Stop buying them, and then we will see what they will do. This is not the only brand.
This was very disappointing. I always wanted a lady dior and now I don’t.
It is so disappointing.
Buy what u want. All brands do the same as Dior. Believe me and we know and we ll continue buying. People r complained about LV quality and still buying so I don't see that talking about these issues will affect their sale
Dior was never my style, but I did want a YSL bag. Now I don't.
I purchased a pre loved Lady Dior it is still one of my favorites. It is sad that these companies don’t pay their employees a fair salary as they charge so much for their products
This is misleading. The Dior book tote is a cloth bag so of course it costs nothing to make. This is not every bag. Also the $57 dollars is for labor not materials, not advertisement, and not design.
Recently it came out that Loro Piano doesn't pay the old ladies who make the sweaters in Peru. Its disgusting.
No way! I hadn't heard
@@DD-ln5no Yes, they told the ladies it was for charity. this was a few months ago just google it
How horrible!!!
Very disappointing. I came across a comment a few years ago that skilled Chinese artisans, often trained by the fashion houses themselves, are choosing to work in replica factories because the working conditions and wages are so much better making fakes than when they were making authentic bags. Not sure how true it is but it can certainly explain why fakes are so good now. Either way this is certainly not luxury and a huge mark on Dior's brand image.
It is so disappointing. I wonder if there is any truth to that? This is not luxury for sure. Shame on Dior.
I believe it
It makes sense that the same people making the real ones and are having access to the materials are making the fake ones on the side! That’s why they look and feel identical. This all seemed to happen during the pandemic shut downs in northern Italy. 🇮🇹
This is why starting today I will only buy replicas
I’m glad they exposed the real cost of these so-called luxury goods
I completely understand why people are upset. However, how many people are upset about how rare earth minerals are mined in Africa? There are toddlers digging up cobalt so that we may have smart phones. Yet we are willing to pay from 800-2000 for smart phones.
Great point!
So disappointing. I can accept the fact that there is a ridiculous mark up I am paying but I absolutely draw the line at the condition in which another human being is being treated. It’s disgusting and it saddens my heart. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
It really is disgusting and saddening. I accept the price too but not the human suffering.
People still buying Balenciaga. People forget. And dolce and gabbana. And all luxury items
Sad, but true. 1 year from now and people will purchase Dior again like this never happened.
Every time I walk by Balenciaga store it’s empty
The CEO needs to make their 500 million dollar bonus, they want a new yacht.......Very disappointing, do better!
I know right?!? When is the money enough???
This infuriates me so much, I actually shed a few tears. Why is this happening in 2024?
Greedy but we as a consumer have a choice.
It's been happening for years.
It is really sick and disgusting. So sad.
It’s pretty horrifying that behind the shiny surface is an allegedly horrible industry that we have been funding.
It really is. I wonder how many other fashion houses have similar issues?
@@LuxPurselove I think anything under the LVMH umbrella is definitely questionable now. I think this is going to get worse as time passes and we learn more.
Chinese factory operating outside of Milan w horrible unsafe conditions. Sounds much for the rationale for buying Real v Fake. Pure greed. The illusion has been shattered. I boycotted Balenciaga after their marketing scandal. Now I’m done w all luxury designer bags. It’s sickening to think about.
Thank you for saying this Dayle
And probably not just our bags! What about our sneakers which I’m addicted to.. and how about all our beautiful pieces of jewelry. I wonder how my Rolexes are made now? SMH
Applicable to every luxury brand. Buy vintage. Or find new designers there are plenty
I'm so glad my Dior bags are all vintage early 1980's but I dont plan to buy luxury Dior bags at the moment.
Melinda, I feel the same way. In Sophie Shohet’s video, she said Dior paid one manufacturer $1M + in one year and Dior made over $80M….and to treat another human being like this, disgusting. I’ll use what I’ve got but will no longer support the brand and like you’ve said, this just the beginning and many more brands will be exposed. Thanks for sharing your thoughts 😊
I missed her saying that. Just terrible! It is all so disgusting.
