I really miss Magical Express. I agree, I loved telling people about "being in the Disney bubble"from the moment you leave. It was so exciting getting on the bus! We adults loved it as much as the kids!
Regardless of whether Chapek got "shafted" or 'the short end of the stick", he still wasn't right for the job.
We are getting less as resort guests, but the prices continue to rise....and this will continue to happen as long as the parks and resorts stay full. People are willing to pay and go, so Disney will rake in all the money they can.
I think Dimaro might be the real issue with the parks. Lack of theming, all about IP rather than Imagineering, evil virtual queues, early closing of parks, the destruction of fast pass...
VALIDATION! To basically all of my feelings. Best video ever! It's OKAY to talk about the downsides of Disney. It doesn't mean we don't love it; it means we recognize it and want to help change it. Some Disney TH-cam sites are so Stepford, it's nauseating to watch and it's commendable that you're willing to broach these topics even as they directly correlate to your own careers. What Amy said about Big Pine Key is exactly how I feel about the new Poly tower.
At the same time, as we age we will always hearken back to the "golden age". But - is right now a Golden Age for GenZ since they don't know any better? I think that would be a great future topic..perception of Disney's value based on age.
999 Happy Haunts was one of MANY merchandise events that used to take place at both DL and WDW. They were golden. The merch sold at them is still highly sought after!

Ok another comment! We have been DVC since 95. We never use LL because I hate being on my phone. We just go with the flow and do what we can when we can. No more anxiety no more planning the trip like a military campaign. No more fear of missing out. So what if I only do 2 rides. It will be the 2 rides I want to do. What did I win if I do 10 rides? What do I lose if I only do 2. I would love to see Disney adopt the Universal model, but that will never happen. Sad really.
I agree with Panda and Amy re: DVC merchandise. Disney needs to invest in their DVC merchandising department and start getting creative! Additionally, the merchandise should NOT state "DVC Member." No one wants to advertise that, rather when fandoms buy items with branding it is to share love of the IP, place, etc and sparks conversation.
For example, I'd wear a shirt that says "Slinky Dog Dash" and people may approach and say "Oh you loved that ride, too?" Or a shirt that says "Stranger Things" in the front and an image of an iconic scene from the show on the back and people will approach saying, "Love that show, too! What did you think of ...?" BUT you wouldn't wear a shirt that says, "NETFLIX Subscriber since ... " Or just "NETFLIX Subscriber." No one will approach and say, "Awesome - which plan do you have?" LOL.
So Disney make great DVC related merchandise without plastering, "DVC Member" on it, please and thank you.
Derek, I agree with you I am not a Hocus Pocus fan. I don't see the appeal.
I agree. I hate Hocus Pocus. No part of me cares about those stage shoes and costumes focusing on Hocus Pocus.

The luggage handling was great and on the way home Bell Service weighed your luggage so you could take stuff out to make the weight.
If they wanted to build a new park they would. They dont. People have been complaining about the crownd levels for years and Disneys answer to that has been to raise ticket prices.

You are absolutely right about DVC becoming less exclusive which is great for Disney but not so great for members. The high value perks that have DVC gone away (such as valet parking) are probably a direct result of the success and growth of the membership. Although Magical Express is a big loss, I was stunned when it was introduced as a free perk for Disney guests and amazed that it lasted to so long.

D'Amaro.... just repainting the Titanic..... have the things you complain about in the park improved in his two years as head as parks? Lack of maintenance, ever increasing prices, , ever increasing complexity of just planning a trip/park experience. I still hear plenty of complaints from a lot of influencers including the Dis Unlimited and DVC Fan...
I have always said that this Company really only runs well when it has two people at the helm, one creative and one fiscal. You must have a balance….
Media people are the ones killing the Disney brand. Parks people get the fans. The media people are always missing the fans; look at the Star Wars issues😵💫
Last week, my husband and I were talking about the baggage check area at the Riviera. We think they need to widen the staircase, it’s too small, and make an area at the bottom for a larger Christmas tree, similar to what they do at Grand Destino Tower. Then put in a sundries/wine/grocery shop. That’s a pretty big area and we assume there must be additional square footage where they stored the luggage. That would free up space in La Boutique for additional merchandise, which is currently lacking.
Also, Derek is correct. Hocus Pocus is not a great movie.
I also don’t understand the fascination with Hocus Pocus.
I also agree about wanting more member merch.
If the beach at Poly is available to anyone, then TOTWL should be available as a lounge with a que.
Spot on about Hocus Pocus too. Watched it once with my daughter when she was about 10. We were both traumatised!
We are all part of the problem, because we keep buying the product regardless of price, and Disney keeps making a profit. Until Disney starts losing money, they have no incentive to give us freebies. EDIT: Hocus Pocus could be the most overrated movie of all time!

