This is actually truly touching! 🥺💜 You seem really passionate about it, so I’ll give you a bit of perspective from a k-pop fan rookie, who is a musician herself :) I have known about BTS for a few years already (Dynamite had immense success worldwide, and the song is a banger), and my younger sister has been a fan for a long time. I would say, that it was only very recently this autumn when I REALLY delved into k-pop because I tumbled across Stray Kids through a TH-cam video (Felix accidentally snatched my soul). Among many of the new groups, it’s impossible to NOT also come across BTS at some point. Personally, I feel quite drawn to them because of their more mature age. I’m in my mid-twenties and so many of today’s groups’ members are born later than 2000. BTS’ music seems very considerate, yet creative and diverse. Like with Stray Kids, I admire that they write/produce a lot of their music themselves. It gives them a sense of personality that so many other groups are lacking. The precise moment that was the final nail in the coffin to turn me into an Army was when I watched the RM, Suga and J-Hope perform at the Busan Concert. I felt Ugh in every cell of my body, and it’s now my favourite k-pop song, period. Although, is that even considered k-pop?! I was simply blown away. Korean rap is still SO different for my ears, but I LOVE IT! I’m not even a frequent pop listener, so Hiphop, RnB and such will be more up my alley, but - as I was completely unaware of - BTS has it all. As someone who is still quite new to this, what fascinates me the most about this industry, is probably the dedication for their fans - I’m European; the music industry works differently in the West as you of course know. It’s just so sweet and the amount of passion is unmatched anywhere else in the world. I’m also a medical student, and I had planed to do a clinical placement in Tokyo next summer. To me, I interpret this MV and this song as Jin's goodbye for now and as an "I love you" letter to ARMY as he is leaving for his military enlistment soon. To me, his mission as an astronaut represents his mission as a male Korean citizen who has to serve in the military. His helmet and suit could symbolize both an astronaut suit and a military suit. It's a formal suit of some sort. At the beginning of the MV, his spaceship is broken so he cannot move around (=being stuck because of the pandemic ? They have said they wanted to have a break after MOTS but because they wanted to cheer ARMYs up during the pandemic, they postponed their initial plans. The ship burning up could be them burning up too?). Jin is quite expressionless at the beginning, as if he was sad, or burned up, or resigned to go and fullfill his mission. The light coming out of the ship looks like a calling to me (military call = he has to go and serve?), so he gets up, puts his astronaut / soldier uniform and go. But he meets the little girl who of course, symbolizes ARMYs. He gives her his helmet to protect her (=bulletproof, protection against prejudice and harm - in a word, BANGTAN). Then, he runs to go and serve. He feels lonely and sad, as symbolized by the lonely astronaut he sees on the street after having been pushed and ignored by strangers (similarly, he feels estranged, sad and alone in the world). Then he arrives at the spaceship.The light is reflected on one of his eye : to me, that's him fulfilling his mission. Because then, he is in the middle of the purple universe (= in the military, though alone and far away from us, he will keep ARMY in his heart because we are is universe). The flashbacks with the little ARMY girl shows happy memories they made together. Though Jin was sad because he had to leave, the little girl made him smile, and they made a lot of memories together (polaroid photos, playing together etc). He taught her to ride a bicycle with an helmet... The most Bangtan's experience ever. They told us so many things : loving ourselves, not being prejudiced... And they really gave us a protective helmet to face life. But then, Jin realised how much the ARMY girl also helped him to cheer up, be happy, be a human with emotions. And he realises that ARMY is home. At the end, the spaceship goes without Jin : his mission is finished, and now he can go home and join what he realised was his home and gave him strenght : ARMYs! This becomes more painful for me each time but I interpreted it as him heeding the call (to serve) but assuring us that he will return (as he chooses to go back instead of leaving in the spaceship). And at the end when the bike bells rings, it's ARMY who has waited and is still there. So powerful and heartbreaking and reassuring and painful all in one 5 minute piece of heaven. Ugh. Such a great interpretation of this song. As you know, I'm not on Twitter to see the theories, but I wrote down a few things that caught my eye upon first listen to this beautiful song. Yes I absolutely believe that the little girl is ARMY...purple helmet and all (but oh I loved the dad Jin vibes!). He put the helmet on her head for protection and taught her to ride the bike on her own....instilling independence in us while he serves? He cheered for her accomplishments (as they always do for ARMY). When she was grabbing his face while he endured it emotionlessly, I felt that could have been a metaphor for sometimes being controlled in his life decisions by the will of ARMY, or the other members, or government decisions (that could be a stretch, but that was my thought). When he was walking down the street and people were bumping into him, had he become invisible?? The artwork with the word HOME and the 8 stars (7 members + ARMY is home to him). When he hitched a ride in the back of the pickup...that felt important....A pickup shows up a lot in their BU content films...but Jin is always the driver....does this symbolize some things being out of his hands now? You asked about other interactions with people in MVs..there are a lot, but their old MV for their rendition of "Beautiful" immediately came to mind....Hobi, Tae, Jimin and JK all shooting their shot with the same girl (as some of them also did in "Boy in Luv" . ) I laughed when you used the word "asshat"...I use that word a lot!! God this is hard. 😭 It’s super tough with Jin as he’s the first to go. Then I remember there are six others. 😫😢😫 The performance he did with Coldplay is even harder than this MV, a friendly warning. 😭 This one is so beautiful, it’s what I imagine heaven sounds like. It’s very quickly become my favorite song that I can play on repeat. This combination between Jin & Coldplay is better than I imagined. It deserves all the love and a 100 Grammys! I'm in mid-video, watching you crying, while I'm bawling my eyes out and had to pause to write it out from myself that I just realised now, that the helmet was with Jin when he landed and protected him, kept him alive, and then he gives the helmet to Us, Army. To protect us from everything that might come while he is not here to protect us himself. Because we will fall with the bike, life is life, and he always said that "wrong things will happen in life, but what matters is that we have to get up and keep going". So being hurt is anticipated, but at least he leaves this song and love declaration here for us to protect our hearts and soul and comfort us when it's hard because it will be hard. While crying my way through the MV and checking other reactors I came across a comment - if you compare the ship at the beginning and at the end you will notice that there is a growth of trees and it is partially buried. The comment was that it takes 7-10 years for trees to grow like that, and not only that but the little girl looks to be around that age. I was an even bigger mess after that.