My heart is beating so fast hearing you speak. HUGE SIGH😢! I'm happy to hear you will not be getting rid of your bags. I wouldn't either, nor would I recommend anyone to, unless it was in the plan before these findings or if you're willing to sell Darn Near EVERYTHING you own, down to your undies. I'm so happy it's coming out. I've always said, Nothing is worth no more than what a person is willing to pay for it. This is why, at these crazy prices, I try & only buy what I Absolutely love/want & can afford. I believe you will enjoy carrying your Dior pieces again. The World is hearing what they didn't know, now. But, I believe there are happier days ahead. Even for the people who were mistreated... it's my prayer a Sweet Taste of FREEDOM for them has begun.💔
I really hope so, they deserve it. I think I will enjoy my bags again right now it just feels so tainted. It has really changed my perspective. Xoxo
@@LuxPurselove Don't allow anyone to control you concerning what others have done, your purchases or your views. Great Video.🥰
@@mindbodysoul8214 I always appreciate you. The comments are taking a strange turn and I didn't expect that. Thank you! Xoxo
The fact is that most if not all the factories in Italy have been sold to the chinese. I have even watched a video of som very rich chinese women , one owned a factory in china and she
admitted that designer clothes were made in her factrory. The thing is that the luxury houses can say made in france or italy when the piece is not . They can make it in china
then ship it back and add the lable and say made in china. This is not a secret but some just ignore the facts.
If they will over charge the buyer for their bags , why would they care about the people making them.
.Loro piano was also called out for not paying the people who do the labor for her cashmere.
That's correct. The last substantial transformation just needs to be done in the country of origin you want the label printed to say so really, most of the time it's silly of us to request specifically, like in LV items, we want "made in France" pieces. :) Dior isn't even the first to have labour issues. Fendi and LV was on the radar before for having workers make garments from their home for basically pennies and without contracts. This was just in 2018. This is not the first nor the last and has been happening for decades, not just luxury but, all over the world. Although, It's been a problem within Italy for years. We hold luxury brands higher for the price that we pay but, who are we kidding. Everyone is out for the higher profit margins and for the higher positions to pocket the most. Humans ultimately are just very greedy and selfish. I think we all need a grasp on reality however, I do hope from this situation blowing up that we scrutinize this a bit more and pressure these companies to do better. I believe this will be a good lesson for all. 😅
I have no problem if the factory is owned by Chinese or if the workers are Chinese but it is the cruelty of how they were treated. I wasn't aware of Loro P (never heard of it till quiet luxury) or the Fendi or LV issues. It does come down to greed and self selfishness for sure. Hopefully we can all be more aware now.
Prior to this news coming out, I had suspected it might be the case. I have been a bit turned off by luxury over the last couple of years due to the price increases and other things I've learned, but this is the nail in the coffin for me. It's sad when a company places profits over people. Disgusting. I think EVERY luxury content creator needs to speak out against this to get the word out and let these companies know this is not acceptable. Thank you for doing this video.
It’s no big secret that Bernard Arnault takes over a company and immediately makes cost cutting measures. We’ve seen it with the quality of LV and Tiffany. The service at Tiffany used to be top notch and now it’s brutal. Things falling apart after a few wears, it’s so disheartening.
I was really saddened when he took over Tiffany, I knew the bad changes were coming. It is disheartening.
I heard the bag, that they were making was the Book Tote, not the Lady Dior.
Thanks, I couldn’t find it. It still taints the brand for me even if it wasn’t the Lady.
@@LuxPurselove I agree 100%, I will not be purchasing Dior again at least until this situation has been rectified.
It is very disappointing to see such poor working conditions especially when we spend so much and the profit margins are so high. The workers and consumers deserve better.
As you said. The greed. Just mindblowing😮
I feel so silly walking around with
my beautiful Dior book .
It's not a good feeling. :(
This is what happens when a big corporation buys out these brands , They are not interested in craftsmanship , they are interested in profit . It is such a shame how greed has brought down a beloved brand . It is nice to see more people on TH-cam starting to cover this , it needs to be talked about .
Yes I totally agree.
So disappointed in Dior. I always looked up to them as having high standards and I also assumed they would be paying the artisans well. 24 hours in a sweatshop is unacceptable.