I completely agree with Derek regarding Hocus Pocus. I don’t understand the love people have for it.
unpopular opinion. Poly is overrated. lobby has changed. Ohana wasn't good. meatballs from Cap Cooks weren't that great. checkin took forever when the cm tried to add a 2nd person (I told her not going to a park so don't need to) then a room wasn't ready shortly b4 4. she looked for another room but had trouble switching it. the room view was not great. cuisanart in room. there used to be a walkway to SOG. the luau is gone. the tower ruins views. there used to be a wyland gallery store. dole whip and beach are pluses. I don't want to buy there.
Walking: Either don't allow more than 3 date changes to a reservation and/or have a charge for every date modification after 3 date changes to a given reservation. Likely would slow the walkers. There are legitimate reasons why people need to modify but... And I'm with Paul - can't blame people for walking if it's allowed. Can't beat em, join em. That said we've never had to walk before and always get what we want at 11 months at the three resorts (Riviera, VGC, VDH) we own at in a variety of room categories. Mind you we're not trying for AKL value or club level which are the crazy extreme examples for DVC. Fun show/discussion.
Thank you Jeff.... I have been preaching this about no 5th gate!! Add to what you have (NO MK). If we didn't own DVC, we would not be on property. However, they have too many properties-- it's no longer exclusive.
Can someone explain to me why split stays are no longer considered one stay? We used to be able to book restaurants for our entire stay, even if we changed rooms and/or resorts.
Also, I would buy so much more merch if there was still package delivery.

Jeff - I think you were referring to Club Villain. It’s been many years, a group of Disney brides recreated something similar through Disney catering events. Maybe dvc fan should do their own big event!
When was this video recorded. Was there this past weekend and the parks were overcrowded. We waited 20-30 mins at a few food booths at Epcot just to feel the food was not the usual quality and just being handed out as fast as possible depleting the quality for quantity.
He was dealt a bad hand, he was in a bad situation, he wasn't a good fit, and the people around him didn't try to help, it was not good all around
I think hocus Pocus may be an age thing because some of you didn’t grow up with it like we did! Also, if you all come to Boston I’ll be the best DVC host!
Let's not forget we were all in favor of giving CMs a raise like when the bus drivers got a raise, the dues went up that year where AK dues went higher than RR and I thought that the skyliner caused less busses at RR so the bus driver raise wasn't as big a budget hit.
The article really had me step back. This past week, I went down a rabbit hole. It's broken my heart. Disney is ugly! although we love the parks and enjoy DVC it's really push me to not buy more points. Praying that in these next few months light will be shed, and hopefully, a retract will be set in place... inside out 2 is proof we the people just want an escape.
Lots of good discussion - I agree Disney has gotten too complicated, but I actually like Virtual Queue! Tron is a 120 min wait today! :) Virtual queue may be a little harder to use, but I'd rather have that and wait ~30 minutes in the queue (I know sometimes Tron was more than 30 minutes with the VQ, but if Disney could keep it to ~30 mins) than wait 120 minutes in the heat for a ride that lasts less than a minute.
Chapek may have gotten a bad wrap - but he had terrible ideas on both the studios side (removing budget control from creatives) and the parks side (cutting costs everywhere, look at how terrible the 50th anniversary was). Ignoring public persona, he didn't make a lot of good choices and I don't think he had the experience to run a company. Maybe he could have gotten better support from Iger, but he would have made a better COO than a CEO. Disney hopefully will recreate the Eisner / Wells magic with a creative CEO and a finance COO.
I do miss Magical Express with the luggage delivery, it was so nice. Checking in this week to BWV, I left my luggage with bell services (room wasn't ready) and then realized I needed to be in the room to have my luggage delivered when the room was ready. It didn't take long, but I have had times where it took an hour and I had to wait around in the room for them. I wish Disney did a simple version of this where when you leave your luggage with bell services, they automatically deliver it to your room when your room becomes ready. Allow for digital tipping through the app or something. It would probably avoid bell services from being slammed when people come back from the parks at the same time and need their luggage.
Derek: if there's an opposite to being canceled, that should happen to you. Panda: You're right, but Rivera has better merch than most of the resorts.
Would it really cost Disney that much to bring back magical express? I have stayed off property many times since they got rid of it. I used to stay on property every time
In my opinion, it seems Disney doesn't value our DVC membership as much as the members do. It used to feel different. We've been members since 2006. We used to get "Welcome Home" greetings. Something pretty insignificant, but we miss it. Now, it seems Disney only cares about getting your money. Once they have it they don't seem interested in continuing the "magic". As much as I hate to admit it; it feels more and more like what it actually is.... a timeshare. I've always known that but used to be able to push that out of my thinking. It's getting increasingly harder to do.
Why not compromise? Perhaps 1 modification per reservation??
Bob Iger bragged about being able to incrementally increase prices in his book, published in 2019.
Last couple trips HS has been extremely busy park and I think the reason is Universal vacationers do a 1-day pass at HS while spending the majority of their vacation at Universal parks. Also agree with Derek on overuse of phones. It definitely changes the vacation especially with kids. EPCOT is more enjoyable with the festivals as the food does keep you off your phone.
Great show! I think that the paid LLs came from Iger’s OG days. Club level stays were eligible for 3 additional FP+’s (for a fee) as early as 2017 I believe. Chapek was just unfortunately the wrong man, at the wrong time. We 100% need a 5th gate.
I understand it’s hard for TOTWL to make money, but there is lots they can do fix it. Wicked wind down is a waste of money. We liked the drinks before the re theme better. Food options are poor at best. I understand there is no kitchen there, but it isn’t hard to do better than what they have. For some reason that blows my mind. Disney restaurants will have several fan favorites dishes, then Disney changes the menu completely. I understand that you need change, but there are a lot of people, DVC and others who return and want that great meal they had last year and it’s gone. They then get a so so meal and don’t return to that restaurant.
So glad to hear someone else doesn’t like Hocus Pocus 😂
Instead of walking just buy a favorite week. Speaking of the first week of December, I bought that week in a a standard deluxe studio at Riviera for that exact reason.
LOL, I have to disagree on the "you never have to walk OKW" comment. You often have to do it if you want one of the 2 GVs in the "near hospitality house" category. That's probably the only situation but it's a reality if looking for specific dates.

