      Well, you'd be surprised. I work at a nonprofit thrift store and we get stuff with new tags on it all the time and really expensive stuff that people would rather give to us instead of trying to resell it.
      We even have a tags on rack because we have so much. Today, obviously with an employee discount, I got a brand new Calvin Klein dress with the tags on for $20 and it was originally $134.
      Sold a all crystal vase for $35 yesterday.
      And a 14K gold necklace for $40, yesterday as well.
      Obviously rejects exist, but it's not what people typically think that word means for thrift stores. It's just what people didn't want anymore.

    I know it's a joke but the problem for me is that I grew up in the late 2000s/ early 2010s and it's ingrained in my DNA to despise clothing from that time. The colorblocking clothing with huge letters on it and the fringes and the emo stripes it's all a mess and I'm gagging when I find it in thrift stores. What I do like is 90s/early 2000s stuff. Exactly. I remember I started thrifting as a hobby early 2012-13s. You could find SO many good things, amazing beautiful expensive pieces that could even sometimes have the tag still on or were vintage rare finds etc. now it’s become an overplayed trend like everything else these days that I’m lucky if I find one good thing. Also makes me sad how greedy people are with the clothing in thrift stores, even when I heavily thrifted I never grabbed every single good deal or good item I found, it’s just not fair, majority of people shopping in thrift stores arent doing it for the “aesthetic” or the “amazing bargains” or whatever. They’re doing it because they literally have no choice, and its the only option they have to keep their babies warm or even just keep themselves warm. But since this trend took off everything is taken and I know beggers can’t be choosers but those kids who have no choice but to shop thrift deserve to have some nice clothes too but all the “quirky” tiktokers who can well afford normal clothing buy it before they get a chance. Which is why, I no longer even really go to thrift stores anymore. It was fun while it lasted but.

      @@aestheticallysad_3016 and another thing about people hogging thrift store items, they will go into the store, find beautiful, expensive, high quality items, buy and then sell them for 7 times the price. This really pisses me off because Living with my single mother as a kid, we were very poor, and going to the thrift store to buy things, people donated those items so that people with no money can have clothes, it’s really nice to be able to have ONE good item as a teenager while everyone else has so many nice clothes, and then there’s people buying everything good and reselling it. It’s so wrong, and the only people who’ve disagreed with me on this are people who do it or have never been in the situation where you needed to thrift.

    • @lemons_66
      @lemons_66 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Well, I mean, yeah? Lol
      It also depends because if you're at a for-profit one, that's going to be more than necessary because as of currently, there's been a shortage on donations across the country.
      Places like Good Will and such are getting their pieces from actual companies instead of the companies throwing them away. People are just reselling their stuff like crazy on Facebook Marketplace, Ebay or Poshmark.
      You'd have better luck at nonprofit thrift stores that either don't care about their prices of luxury goods or just a normal one that understands they are a thrift store so while that Coach purse isn't going for $5 when it was originally $150, it's still cheaper than your for-profit thrift store.
      Economy is shit dude, places still need to try as much as they can, but just know where your money is actually going.
      Source: I work at a nonprofit thrift store lol we price a lot of high end items and we don't bargain as we employees are not permitted (only our boss can). We also aren't dumb and have a list in the back we add to daily for good and up brands lol
      And of course that shit stays behind the counter. We have enough people stealing because people are people. If you think that Patricia Nash purse that we have for $75 is going on the FLOOR instead of behind the counter, y'all need some help lol

    • @Gab-ok1mr
      @Gab-ok1mr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Samantha B I believe you can get those items for a lot cheaper at thrifting outlets. Since people don’t buy the nice items because they’re more expensive, the outlets take what doesn’t get sold and sell them at way cheaper prices. I think it’s sold by pound at some places.

    Yesterday the thrift gods saw me suffering and send down the most beautyful piece from heaven. I'm plussize so finding cute clothes that also fit nicely in a thrift store is basically impossible. I always have to sew them until they fit.
    BUT YESTERDAY.... MY GOD.
    I found these muted grass green vintage curdoroy pants...... And they fit perfectly!!! I don't really like wearing pants but this pair.... Ohhh gosh it's perfect.
    I also foooound*drumroll*... Super cute brand-new hiking boots from the 70's... They are beautyful brown and black leather suuuper clumpy kdjcirjdos and suuuper comfortable!!
    And a red wool sweater for fall and winter!
    I got the shoes for 6€ the pants for 5€ and the sweater for 2,50€!!

    • @tri-angel
      @tri-angel ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Sometimes they overpriced their things though. Went to a Sal Val in a somewhat affluent suburb and found tons of great stuff, but another one in a somewhat affluent city outside of Detroit and they charge like $30 for a pair of jeans! I guess if I look back it's not that bad, but it's still a thrift store, and these clothes should be more accessible to people with lower income

    My mother is really into thrifting when it comes to vintage Niknaks, art and home decor and she feels like she is finding good value. I used to look through their clothes and would occasionally find really nice wears at reasonable prices but I noticed that thrift stores are getting really greedy recently and have inflated their prices to the point I am able to find better deals in the clearance rack of stores who are trying to make a profit and have new inventory that was cared for. Thrift stores are very sloppy in how they treat their inventory as I used to buy comic books and they were thrown all over the place resulting to poor condition and therefore less value. I visited second hand shop the other day, they are not like goodwill that rely on donations but buy used clothes from people and sell them in their stores. I was able to find a nice t-shirt gently used and all their prices were kind of fixed which is similar to what I would pay for something at Marshall’s and TJ Maxx brand new. It’s very hard to find more than a couple of pieces, most of their inventory does not even measure up to some of my old clothes that I hoarded in my closet from literally 10 years ago!

    Sometimes you can find really good stuff at thrift stores. One time I went to the Goodwill in my town and found a pair of uggs that were in amazing condition priced at $12.99 USD and when I tell you I threw those puppies in my basket because it’s rare you find good stuff for cheap like that. And thrifting is easier now with people selling stuff on websites and apps now. Poshmark is a good one I use to check out what people are selling.