It really is unacceptable.
It is truly disgusting. How many more millions do they actually need? Can those people sleep at night? I hope people don't forget this like they forgot about the Balenciaga scandal. I am so disgusted.
What a crazy story. 24 hours a day, why. Are they selling that many bags to justify 24/7 labour. Clearly someone in corporate procurement LVMH did not vet these factories or chose to ignore the conditions. Markup on product is normal business, but this type of markup on bags that are not really luxury after all is high way robbery.
That's the sad part, they are selling that many bags. Cassie Thorpe recently did a video where she toured the Fashionphile warehouse in NYC and I was absolutely floored at the sheer size of the inventory. I think we have multiple problems right now with this mindset, including our over consumption. Luxury is no longer pretty, it's just downright gross.
They must be selling that much to operate that way.
FP also has a huge warehouse in CA too.
I always thought they were artisans, with good working conditions…….but Dior cannot be the only house doing this. Truly it is disappointing and yet somehow I am not surprised. My bags have always been just fun for me and I will continue to wear and enjoy them but this is just sad!
I thought the same! They cannot be the only fashion house doing this. I will get back to enjoying my Ladies in time.
Makes you wonder if all of the luxury houses are a big fraud. Peddling cheaply made items for big money$$$
And B Arnaud just added parts of a swiss luxury group. He had triples his worth since covid...LVMH is growing and growing with this kind of behaviours. That is disgusting
I agree wholeheartedly. To show beautiful and clean workshops as if the bags are made there and then to find out the their bags were actually made in sweatshops is such a slap in the face. Gross misrepresentation, allegedly!
I totally agree!
So glad I have resisted Dior so far and now I won’t even go in the store
It’s such a disappointment. I hope this serves as a wake up call to the industry.
Thank you, this revelation is the first time I am hearing about it.
13k for 2 bags worth a $106 that’s wild
So I just went and watched Sophie’s video………..I understand it is huge news in Italy and I feel awful for their client services people who are just so wonderful. I say, take a breath and a pause and see how this plays out. 🤷♀
It's always terrible hearing about this and so disappointing and frustrating that it continues to keep happening!
It really is. I think we will see it happen again sadly.
@@LuxPurselove true!
Hello Catwalk City did a fantastic video on this too, it was the first I had heard of this. Such a horrific situation, sadly, I agree, I too think this is not the last luxury house we will hear of doing this. It makes me feel so dirty. Thank you Melinda for covering this. 💗
Yes dirty that is how I feel too. Not only with Dior but all of it right now. It is so icky and gross.
Most people who are buying and wearing luxury brands could care less about the working conditions-they just want to strut their labels. LVMH does not have anything to worry about-even after all this exposure, luxury prices will still increase ridiculously and people will stay pay. I agree 100% that’s it’s all about greed but LVMH will say it’s just business.
You are probably right. I doubt this will have any impact on their profit margins. And I think LV just went up again a few days ago too.
Yes, I noticed LV bag prices went up a couple of days ago here in Australia and also Japan, not sure if its worldwide. This scandal makes me wonder if LV does the same as Dior since they are both part of LVMH.
A LVMH Italian subsidiary owned the factory that organised the sub-contract, therefore, LVMH should have checked conditions of who it was contracted out to. All fall under the same umbrella. The reality being they don’t care. LVMH just swallow up Companies, put logos on everything, often replace quality materials for cheaper versions and pretty much ruin everything they get their sticky little fingers on. No point selling what you have, enjoy them… someone may have worked an eighteen hour shift to make them. 🤷🏻♀️
They should have checked conditions but I agree they don't care. I am not selling anything. They were bought prior to knowledge of this. I hope no one worked that long making them. :(
Wow!!😮 How very sad and horrible!!😢
It’s truly just terrible what people do for money, and the mark ups are utterly ridiculous!
I don’t own any Dior handbags, but I do buy a lot Dior beauty products.
I wonder what the work environment are in regard to that. I may have to stop buying Dior all together.
That is a good question. I know some of their makeup is made in Germany from Marlena Stell's channel and she has said those factories are good.