Thank you. I agree. DVC Old Key West 1997. We went two or three times a year. Now it's one. 💰 Too expensive. Buying a Park Pass was the way to go. Now its LL etc. A family of four is too expensive. Everything is more difficult most places. Shouldn't be at the most Magical place on earth. 😔 ❤😊 42:54

Shut down people and or their companies buying a business number of points and then selling and or renting the points. It’s against the rules but I see it done all the time which makes it almost impossible for the true DVC member to book something without having to waitlist. I’m against walking also.

Why should DVC go to moderate resorts? Isn't part of being DVC that you stay at the nicer resorts? Also, if there were DVC moderate hotels, more people would be able to afford and then make the parks more crowded, no?
They already banned this outside of DVC. To change a reservation you have to cancel and hope you can get another with the dates you want.

Hocus Pocus is overrated for ppl around 50-55 yrs old! When it came out there were much better Halloween shows available!
Amy is so right when it comes to new folks going to WDW. Trying to explain all the rules and how to use Fast Pass is very confusing for them. I end up just sending then various TH-cam videos that go into detail of how to use the system. It's research that they need to do and invest time to do so.

Honestly I get tired of hearing people whining about there not being all the old DVC member perks. The benefit of DVC is the whole thing of paying for future stays at today prices. While I would absolutely love more perks, anything beyond the lodging portion is a bonus.

Unpopular opinion: Magical Express was extremely overrated. After spending all day in an airport and on a plane, I just can't get on board with standing in line and waiting some more for a bus that is slow and has multiple stops all over the resort. Add in the return trip, requiring you to be ready potentially hours earlier than you would if you simply rented an Uber or Lyft... I'll gladly pay a little bit for the Uber instead, wait just five minutes and get direct service to MY resort. I agree that DVC members/resort stays should have more benefits, but Magical Express wasn't it.
The best thing about the former Magical Express was the price. Free. Now that it isn't free, Uber or Lyft is the way to go if your party can fit in one vehicle.
