  • There are so many photographers in Iceland! Day 2 of our photography tour takes us to Kirjufellsfoss.
See my Iceland Photography on Instagram at @brendanvanson.
Kirkjufellsfoss was our photo destination goal on day 2 of our photography tour here in Iceland. But, along the way we wanted to stop at a couple locations along the Icelandic coast. We first stopped at a really cool seascape with a archway. It made for a couple really cool photos. Then, we pushed forward.
Our next photo location in Iceland was another seascape with a beautiful view out to some sea stacks in a national park. Again, the view was amazing. Unfortunately, I managed to drop my brand new filter holder off the cliff. It was likely instantly watching $140 tumble out of my hands and down into the sea.
We got to Kirkjufellsfoss just before sunset, and I was amazed by how many photographers there were.
I mean, there are so many photographers in Iceland to begin with, but this was next level. I was blown away. There must have been about 100 photographers there. Insane. It didn't help that there was an Italian photo tour there along with my photography workshop, but those are the breaks.
Photography in Iceland is one of the most sought after things, so I get it.
Kirkjufellsfoss is also one of the most iconic views of Iceland, so I'm not surprised.
The northern lights also came out in Iceland tonight. It wasn't the most impressive show I've ever seen. But, it was beautiful.
This is the 3rd of my Iceland vlogs. To see more of my Iceland vlogs, check out the playlist.
Tomorrow, we'll be shooting more photography in Iceland as we head towards the big waterfalls.

Mind blowing the number of people at Kirkjufellsfoss. Was there 3 years ago same time of the year and had the place to myself for hours in the middle of the day. Was a peaceful experience. Must be a totally different experience now! Still a very beautiful spot! Great vid, brings back fond memories. Enjoy Iceland!

Holy smokes! I can't believe how many people are around! I went to Iceland every year in April/May between 2012 and 2016. In the beginning there was no one around once you got beyond the Golden Circle. I shot at Grundarfjordur twice and saw no one around at all! Last year there were so many more people, especially around the crashed DC3, which was insanity when I drove by, people all over the road and parking everywhere. Genuinely dangerous. Overall it's not a bad thing, Iceland is still relatively peaceful and quiet, and crowds encourage you to go off the beaten path, but it's amazing to see how it's changed in just a few years.

Fabulous to see more of Iceland, brought back some great memories 🖒
I visited in 2015 in June & virtually had all the iconic locations to myself during the golden hrs......fast forward to 2016 & the same places were heaving with folk 😓

Brendan buddy, you're making us Canucks look like a bunch of butterfingers. Repeat after me, "I will buy a VU Filter system", I just checked the part number on mine (100mm square filters which is what you're using too, right?) and it's VFH100 for the holder. Get their Sion (sp?) 82mm c-pol which mounts in the holder infront of the 100mm filters. I have never done the easter egg hunt that is common with the lee holders, and the always fall off right after sunset (or apparently mid-day if you're standing on the edge of a cliff)!

I can confirm quite sharp an increase in amount of photographers in certain Norwegian hotspots as well. Of course, every person has the equal right to photograph these places. But it's a mood killer when the aim is to escape from the people into the peaceful nature. I don't really like to go in the same row anymore to take the same view as so many others. Why should I because there actually are just _as beautiful_ locations nearby with absolutely nobody around! Not exactly hard to find either. It's just feels so crazy.

Yeah, what makes me really yearn for places like Kirkjufellsfoss is that other-worldly silence and solitude in which you get to enjoy them. Provided you bring a 16-stop ND filter and do, like, 25-minute exposures. But carefully scan your frame for dudes who, like you, are trying to do crazy-long exposures. ;)

I shot Kirkjufell couple years ago like 2016 november if I remember correct. Then there was maybe two other people but it was raining a lot but I kept shooting anyway and made really cool shots. Afterwards I but my rental car ac to it fullest and hottest and directed everything to my camera, it being so wet that it didn't even work anymore but I'm happy that it worked fine next morning :) Canon 6D.

Same thing happening at iconic New Zealand landscape locations. Need to pick the time of year/day carefully. We usually travel in late Autumn, but have witnessed a huge increase in tourists even at that time of year.

Another great blog Brendan, it looks as busy as when I went in September!
Just a 'heads up' - will you still be there on Saturday? The Orionid meteor shower is peaking in the early hours of Saturday morning and you would be in a great place to see it if it's a clouldless night. Should be up to 30 meteors per hour, peaking about 12-2am Saturday morning.

It's supposed to say 16mm. haha. Only 14mm shot was the northern lights photo. I just use a 100-150mm filter set. Don't use filters on the 14mm as it's just for night sky.

What is the main difference between soft and hard ND filters ! ?

    • @BrendanvanSon
      @BrendanvanSon  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

+Tyson Wright the softness of the gradient between bright and dark. A hard grad is a hard line between the two, a soft is a feathered grad.

I guess you can say that of any large city, paul trunfull, but only if you're talking about pics of landmarks. How many pictures of people pretending to hold the Tower of Piza one needs to see? On the other hand, NYC, for example, is such a huge and ever changing place that it is possible to continue to see originality on NY cityscapes.