It’s heartening to see how these businesses are ripping people off their hard earned money. Feels like people are fooled so easily by these rich businesses houses. I’m sure it exists almost everywhere , how disgusting!!
I think there have always been issues in the fashion industry that come out periodically about these types of issues. So many companies are outsourcing labor to save money. One would think this wouldn't still be happening in 2024.
Yes I agree. And I would have really thought a company like Dior would be ethical.
@@LuxPurselove I agree.
I agree with you Melinda,l would Never knowingly spend that much money to have people treated like this,it is truly disgusting 🙏🌷
It really is disgusting.
🌷
yep. I'll never spend all that money on a bag --we've been taken--shame on them for abusing their contractors too
I recently purchased a leather Dior tote and also feel disheartened about this recent news.
Why is everyone acting surprised and shocked? People really didn't know this before?
No longer a customer, these reports are soooo disturbing🤮🤮🤮🤮
Please don't get rid of the bags, the damage has been done. It would be disrespectful to the poor workers to throw their work away. Just be aware going forward. What price beauty... age old question. Sad cuz I love Dior designs.
I will be keeping them, I can't imagine telling my husband I am selling a bag he worked so hard to surprise me with. I am thankful both were bought prior to our knowledge of this horrible news.
As someone who’s culture background is Chinese, I’m truly sad that made in China = exploitation and less than ideal craftsmanship. Clearly the workers work hard and there’s a market for what they produce (probably not at current price). I just hope through labor renegotiation, their working conditions can get better. Also I hope one day they can work for Chinese designers too, so the brand image will align better with the workers in the back stage
I don't associate made in China with less than ideal craftsmanship. I have no problem with who is making the bag but I do want them to be treated humanely and given a fair wage for their hard work.
@@LuxPurseloveyes! That comes through your video. All we want is a world with less corporate greed and much less human suffering!
My husband worked in the auto industry years ago and visited a Chinese auto plant, and they do the same thing there. He was disgusted when he saw the working conditions.
Good video. The fashion industry is a lot about illusion.
Thanks for sharing. I do hope you enjoy your two bags, since they are beautiful and bought in good faith. Hopefully, they weren't part of that production crew that you spoke of. Now I'm off to view the video you mentioned from the other TH-camr....
That is true, I do think I will enjoy them again. Thank you.
I value you at least are talking about it, many TH-camrs and influencers are not saying anything, they make lots of money with their sponsorship.
To my knowledge Dior doesn't pay influencers but I could be wrong. If they do it is very big ones.
Deeply deeply disturbing….its bad enough that most high street brands are sending all labour out of the country….but this!? Gross!🤮
It is very gross.
I love luxury but these companies and prices are making me. Look for something else when I need something. I heard even chanel as for LVMH I try not to purchase from all the brands he owns. Happy what I have thank you for another you tuber letting know.
I won’t be shopping with Dior for awhile, this is disappointing
Your husband is a very blessed man to have such a classy lady with morals and standards. We need more woman like this
Thank you so much.
I was not aware of this.. Thank you for sharing.. Sad and infuriating..
Thank you for saying ( I don’t spend money to have workers mistreated ) 😢😢 your a great person 😊😊
Just the how the batteries in our phones are sourced. Terrible conditions. We literally can't enjoy anything we own if we look into it too deep!
I lived in Italy for 3 yrs. This makes me so sad. There are many immigrants who are oppressed there. I guess as anywhere. The poverty where we lived (naples).. i can see why they would work in such conditions. I could go on, but i have many fond memories of italy and dont want to lose them.❤
That is really sad to hear.
There was an undercover video of the workers that have had their limbs literally cut off because of the lack of safety precautions being removed. They were forced to work for basically free after being promised a job and they had to sleep in the parking lot as well as their visas were taken away by the owners of the factory. Don’t know if those videos are still available on TH-cam but I saw 3 of them . 💯 in one of those videos they admitted that the designer’s inspector tells the factory owners when they are coming ahead of time! And that’s only once per year 😮.
It is absolutely horrific! I thought for many years this was happening! I don’t own a designer bag and will never purchase one!!