I didn’t cry they first couple of time I heard/watched MV but when it hits it hits. Lol Jin has such a beautiful childlike personality and voice. It is just so open and pure. When he went live he talked about the writing process (with Coldplay) and the making of the MV. I would say, that it was only very recently this autumn when I REALLY delved into k-pop because I tumbled across Stray Kids through a TH-cam video (Felix accidentally snatched my soul). Among many of the new groups, it’s impossible to NOT also come across BTS at some point. Personally, I feel quite drawn to them because of their more mature age. I’m in my mid-twenties and so many of today’s groups’ members are born later than 2000. BTS’ music seems very considerate, yet creative and diverse. Like with Stray Kids, I admire that they write/produce a lot of their music themselves. It gives them a sense of personality that so many other groups are lacking.
The precise moment that was the final nail in the coffin to turn me into an Army was when I watched the RM, Suga and J-Hope perform at the Busan Concert. I felt Ugh in every cell of my body, and it’s now my favourite k-pop song, period. Although, is that even considered k-pop?! I was simply blown away. Korean rap is still SO different for my ears, but I LOVE IT! I’m not even a frequent pop listener, so Hiphop, RnB and such will be more up my alley, but - as I was completely unaware of - BTS has it all.
As someone who is still quite new to this, what fascinates me the most about this industry, is probably the dedication for their fans - I’m European; the music industry works differently in the West as you of course know. It’s just so sweet and the amount of passion is unmatched anywhere else in the world.
I’m also a medical student, and I had planed to do a clinical placement in Tokyo next summer. Now, I’m seriously considering to move it over to Seoul :)

What a beautiful, insightful and genuine reaction from you - as usual !! To me, I interpret this MV and this song as Jin's goodbye for now and as an "I love you" letter to ARMY as he is leaving for his military enlistment soon. To me, his mission as an astronaut represents his mission as a male Korean citizen who has to serve in the military. His helmet and suit could symbolize both an astronaut suit and a military suit. It's a formal suit of some sort. At the beginning of the MV, his spaceship is broken so he cannot move around (=being stuck because of the pandemic ? They have said they wanted to have a break after MOTS but because they wanted to cheer ARMYs up during the pandemic, they postponed their initial plans. The ship burning up could be them burning up too?). Jin is quite expressionless at the beginning, as if he was sad, or burned up, or resigned to go and fullfill his mission. The light coming out of the ship looks like a calling to me (military call = he has to go and serve?), so he gets up, puts his astronaut / soldier uniform and go. But he meets the little girl who of course, symbolizes ARMYs. He gives her his helmet to protect her (=bulletproof, protection against prejudice and harm - in a word, BANGTAN). Then, he runs to go and serve. He feels lonely and sad, as symbolized by the lonely astronaut he sees on the street after having been pushed and ignored by strangers (similarly, he feels estranged, sad and alone in the world). Then he arrives at the spaceship.The light is reflected on one of his eye : to me, that's him fulfilling his mission. Because then, he is in the middle of the purple universe (= in the military, though alone and far away from us, he will keep ARMY in his heart because we are is universe). The flashbacks with the little ARMY girl shows happy memories they made together. Though Jin was sad because he had to leave, the little girl made him smile, and they made a lot of memories together (polaroid photos, playing together etc). He taught her to ride a bicycle with an helmet... The most Bangtan's experience ever. They told us so many things : loving ourselves, not being prejudiced... And they really gave us a protective helmet to face life. But then, Jin realised how much the ARMY girl also helped him to cheer up, be happy, be a human with emotions. And he realises that ARMY is home. At the end, the spaceship goes without Jin : his mission is finished, and now he can go home and join what he realised was his home and gave him strenght : ARMYs! And of course at the end, the little girl is back to welcome him; and he smiles : ) // THE END

