Wonderful stuff. I'm so pleased to listen to Bennett again. He brings the world back into focus with his wit and nostalgia. A good Leeds Loiner of the old school. Sadly very rare nowadays.
Such a treat when it appears I listen to Alan diaries to get to sleep it usually takes me 18 months to hear a full diary but I never tire of the first soothing 15 mins - this year I’m choosing to fully listen first before my bedtime listen
@@emmadundas8504 me too! Bennett at Bedtime every night here. I’ve tried lots of different sounds and stories over the years, but he is my tried and trusted and I don’t listen to anyone else now. I love him!
I absolutely love 'The Uncommon Reader' - recommending it, re-reading it and now, unable to read, listening to the matchless Bennett's audio version. Like Gallico's 'Snow Goose' a book giving endless pleasure. Thank you Alan Bennett for your readings.
Many thanks for this. I attended one of the first performances of A Question of Attribution at the National and remember the excitement in the audience when Prunella Scales entered the stage.
Love the Venice description. And all the understated ironies, in casual or spiked observation - - "By the time I'd got round to Liz Truss, she'd gone" - - ambling over the cobbles for the next half-hour. There's real art to inhabiting sentences in the seemingly effortless way AB does. 6:35 "Firbank it was rather than Wilde." Ohh how AB should have had his own chapter in 'Camp In Literature'!
Another diary to be enjoyed and listened to multiple times in the coming months. Agree with Mr Bennett that CJ Sansom's Shardlake series of Tudor detective novels more enjoyable than Mantel's Wolf Hall. Although quite what Disney+'s proposed tv series will be like one wonders.
Thank you Mr. Bennett. Sending much admiration for you and your work from NYC. A healthy New Year to you and Rupert-- with many more diaries to come. 🕊️
I love this man. I hope there's a diary for 2024. And '25 xx
What a wonderfully brilliant man! The mention of Barry Cryer was precious! I love that he has another super power with his new hearing aids!

Wondefful. Thank you.
I like the by-play with the other person, and the return to the text. Really nice moments. Happy New Year.

Its become a yearly tradition of mine, your missive and a long bath.
Sad to see the bath shorter this year.
But still glad to hear your voice.

Will there ever be another ?..Of course not . Truly the mould was broken in his case . Long may he reign as the genius of our time .

Love the aside about beyond the fringe and the queen being in the audience .
Wonderful, I too much prefered the Shardlake stories.
No sign of his 2023 diary? Hope Mr Bennett is ok😢