That is probably a very wise thing.
I’m so sorry your sentimental bags are tainted with these allegations and you feel like you can’t use them. But I’m glad that you’re not selling and I hope that the situation can be rectified somehow. When the Balenciaga scandal broke and the value of their brand just plummeted along with sales and the resale market for their items, it made me wonder how the luxury community will respond if it happened to Chanel, Hermes, or Dior. It makes me mad that we’re buying these items at premium prices for their quality, heritage, style, and ethical production standards but I feel as if I’ve been had. Perhaps I’m also naive but I choose to believe in the good of this world and it hurts when I’m proven wrong.
Thank you. I need to just use them and know they were purchased prior to any knowledge of this. I totally feel the same as your last sentence.
Actually, it’s a little more complicated- Bernard Arnault bought Dior in 1984, even before founding LVMH. In 2017 his own holding company Groupe Arnault sold it to LVMH, so essentially same owner.
Thanks. Yes someone else told me that too. Online info I found was very misleading.
I'm glad you did this video. This is disappointing for all of us. I know how special your pink Dior bag is to you. It's heartbreaking. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
It is really disappointing. Thanks Toni.
That sounds horrible. Thanks for sharing your POV.
The crazy thing for me is that Dior has this ad where 'everything' was 'skillfully' made by 'artisans' and people fall for it😱. Who knows how long this has been going.
I can relate that my view has also been tainted and struggling to purchase from those top “luxury” brands. I’d rather be supporting smaller artisans
Chanel was also under fire last year for similar practices . The entire luxury industry practices this .
I'm furious and will not be purchasing anything from Dior.
LVMH should be ashamed?🤔What other skeleton's do they have?🤔
I wonder!
Same Melinda same, it’s just down right gross. 😔😡
That’s how much the bags cost to make. Quality down, prices up. The quality looks fake anyway.
Not sure what you mean by the quality looks fake?
This news came out as I was getting ready to purchase a Dior bag for the first time. Absolutely a sign from God. I draw the line at human exploitation
Glad you found out before you bought.
So disappointing Melinda that the rich get richer treating people in such a degrading way and sad and upsetting for the customers who bought their bags in good faith Thanks for your video and opinion., so agree I think more to come the luxury has changed.
Well said Margaret! It is so sad and so upsetting. I have a feeling more is to come as well. Xoxo
Not completely surprised.
Gross is right.
If a person researched in depth all the brands of the items they wore daily I would imagine you’d be appalled at complaints of how they pay/treat workers, it’s all about greed. You’ll still use your bags though, right? I’m just saying people who own these “tainted” brands shouldn’t be judged by the brands behavior especially because we never know all their practices.
Very true.
“The owners of the contracting and subcontracting companies are under investigation by Milan prosecutors for exploiting workers and employing people off the books, while Dior itself faces no criminal probe. “ Whilst it is not Dior facing legal consequences I will be interested to hear what processes they intend to put in place to monitor their sub-contractor’s working conditions. I hope some good will come out of this. Somebody else made a comment about if they don’t like it, work somewhere else. Whilst I don’t agree with this, it does raise an important point. Why would you work there? There is no mention of workers being underpaid. Let’s hope they at least may have been earning fairly decent money and that was the incentive.
That person made several rude statements about the workers until I had to block her. It isn't always that easy to change jobs especially when stuck in a situation like this one and some of the workers were there illegally which makes it even harder. I too hope some good comes out of this.
So disappointing, my next bag was going to be the lady dior, i will not be purchasing it now! I couldn’t wear it and feel good about it!😢
I agree.
And……the factory that they are showing didn’t show any sewing machines, it almost seemed like they were making grommets and or hard wear. Possibly a subcontractor, still doesn’t make it ok!!
The factory was a Chinese factory that was subcontracted out, apparently the bag made for 53 euros is the small fabric book tote so there must be sewing machines somewhere.
@@LuxPurselove I think this may shake up these companies, and hopefully they will do better……..that said, I do so hope that when you go to Paris, that if you have never been to their Flagship store that you do go and walk through. It is a beautiful place and the museum next door is worth a walk through.
