I remember this like it was yesterday. I was 15y.o. He did a drum clinic in my country. After the clinic there was an autograph signing. I brought all my Mr. Big albums which were all cassettes. However, the organizer said he can only sign 2 items per person. After Pat signed 2 of my items the organizer was pushing us away and I told Pat that I have always been a fan ever since I was a little boy. And he said these exact words 'If you can wait, I will finish up all these people in line then I will sign all of yours'. I waited but the organizer pushed us away and out the door. As Pat finished, I was out the door but was able to yell loud enough for him to hear me. I yelled 'Hey Pat, I waited as you told me' He called me back in and took me with him to his dressing room and signed all my Mr. Big memorabilla. There was a funny moment when I brought out all my cassettes and a VHS tape of their Live in San Francisco concert. Pat's reaction was 'Oh my God, where did you get all these cassettes? You dont seem to be old enough to have all these'. He did sign all of them. He was larger than life. He was a rockstar but never acted like one. He was so down to earth. These are the types of memories that artists should leave to their fans. Not attitude issues. Each time I see Pat on video, I remember that time when I met the Late, Great Pat Torpey. I still get teary eyed each time I see tributes to him and when reminded that he is gone. His music will live forever in my heart and to the millions who's lives he has touched. But on hind sight, I still wish he was still around. Even if he did not play anymore, I'd be happy to know he is still alive and well. Thank you for all the music and for being a giant of a human being PAT TORPEY!
Mr. Big was one of the best bands that came from the late 80's and early 90's. I loved their style and sound. They were and are one of the best supergroups I've ever heard. Pat was hands down the best and most underrated drummer during this era of music. He will be sincerely missed in the music world. His playing style is unmatched. I literally cried when I read that he passed. God bless his family and I hope that Mr. Big keeps on rocking.
I warmed up for Mr Big in Hammerjacks in Baltimore .... watching Pat play from the side of the stage was a lesson I'll never forget... power, finesse and double bass funk !! He'll be missed .
Damn ritchie and paul on the same stage, if only we could mr big with 2 guitarist ritchie and paul and of course pat on drums Rest in peace pat torpey, you're an amazing human being
Damn that sucks. I didn't realize that he was gone. One of my all time favorite drummers and so inspiring in the way that faced his challenges with a big smile and determination to keep living life as well as he could. He played and recorded some phenomenal drum performances. RIP.
Omg...............I'm the exact same way !! I sure didn't know Pat passed in February !! Was shocked and saddened when i came across a tribute video for him.
...just listened to WISH I COULD SAY I LOVE YOU from 1979, Carmel days. No Torpey Tama drums but there's a Pat Torpey tamed vocal and I think it was his first(?). Googled his name and DAMN IT!! Life/death? I'll miss those days hanging with Pat, his toothbrush and that bright beautiful smile/lit up happy face. One of the few drummers I NEVER got to experience the ORGAN/DRUM duo jam with...DARN! (any repeats or do overs?)
I'm on a quest to get Mr. Big inducted! Write to: Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame / 1100 Rock & Roll Blvd / Cleveland, OH 44114, USA. We the F-A-N-S owe it to them & to the memory of Pat Torpey to make this happen. They are long-deserving of this 31+yrs of appreciation & recognition. Get your friends to write in also, the more nominations that are sent in, then they WILL get inducted, finally, where they belong!! Thank You!!

Best sounding live guitar solo Paul ever played. Primarily because he's not using a cheap Ibanez with a razor thin sound.
