wolf. This performance is my era and niche - I'm surprised I've not heard of her until now. Beautiful guitar and I love her somewhat lower than normal vocal register. I'm going to have to go find more.
Another female who promotes goosebumps is Eva Cassidy. I only know of her singing covers, but she makes them her own. She is also an artist gone too soon. There is one black and white video of a live concert th-cam.com/video/SgBTG_HOvMQ/w-d-xo.html. "over the rainbow" is often what people hear first (44:40 on the video), but my favorite of hers may be "Autumn Leaves" (13:20 of the video). She has a jazzier side which is also worth exploring. Eva makes me reminisce with bittersweet memories.

I'm like you, how is it that this is the first time I am hearing of her? Her voice is throaty and deep, like a purr. and the harmonization provides a resonance that hits you in the chest. I love finger picked guitar, as you can see, she is thumb picking the top strings of the chord alternately to provide the baseline Travis Style. Nina Gerber is using a pick to single note pick strings individually. It all works together to make for a haunting song, reminiscent of Emmylou Harris' Tulsa Queen, BTW, Emmylou Harris' recording of Kate's song "Love Still Remains" was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1999. Kate’s Guitar was Built by David Matlin of Matlin Guitars, Mendocino, CA.. Defiantly Austin City limits good eye!

Dave, I love the controlled haunting acoustic sound in this video. It's as if you're afraid to move because you will miss something small (that really isn't small). This melody sort of floats atop the atmosphere and you actually do get goosebumps, or as you once said, "the feels". I loved watching your reaction to this performance. She has such a "perfect" voice. Her vocal instrument is just as powerful as the acoustic guitar she plays and reminded me a bit of Joni Mitchell, I think. What a masterful little gem you have found! I have heard her sing, "Here in California" - just so beautiful you can hardly speak once the song has ended - another strong acoustic piece. Thank you for posting this lovely composition.

Caught the same vibe you did when she turned to sing to the guy. Can't believe I haven't heard her before, such a clear melodic tone, love it! Going to go research her now. Thanks for bringing Kate to our attention Dave, beautiful! 🦋

There was a similar glance earlier in the song as well, it made wonder about a Stevie Nicks / Lindsey Buckingham ... Silver springs moment.

@critterwatcher8009 I saw that as well and made me think of that exact same video! Difference being the obvious tension between Stevie and Lindsey. I saw them perform the Rumors tour and it was pretty strange. Can't imagine how they got through it all on a nightly basis!

@ Wish I was able to have seen them. Since it went on nightly some of it must have been showmanship, but it was based on real emotions. Years later she would choke up with "Goodbye"

Try "Here in California" and also the cover by AJ Lee (take the version from "Bob Corden" channel).
My apologies. It is extremely difficult to find the original. I am listening to it on a channel called "Clo" with 8 subscribers.

What a gem and a perfect example of less is often more. Seems an anomaly in the 80's though.
