I have heard use mineral/baby oil specifically because of this [food grade oil going rancid], then I have also heard to use vegetable/olive oil because mineral oil will cause cracking. Any idea which one is true? Or are both true? After cleaning with baby oil, I wipe it dry, then rub with leather conditioning balm, allow that to soak in overnight, wipe dry again, then apply new compound. This sounds most reasonable to me, but I could be wrong.
The only problem with that could be contamination of the leather from the abrasive paper. Just a few specks of grit could effect your stropping results.
try wd40 spray on the strop and after having your strop in vertical position start from the top and finishing right to the bottom use metal scrape to push all the wd40 do that couple time depend i bad your strop is and i much hold compound is in the leather , but at the end you will have brand new leather all the best
I have always used a brush made to raise the knap of suede shoes. I go outside and brush the strop. Works great, it's fast, and no mess inside.
You can pour the Alcohol over it & use a scrapper to scrape off the compound also this works great also.
Mineral oil works best in my opinion. Years ago I had to throw my strop out after using vegetable oil, because it STANK.

Scrapping it works ten times better
That's what I always do. Just finished scraping mine before I seen this,lol.
what oil are you using?
DRIFTMOTIVE By the colour I think olive oil
Reg or Extra Virgin,? does it matter.? Just kidding even veggie oil will work also.
He said in the video it was vegetable oil.
