I love this special. I saw it first when my family had a little Jack Russell Terrier who looked a lot like Olive. It was also the year that I found out the truth about Santa. I was pretty bummed out that year, so this special was a nice little pick me up that helped get me through it. For Santa trying to find another reindeer, it's established that at least one of the reindeer in the bar, who's related to Blitzen, is flightless. It seems like being able to fly is a rare ability in their world. Santa's "other reindeer" are the other 7 reindeer on his team. So yeah, they were stuck with only confidence. I think Olive was able to fly here because there's no way she could move her body forward like that without some kind of upward thrust. This is different from the book where she pretty much dangles from a ribbon the whole time. But yeah. The message is about confidence and believing in the Christmas spirit, even when the rest of the world gave up.
I like this special and it would've been awesome if Olive the Other Reindeer got her own TV Series adaptation of her she's so cute and adorable. I like dogs.
