Philippine-USA coins should be part of any US coin collection.

Absolutely love these coins! I started collecting these a few years ago. Love the reverse. Half-centavos are so hard to find in good condition. Thank you for posting these!

I was stationed at Clark AFB for three years. I found many Philippine U.S. coins in circulation and collected them. There was some currency, even gold certificates (payable in gold) those are very rare! There's supposed to be millions of silver U.S. pesos at the bottom of Manila Bay, where they were dumped to keep them from being seized by the Japanese when they invaded the Philippines. I love these coins! You have some absolutely beautiful coins there!

Yes they dumped a bunch and that is why the ones minted before the war are rare and expensive.

Yeah, I own a 1 peso piece that clearly spent some time underwater. I figure it must be one of those coins

A while back I bought a number of nice Filipino US issued coins. A dealer I know was selling them for spot, the nickel and copper coins were a dollar a piece. I love the designs. Some are so-so but several are quite nice, I was quite lucky. The only thing I didn't get in that group was a MacArthur commemorative. The way those look reminds me of the Peace dollars. The letters are so soft. Thanks, Ben!

Hey Ben, Your videos are great in showing us coins like these that I would never see or possibly think about. Your commentary gives us more that just looking at a coin.
Question, I mentioned the line "THE CAT'S MEOW" a while back - I reserve that line for WOW coins which you show many.
My father told me about Cat's Meow yesterday when I was young.
You also provided a KEY piece of information that I did not know - OK there is a lot I don't know. But when you discussed the POP 5 none finer on one of the coins - you clarified what thar exactly means - that the POP is for that particular grade only!! I have seen some coins where the seller has stated a POP but did not qualify it is grade specific. Great information for collectors. You give your audience the various ways to collect without breaking the bank.
    Thank you and Best Wishes

These are fun and I have a few. My best is a 1903 Proof peso in Pcgs Pr64 with great color. Lots of deep reds and few hair lines. An expensive eBay win @ around $1900
My favorite world coin I own along with the one mint state Thaler I recently shared.
As always great insights and information Ben thanks 🙏

Have you heard about how the Philippinos threw many silver 1 pesos into Manilla bay rather than letting the Japanese get them during their occupation during WW2!

I have an almost complete type set that’s missing a 1/2 & 1 centavos and the 1936 commemorations (mostly because I really don’t like FDR). They all seem to be MS 66 or MS 67. How much about would it cost to have them PCGS graded?
Also, my family in the Philippines has a jar filled with these that my mom left behind. It’s probably worth thousands lol. I even had a very nice 1945 10 Centavos made into a 14” pendant for my daughter that perfectly represents her mixed heritage.

i am surprised you did not pick up the commemorative peso's or 50 centavos of the 1930's. the ones with Quezon/murphy and Quezon/Roosevelt. these are premier coins in mint state especially Quezon/murphy. these coins I believe commemorate the Philippines becoming a commonwealth.

I think these coins if I’m not mistaken were restored and cleaned that’s why they are shiny… but not uncirculated coins…

I found two silver wartime centavos in a junk coin bowl at old pueblo coin , just down from daddy jacks on speedway back in the 80's and a 1852 large copper cent red brown, for a quarter a piece.Still have them.

When you consider what the majority of these coins (and their owners) endured at the hands of the Japanese, it’s amazing we even have the populations of coins we do have today.
