In my opinion Desi means a person who sticks to his roots, as in culture, language, etc. Back in the days everyone used to vibe on western raps, music in India but most of us didn't understand it.. and then Yo Yo Honey Singh shows up, gave us the same hip hop beats to vibe to but kept that "desi"ness with him, and suddenly we could relate and thus he made a spot in our hearts. That's why he's a Desi Kalakaar :)

And he also won the Best Asian Rapper Award back then. If he hadn’t gotten sick and been out for 6-7 years, he would’ve been the number one artist in the world, or at least the top 10 artists in the world for sure.

There's some cultural differences, back in the days, arrange marriages were more prevelant and parents decided whom their child marries to keep the name of their family's stature etc. Her dad didn't like Honey Singh and thought of him as just some punk.