It is sad because I think Dior has the most beautiful items and we had the most amazing four hours there. ( Champagne)😊
Happy 4th Melinda! Blessings!🥰
@@LIN-wt8dk I hope so. You had a good point on Dayle's post about Rolex etc. It makes you wonder doesn't it? I did not go in there last time I went in the store in London. It would be nice to see it, thanks for the reminder. Happy 4th to you and blessings back! Xoxo
@@LuxPurselove 🥰
No you are wrong about that CD was not acquired in 2017. It was initially acquired as a construction company under whose umbrella sat the Christian Dior company. This was Bernard Arnault first foray into luxury brand. Originally the main family business was in construction. I am not sure which decade this new company was acquired but it was decades ago. Later he started buying Lious Vuitton and then other brands such as Bulgari Moët Chandon. His latest acquisition is Tiffany. Since then Tiffany prices have shot up!! I remember reading all about it and how Bernard Arnault LVMH owner got into luxury brands purely by chance.
Interesting! Everything I looked up said acquired in 2017 for 13.1 billion. I remember thinking Tiffany is going to change big time when he acquired them and they did! A bracelet I bought 2 years ago has gone up 5k!
@@LuxPurselove I just looked up his wiki page “acquisition of the financially-struggling textile and retail conglomerate Boussac Saint-Frères in 1984, which included the prestigious fashion house Christian Dior.”
This is so upsetting but yes Melinda… I fear this is only the beginning. 😔
I really think so too.
Very disappointing…never going to buy a Dior bag. Disgusting
It really is disappointing and disgusting.
Good for you Melinda to not support Dior moving forward. Obviously it’s the workers we should have compassion for first. The video they show on how these bags are supposed to be made is a dirty lie. I’ve just saved myself some money!!!
Glad it saved you money!
This is irrelevant. LVMH is headed by the wealthiest family in the world, and answers to shareholders, not customers. Prior to these abuses, they were abusing French & Italian workers paid minimum wages for high level craftsman ship. Would you work for 20 euros an hour to work a 40 hour week on bags that sell for $10,000? Even the LV workshop in Paris pays poorly.
All northern Italy is filled with factories of all sorts of brands that have MADE IN ITALY tags on their products. But do not be fooled, they employ cheap Chinese labor not Italian craftsmen. Remember how Covid started in Northern Italy right after Chinese new year of 2020 after all workers returned to Italy from their holidays in China. I was in Italy then and remember that we had 2000 plus deaths daily. No wonder why if they work and live in unsanitary crowded facilities.
This is disgusting and quite frankly I dont understand why people would spend 5000$ for a bag that is worth 150$ max.
I think this is a sign that people want to feel high class or important but this way too much power given to a bag or any luxurious item.
Louis V bag costs thousands of dollars and people are ready to pay that amount for a plastic bag.
This is ridiculous. And I will not buy Dior products anymore.
Thankfully I’ve never bought anything Dior.🥵 It has just never appealed to me.
Abhorrent! At the very least this certainly gives pause with purchasing from luxury brands. Hard to believe it's only Dior.
LV, Gucci are all probably using these workers unless each brand is independently managed under the LMVH umbrella
I couldn’t blame you for being off with Dior , it’s definitely wrong , shameful for a brand associate with princess Diana . A woman loved by everyone no matter what walk of life they came from.
It's disappointing and I feel like more companies will be shown for some bad conduct. It's completely turned me off from Dior.
In one of her more recent videos Sophie said that she heard that this particular factory was making the book tote.
I do think that the Italian government needs to take some responsibility in this instance too. What are they about allowing Chinese factories to operate sweatshops in a first world country, when it’s well known that this is what Chinese companies do? It’s not just luxury that has been tainted by this but anything made in Italy.
Totally in agreement
I will not buy anything from Dior!!! Let's see what brand is next...
Yes - no desire to support Dior anymore. They were one of my fave brands. I'll be avoiding LVMH also.
Lix purse, Fashionphile and TRR sell these bags for same price as new.
I wonder if my Dior bag will go down in value. While I don’t like what Dior did I still love my saddle bag 😢
