    I have two years infosec in December 2021. I’m going for this exam. Sys admin and network engineer background. I know Linux basics and I have my CCNP Security. I’m currently working as a network admin. I’m looking to study 5 months out and kill the exam!

    Thanks for the videos! I wonder what would be the materials/books to fresh up the Windows/Linux commands? other than the Wireshark and Nmap, any other tools should be looked at?

      Not really, the exam didn’t go too in depth into those topics aside from Nmap and even then it was just the switches. I do recommend Windows Powershell in 30 Lunches as a side note.

    Would you say the ec assessment questions are similiar to what is on the real exam. Trying to get an understanding of the wording/difficulty vs comptia questions

      Norman Mink If you are familiar with Nmap/terminology then these questions are easier than CompTIA.

      TyrantDevil To me it’s not so much the source of the material but what is easiest for you to read and concentrate on. This is why I recommend the McGraw Hill book as it worked best for me due to the writing style and straightforwardness.

    Hi, I am on the same boat as far as the general experience and lacking some of the hands on the networking side. I am working on my CEH, but what I really wanted to ask you about is about employment opportunities... you said you already have a job, is it civilian or government. I am in government, and want to cross over to private sector, but it seems that they are looking for people with tons of experience, so I was wondering what is your take on that. Thanks

    • @tonberryhugs6435
      @tonberryhugs6435  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I am in the public sector. For experience you need to list your accomplishments in the form of numbers and popular programs/software you have used. The "you need experience to get hired but you cant get experience if you're never hired" idea reflects on a resume that needs improvements in presentation of past performance in most cases.

    • @tonberryhugs6435

      Honestly Security+ is still fundamental and much cheaper than CEH. I would look at job postings and see what they are seeking, keep in mind that it is often a wishlist.

    • @tonberryhugs6435
      @tonberryhugs6435  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Atlanta Guitar If your organization wants to become accredited or if it’s needed for a cyber contractor or government role, then it’s really just checking a box to gain or maintain employment. Depends on your career goals. If you only want to work in network engineering, this is a pass. If you want to secure those networks and dip your toe into hacking, this is a good start above Security+.

    Dear Sir, I'm a fresher. I want to pursue a career in cybersecurity. As I already joined for CEH training, would you still insist not to take up CEH and start with Security +? CEH will do, right?
    And Could you just explain the difference between Network Security and Cybersecurity, please?

    • @tonberryhugs6435
      @tonberryhugs6435  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Security+ is a solid foundation and is required for jobs more often than CEH on job postings. That being said, CEH can be done without having Security+ but you may have to study a bit longer. EC Council also requires a certain about of experience and a fee before being able to take their exams. Network Security is simply the network piece of the overall cybersecurity discipline, similar to endpoint security or physical security. Network security is most commonly discussed as most assets are connect to the Internet today and thus pose a risk.

      Anmol Singh It’s not hard if you know the material in the books. They aren’t trick questions, just don’t rush. If you’re still nervous closer to the exam date then spend the $100 for Boson tests too.

    • @tonberryhugs6435
      @tonberryhugs6435  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on your learning style but I am 99% confident that books are the way to go. Ive done online and in-person training for certs and noticed no real improvement vs self-paced study. Get the books I referenced in this video. Another great one for pentesting is 'Penetration Testing: A Hands Introduction to Hacking' by No Starch Press (Weidman).

    Hi am currently a student studying cis but am passionate about cybersecurity. What kind of projects would you recommend I do to make me standout and get a job entry level wise

    • @tonberryhugs6435
      @tonberryhugs6435  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! CIS is is the basis for cybersecurity work so you're on the right track. Pay very close attention to anything network related as all attacks (with the exception of social engineering in some cases) come back to network manipulation. ISO model, protocols, ports, countermeasures, firewalls, and all of these sorts of topics will help you grow. Getting into Wireshark, nmap, Snort, etc are all helpful and listing them on your resume can get attention.