This becomes more painful for me each time but I interpreted it as him heeding the call (to serve) but assuring us that he will return (as he chooses to go back instead of leaving in the spaceship). And at the end when the bike bells rings, it's ARMY who has waited and is still there. So powerful and heartbreaking and reassuring and painful all in one 5 minute piece of heaven. Ugh. Such a great interpretation of this song. As you know, I'm not on Twitter to see the theories, but I wrote down a few things that caught my eye upon first listen to this beautiful song. Yes I absolutely believe that the little girl is ARMY...purple helmet and all (but oh I loved the dad Jin vibes!). He put the helmet on her head for protection and taught her to ride the bike on her own....instilling independence in us while he serves? He cheered for her accomplishments (as they always do for ARMY). When she was grabbing his face while he endured it emotionlessly, I felt that could have been a metaphor for sometimes being controlled in his life decisions by the will of ARMY, or the other members, or government decisions (that could be a stretch, but that was my thought). When he was walking down the street and people were bumping into him, had he become invisible?? The artwork with the word HOME and the 8 stars (7 members + ARMY is home to him). When he hitched a ride in the back of the pickup...that felt important....A pickup shows up a lot in their BU content films...but Jin is always the driver....does this symbolize some things being out of his hands now? You asked about other interactions with people in MVs..there are a lot, but their old MV for their rendition of "Beautiful" immediately came to mind....Hobi, Tae, Jimin and JK all shooting their shot with the same girl (as some of them also did in "Boy in Luv" . ) I laughed when you used the word "asshat"...I use that word a lot!! I'm in mid-video, watching you crying, while I'm bawling my eyes out and had to pause to write it out from myself that I just realised now, that the helmet was with Jin when he landed and protected him, kept him alive, and then he gives the helmet to Us, Army. To protect us from everything that might come while he is not here to protect us himself. Because we will fall with the bike, life is life, and he always said that "wrong things will happen in life, but what matters is that we have to get up and keep going". So being hurt is anticipated, but at least he leaves this song and love declaration here for us to protect our hearts and soul and comfort us when it's hard because it will be hard.

OMG I’am in floods of tears, that he did this for Army, before military. Tbh when you watch back videos of BTS shortly before & after the news dropped. While crying my way through the MV and checking other reactors I came across a comment - if you compare the ship at the beginning and at the end you will notice that there is a growth of trees and it is partially buried. The comment was that it takes 7-10 years for trees to grow like that, and not only that but the little girl looks to be around that age. I was an even bigger mess after that.

Their are so many beautiful symbolism. It is beautiful! I actually had a delayed reaction. I didn’t cry they first couple of time I heard/watched MV but when it hits it hits. Lol
Jin has such a beautiful childlike personality and voice. It is just so open and pure. Jin is one of the few members that have made me totally cry just by singing…
Fun fact: Jin wrote the second verse all by himself. When he went live he talked about the writing process (with Coldplay) and the making of the MV. Jin reached out to Chris asking for a song that was about saying good bye, I love you, but I will be back. Anyways like a day before they were going to shoot the MV Jin said he wanted to change the second verse to be more Korean (of course Chris loved the idea) so Jin wrote it but didn’t have anybody to read it to ask what they felt about it because of how late in the game it was. So he asked Chris what he felt about it and Chris said it was good…anyways I love Chris is showing the members to have more confidence in themselves (especially when it comes to writing, etc.)
The live performance is beautiful with Coldplay. If you watch it I highly recommend watching one when Chris gives his little speech before Jin comes in and starts singing….
The last words Jin wanted to say to us before left was “I Love You”. (In Astronaut these where the last words Jin sang)
