This is like a whole movie and I love it romance, dragons, fire, technology, choreography scenes, Crystal balls and magic, a doctor, and a saxophonist who can make lightning.
This has to be one of the most interesting and exciting musical discoveries I've made in quite some time. Everything from the composition, production, and aesthetics, it's all so damn good. Wishing all the success in the world to these two and their team.
I think most of their budget went to the costumes and accessories. Amazing how much they can pull off with a green screen. I love this video as much as Airplane. Wait, this one's even better.
I just found the song in my reccommended - and I was like - I know this from somewhere, but dont know from where. Thankfully you have mentioned eFootball, which I played months ago, otherwise the question "where do I know this from?" would be stuck in my head.
I discovered Magdalena Bay and this mesmerizing song on the first day of 2024. It is not an exaggeration to say this song is a masterpiece. The video is candy for the eyes, as it nods to the ever so simple era of MySpace, dial up, and AOL. ❤❤❤
SAY IT AGAIN. Whenever I pull great modern artists out after someone says that, it's nothing but shock and awe. Folks just act lazy in the name of nostalgia sometimes.
i'm 40 and am so happy, seriously, that the Windows 3.1 through 98 PC aesthetic is finally being filtered through a fully detached generation. like a few of my brain muscles have been waiting for this for 25 years and have finally relaxed for the first time ever. even better, I've heard a few MB songs and liked em OK but this one is the 1st i totally fuckin love. fully on board. well fuckin done.
Very nice tribute to the early days of the Internet. I really dig the references to the pop-up windows, the Windows 95 interface, and my favorite--the home screen of Myspace featuring your Top 8 friends. Brings back a lot of (virtual) memories.
Love the fact you put in that synth whistle you commonly hear in 90s west coast rap songs. Absolutely amazing song with a mix of multiple different genres from different eras in one. Amazing.
Magdalena Bay seems to have reached their final form. Their older style of music, 'fuller' live-action videos, and late-millennial and early Zoomer green screen aesthetic are all coming together into a more modern age. There's so much more meaning to everything now too! This is a wonderful example of true artists progressing after years of development.
There is this bewitching quality to her voice when she makes a soft lilt like in 2:44, almost similar to Grimes. However, their style of music are quite disparate; I particularly enjoy the nostalgic synths, impelling beats and disarmingly fresh, exciting energy of Magdalena Bay's songs. Their releases do not feel repetitive one bit and are rich in sonic layers and instrumental details, which is something I like about Grime's earlier music too. Additionally, Mica and Matthew both look really compatible and comfortable with each other!
I saw them live and the crowd loooooved and was singing along to this. I'm so glad they're out touring and getting exposure, and finally getting to see them. Such a bop.
It's started off as an ad on a Vice documentary, and while I usually hover over the "skip ad" button, I couldn't quite bring myself to click it. Catchy tune, and trippy retro video.
I cannot wait for this. Y'all's music is so underrated, I've been here from the very start and im so proud seeing how much your music keeps improving .
That vocal break at .38 is well placed. It's very subtle and nothing spectacular from a harmony/melody aspect, but it transcends this song into another dimension. Well done.
WoW, I have watched this so many times. So cool all the elements brought together that speak to the lifetime of people from my generation, Generation X. I do consider this a masterpiece. Mica's lyrical skill and vocal intonations play with the words in ways that tickle the Brian and auditory canals. Keep up the great work you two!!!
I just heard the song, I really liked it, feeling like 80's Japanese Funk songs in the vein of "Dress Down" by Kaoru Akimoto, "Sunday Brunch" by Kanako Wada, and "Bye Bye Boogie Dance" by Anri; Also a bit of the 90's vibe like the Spice Girls with "Denying", "Something Kinda Funny" and "Never Give Up on the Good Times" and some Kpop; Congratulations, I have loved both songs and I already want to hear the full album
I can honestly say... this one grew on me and caught me by surprise! Found myself humming the song in the shower and while cooking and realized I was hooked.
